Driftwood Cottage is tucked in the small quiet town of Washburn Wisconsin, nested between the Chequamegon National Forest and Lake Superior’s Chequamegon Bay. Just recently renovated using red oak hardwood flooring and whitewashed reclaimed cedar ceilings, this 1,400 square foot, 3 bedroom, 1 ½ bath cozy cottage is full of charm and quirky vintage decor. In the fully stocked kitchen you will find white carrera marble countertops, northwood birch kitchen cabinets, and a beautiful hand built farm table.
Other special highlights include a unique living room pallet wall made from reclaimed hardwoods where you can relax and put your feet up after a long day exploring the great outdoors. Access to Netflix on the flat screen TV is provided for those cozy nights you want to spend inside! Enjoy gathering around the dining room table for supper where afterwards you will find a cupboard stocked with dozens of board games and puzzles.
Our nearly one acre property has a bon-fire ring with adirondack chairs as well as an outdoor patio complete with a comfortable wrought iron dining table and seating for 6. If ATVing is your passion you can access ATV routes and trails directly from our property. Even if it rains, our indoor patio is the perfect space to curl up with a good book and watch the whitetail deer come to feed from our crabapple tree at dusk.
Just a short walk into town, you can enjoy several local eateries offering wood fired pizza, irish scotch eggs, locally caught fish fry, homemade seasonal soups, and fresh baked breads. We even have a local brewery with a tasting room. While in town, enjoy the Washburn walking trail which stretches along 1.34 miles of Lake Superior’s Chequamegon Bay shorelines. Here you will discover 3 sandy beaches where you can look for beach glass and driftwood, or just simply watch the sunrise. This is also a perfect place to fill up your water bottle from the artesian well, put your sea kayak in the water and take in the views of sandstone cliffs. Make sure to stop by our town’s quaint shops including sweets, local art, antiques, books, local pottery, and handmade jewelry just to name a few.
Winter in our area is something you will never forget with plenty of snow packed trails for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. Directly from our property you can access the snowmobile trailhead, just blocks away. Here you can explore over 600 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and forest roads which take you through the Chequamegon National Forest trails as well as the famous Tristate corridor trail system. Don’t forget to try out snowshoeing in our local nature center located just outside of town. When the bay here on Lake Superior freezes over it’s time for ice fishing, hiking the trails, and fat tire cycling to see the ice caves.

Thank you so much for the 10/10 rating. We are glad you found the cottage lovely and relaxing. While our stairs are fully up to building code, they are on the steeper side, and we really appreciate you noting that so future guests can plan ahead. We would be happy to host you again whenever you visit the Washburn area.
This place was amazing, it had everything we needed down to the crock pot and the hosts were very responsive. We would have been just fine having only packed food and clothes with how well stocked this rental was. It was very central to a lot of tourist attractions in the area as well, only about a 20 minute drive to get to the islands. The neighborhood was very quiet and the neighbors were friendly. Lastly the beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms had good privacy for a close knit group of friends. We definitely would rent here again if we ever visit the area!

It is music to our ears to hear that you could just pack your clothes, grab some groceries, and instantly settle into vacation mode! We love providing a seamless, stress-free space where close-knit groups can just focus on enjoying each other's company. You were wonderful guests to host, and we would love to welcome you and your friends back to the Bayfield Peninsula for another effortless getaway anytime.
Everything was well thought out and provided for. We will definitely stay again when visiting the area. There is so much to do without a lot of driving to get places.
Everything was amazing. The decor truly makes you feel that you are away at a Northwoods cabin where the stress melts away. Rooms and beds were all very comfortable, great amenities, had everything you could ever want. Great spaces to eat, meet, play games (which they provide many to play), high speed WiFi, and great areas to lounge and relax. The yard is wonderful and my daughter loves the hammock in back. Great grill setup and everything inside and outside was perfect. So glad we stayed here. Host was very hospitable, great communication, warm and welcoming.
This is an older home in a small town, but while not the Ritz it was perfect for me and my two friends. The shared spaces were plenty large and we each got our own bedroom. The location was also ideal for us, away from the bustle of Bayfield but conveniently near to both Bayfield and Ashland. Very peaceful setting. Several restaurants and a grocery store were within a mile (so walkable if you’re so inclined).

Reading this brings the biggest smile to our faces! When we opened Driftwood Cottage 8 years ago, our biggest hope was to provide a peaceful setting where families could gather, slow down, and just enjoy being together. Knowing that our spaces helped your family connect and relax after your daily adventures around the Bayfield Peninsula is exactly why we love hosting. You were absolute dream guests, and we would love to welcome you all back to Great Lake Getaways anytime.
Had a great weekend stay, the house was very clean and well kept. The owners have done an excellent job fixing it up. The owners do a great job with communication as well. I'd highly recommend staying here.
Great place to stay if you are in the bay area. Everything we needed was there and the location is great if you enjoy small towns and walks down by the lake. Would stay here again and recommend. Very clean and everyone was friendly.

This was an amazing stay. We had ample parking for our truck and trailer for utvs. Accessing trails was easy in/around Washburn. Driftwood Cottage was thoughtfully maintained and provided an amazing home base for exploring. The details and dedication to visitors was evident in the amenities of the house such as charging chords, well stocked kitchen, ample cozy decorations and home design and even the kid focused toys! All the local brochures provided were a nice touch for visitors!! We highly recommend this stay and can not thank the hosts enough for providing us a great family experience.

It is always a thrill for us to hear about our guests unpacking the trailers, hitting the trails, and having the ultimate outdoor adventure. We just adore Driftwood Cottage and all of those same qualities ourselves as a family—especially being able to access and ride those incredible Bayfield County trails. It is so important to us that our guests feel completely cared for from the moment they arrive, so we are overjoyed that our amenities provided such a perfect, well-equipped base for your crew. You were stellar guests to host, and we would love to welcome you back for your next big ride!
We enjoyed the clean kitchen and comfortable living room. Large yard and outdoor firepit was nice. Cottage was as described.

So glad you enjoyed our home. We are fortunate to be able to share it with others. Thank you again for staying. We hope to have you visit us again, here on the Bayfield Peninsula.

We enjoyed the cool decor of the whole house, which included thoughtful touches like beach towels, pamphlets on local attractions, plus art and decor inspired by the area. The multiple sitting areas around the house were inviting and cozy. The kitchen was well stocked which we appreciated. We would definitely stay again!
We are well into our 8th year of hosting at Driftwood Cottage. 11 years ago we purchased this small home "Way Up North" as a way to be closer to our transplanted daughter, son-in-law, and grandbabies. For 2 years we spent both summers, all school breaks, every work vacation, and many long weekends turning this labor of love into our Home Away From Home/Vacation Rental!
Some of our most memorable projects were tearing out shag carpet (thank you to our son-in-law!), replacing all the old drop ceilings with whitewashed reclaimed cedar, building a pallet wall (50th Bday gift..thank you to my husband!), collecting vintage pieces for the breezeway shelves, and combing the Washburn beaches for driftwood with our youngest daughter and turning them into a father fish/daughter fish wall art piece for her father's day gift!
I still can’t believe that so much work could bring so much joy! Please be our guests. We are confident that you will fall in love with Driftwood Cottage’s charm and quirky vintage decor. Ideally located to enjoy all four seasons of Northwoods & lake life during your vacation. Driftwood Cottage in Washburn Wisconsin: Come, Stay, Relax : )
