About this property

A quiet, private retreat along a babbling brook in the Adirondack High Peaks

Owl's Head Cabin is a quiet, private retreat in the Adirondack High Peaks, located halfway between Elizabethtown and Keene Valley. Relax on the deck overlooking the brook, hike nearby trails, or dine at excellent local restaurants. Great for family vacations, couples getaway, or hiking base camp.

Owl's Head Cabin is a family vacation rental house. During summer months, the property is available only for 7 night weeks, Saturday to Saturday. There is a 2 night minimum stay for the rest of the year. The house is set back from the road so is very quiet, private and peaceful in a wooded setting. There is a downstairs bedroom with a queen size bed, and an upstairs loft with one queen bed and one single bed. The cottage sleeps 4 comfortably, with a maximum of 5 people. The full bathroom is downstairs with a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. No meals are provided. There is a screened in porch, furnished in summer and fall, for sitting and sleeping, with a futon double bed/couch and an open deck with a grill, table and chairs.

You will take care of yourselves during your stay. A local caretaker and housekeeper are nearby. The cabin is thoroughly cleaned after every stay, but not during your stay.

Your neighbors are hummingbirds, squirrels, deer, turkey, ravens, beavers and sometimes black bears, coyotes and bobcats.

There is no WiFi internet access, nor cell service on the property. You and your guests will be “unplugged” from the smartphone connected world. The cabin does have a land line telephone with local service. Also, there is cell service 5 minutes away in Elizabethtown.

About the host

Hosted by Marty & Nancy Krebs

Host profile image
Live in Upstate New York with my wife Nancy and our two sons. We love all things ADK: hiking, mountain climbing, camping, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, relaxing by the fire or reading by the babbling brook.

Why they chose this property

We have been visiting the ADK park our entire lives. When we first rented this cottage a few years ago, we fell in love with it. If you are looking for a cozy, quiet, retreat that is a great launch point for high peak hikes, we think you will love this place too.

What makes this property unique

This property is nestled in a private 40 acre plot right in the Giant Wilderness Area. Aside from a peaceful babbling brook out the back door, the Owls Head Lookout and Giant Mountain trailhead is right out the front door.
