This was a great little place to get away. The beach is across the street, the owner was very responsive and everything was on point. Definitely would recommend this place to stay if you are in the area.

The house is a good location for a low key beach vacation. The house is old and creeks with every step but does the trick if looking just for a place to sleep. The door to the master bedroom doesn’t close because the bed is in the way. The door to the bathroom and second bedroom open when someone walks past in the house.
It was nice to be within walking distance of the gorgeous span of Atlantic ocean beach. The house was in a great location. Beds were grsar, we all slept well. The bathroom was kind of gross and outdated (esp the shower), furniture appeared to be curb finds. For the nightly price i expected a bit nicer accomodations. Overall though host was fantastic, location was great, too. We were there for just a night stopover before flying out the next morning
Your typical beach house for the area. Tyler is an Amazing host who is very easy to get a hold of and will go above & beyond to make sure your trip is a best as it can be! Only down fall for the teenagers was the smoothie place is closed til next year
This cottage is pretty basic. It worked for what we needed. Clean. Could really use better mattresses.
Great location.

Our stay was very nice. Had great weather. The place was very clean. Outdated but charming. The rugs were a little rough but with it being the end of a busy summer that is to be expected. Location to the beach was great. Other than really no place you could walk to get a bite to eat it was Excellent. (There was a recent fire that took out both eateries).

Dr Frankenstein must have remodeled this place
This place provided the bare minimum. The electric baseboard heaters barely worked; doors did not close properly, unfinished painting of walls and shelving, furniture was ratty, carpet was old and worn, the shower stall was so small and narrow for even a medium sized man.

Hi Neal - I apologize you didn't enjoy your stay. I would like to point out to other guests though, that the heaters do work (maybe you didn't turn them up all the way?), the doors do close...(no idea why you couldn't close them), the entire house was painted last spring...all of the walls were painted and finished...theres only shelving in the bathroom which also was painted. Old beach houses built in the 70's had small showers (and theres a photo of it on the listing...you knew the size of the shower when you booked).
Had a party of 8. Listing states sleeps 8. It shows beds for 5. Listing showed 2 sofas and a recliner in the living room. We assumed that the sofas were futons. Upon arrival we saw that neither sofa was a futon. So we had to have 5 in beds, 2 on couches, and one in a recliner. Listing should more specifically address how 8 can be accommodated. Very disappointed. Specifically as I had to answer for it to my friends.

Hi St!
Thank you for booking! We apologize for any misunderstanding with the sleeping arrangements. VRBO makes you list a maximum amount of guests allowed - which is 8. We do clearly state in the listing that to sleep 8, you would have to use the couches and the blow up mattress that is provided in the closet. We do not list the sofas as futons - and you can see photos of the couches. By looking at the photos - you can see, they are not futons.

Abandoned property
If someone had told me the owner of this cabin purchased it in 1965 and had only ever come to check in on it once in the last 60 years, I would entirely believe them. The bedroom ceiling is caving in. The carpets are filthy. The electrical outlets are dangerous and one in the living room is even cracked in half. The bathroom is abysmal and terrifying, which is why you won't see photos of it on the listing. The doors don't close, the couches look like they've been around since the great depression and are hidden beneath dirty slip covers. The windows are covered in algea, lichen, and black mold like some absurd science experiment, and the floors bounce like they're going to split open. I think I was the first one to ever clean the AC filters. In summary, if love waking up every morning feeling like you have black lung, and wish to shower in a dirty dorm style bathroom from the 1940s with a water pressure that could rip your face open, then this is the place for you.

Hi Ian! So sorry that you didn't like staying at the cottage! Not sure where you're talking about for the bedroom ceiling - none of it is "caving in." The cracked outlet was from you breaking it - so thank you for that. We have since fixed it. We clean the filters of the air conditioners ever Sunday (as we are there at least 4 times a week to clean).
Theres 2 photos of the bathroom - very observant of you. (pictures #14 and #15 specifically). It's a pet friendly property - hence the clean cover covers. There is zero black mold on the windows or anywhere in the property.
Most guests rave about the good water pressure as well - you are the first complaint about the good water pressure. Ever.
Odd that you did not complain about anything once during your stay - but then when you couldn't get a refund you chose to lie in a review.

No frills
The pictures are accurate. We came off season for a girls weekend with friends. Cottage is small, shabby. Furniture is clearly from flea market or thrift store, though surprisingly comfortable. Kitchen is well-equipped, except for flatware, which is sparse. Light flickered too much to even use. Weird 70s senior picture display on fridge. (?) Door to queen bed room doesn't close. Outlets are also sparse and are hidden behind furniture, often loose and things won't stay plugged in. Bedroom closets are in fact one closet that opens on either side. No privacy at all. Front porch is about to rot through.
Although the ocean is only about a block away, there is no beach for swimming nearby.
That all said, for the off-season price we paid, we didn't feel cheated and had a good time.

Thank you for staying, Amber! Just to clear things up for this review - there is a beach for swimming nearby, it's right across the street. People swim there all the time - not sure how you missed it. There also is no front porch - so not sure which area you're talking about for the front porch?

Walking distance to beach no need to find or pay for beach parking. House could use some updating. My only complaint is the security camera that is aimed at the back patio area where we spent most of our time.

Misleading pictures and overpriced
Be clear, you are paying for the location of a block from the beach. The house would be overpriced at a quarter of what we paid. A couple caveats - we stayed for 1 night so the cleaning fee wasn’t spread over many nights; we looked at the pictures and description and it seemed bigger. It is small, dated, and needs a full redo.
Someone else may find it’s location great enough to justify the rest. We will not be going back.
Location location location. Beach is right across the street and in this area this charming cottage was a gem to rent. Tyler was attentive to our needs and any questions we had. Property does need some updating as it is showing its age. Just use as a place to sleep we weren't there much as there so much in this area to do. 2 eateries were within walking distance which was awesome! The secret spot serves breakfast and was a great wake-up for our family.
