Exceptionally well equipped clean inviting Cottage a short distance from the bay. Beautiful wooded setting with private pond. All the amenities you could want for a short or long stay. Wouldn't hesitate to stay in this Cottage again. Location is excellent, short drive to bar harbor, to multiple trailheads.
Perfect site for our vacatio in Maine. My wife and i love Maine as our vacation spot, forests, mountains and lobsers what more could you ask for. We felt this cabin one of best spots we stayed in Maine in all of our times here. One small hurricane named Lee made first day wet, everything else was great

Couldn't ask for nicer guests than Pam and Allen! Thoughtful, appreciative, and friendly, they took great care of the cottage during their stay! Loved their indomitable spirit in the face of a hurricane!

Lovely Cottage
My wife, our daughter, and myself enjoyed a wonderful week here in Manset. The cottage is quiet, clean, and exceptional. The pictures do not do the cottage justice, it is even more beautiful in person. The grounds are wonderful and the setting is idealistic. The cottage is in the heart of Acadia National Park, it is a great location. There are many wonderful amenities - we will be back!

Thanks, Jim and Michelle, for your review. We enjoyed having you and will continue to work on improving our pictures. Things are winding down and the beautiful fall colors will soon be gone. Hoping you all will return some day soon.
Jennie & Andy
As a first timer to Acadia, Spruce Cottage was a great place to stay. After busy days of hiking, shopping, eating delicious seafood, the cottage was warm and homey. Having a full kitchen was ideal. Having so much space made for a comfortable stay. Andy was responsive and provided all of the information we needed, plus tips on restaurants and things to do. We loved Southwest Harbor, so nice to get away from it all at the end of the day.

So glad you enjoyed Spruce Cottage, Patti. We really appreciate how well you took care of the place during your stay!
Bucolic cottage on the quieter side of Acadia National Park
We highly recommend this cottage.
It's well located:
- Located on the southwest side of Acadia National Park (which is less busy).
- Close to restaurants and supermarkets
It's restful:
- Very quiet
- Comfy sofas, plenty of books and some board games.
It's great for nature lovers:
- Right next to a pond with ducks.
- We saw deer every day
- We saw a fox nearby
The property manager is very responsive and helpful (they provide lots of useful advice).
The cottage was very clean and well equipped.
Great escape!
My husband, mother-in-law, and 1 year old son stayed at Spruce Cottage in late May. We were blown away by the amenities (well-stocked, clean, comfortable beds, and even complete with a booster seat, toys, and pack and play if we had desired for our son), location (easy access to wonderful Acadia walks, downtown Southwest Harbor, and even better - steps from a calm morning walk by the boatyards), and hospitality (Andy was communicative, easy to reach, and friendly). We would come back in a heartbeat. We would highly recommend to our friends and family!!!
I can’t tell you enough how wonderful this cabin was beautiful quiet peaceful picturesque. Andy and Jennie have thought of absolutely everything to make this a wonderful home away from home. Cozy and tranquil with a duck pond and deer visiting in the morning and a quick walk to beautiful views. That we could bring our dogs was an added bonus I am recommending this to all I know before I even left.
Our family of four was comfortable in the cottage. It was outfitted with everything we needed. The location is near town, but away from the crowds — highly recommend!
Beautiful inside and out. Very clean. Unfortunately my husband is very sensitive to animals and couldn’t sit on couches as there must have been a dog around at some point.
This cozy cottage is a perfect getaway for a Maine adventure. It has everything you need and it’s room enough for four. The quiet location is close to Southwest Harbor yet neatly landscaped to enjoy the ducks, deer and other animals. We will definitely come back again.
Spruce cottage is just what our family needed! It has all the amenities as home including comfortable beds. You are close enough to the action of Bar Harbor but far enough to relax with the ducks!
What a lovely, quaint cottage! This place was so well equipped that we didn’t need to bring any games, etc, for grandkids to play on our one rainy day! Andy Cline was VERY personable and also checked in with us during our stay. We would definitely recommend Spruce cottage to anyone who was planning a Bar Harbor trip.

Great fall trip
very peaceful, like the ducks and deer. This area is even better in the fall with more color and less people. The cottage had everything we needed and then some.

Delightful Cottage
We spent ten wonderful days on MDI and appreciated having a comfortable, quiet, spacious, and well equipped cottage to return to each evening. We have rented many condos, homes, and cottages over the years, and this is one of the nicest.
The cottage is on the "quiet side" of the island and it was nice being away from the congestion of Bar Harbor (there was at least one cruise ship at Bar Harbor every day--three on one day--adding to the congestion). This cottage is away from the noise, congestion, and crowds, but still within a 30 minute drive of anywhere on the island.

Quiet, Cozy Cottage
We loved staying in the cottage which is tucked away. It is in Manset and just a few minutes drive from southwest harbor. The house had a husband pond with ducks which are fun to watch. It was well stocked and had plenty of towels and sheets. The washer and dryer are a plus , especially after hiking or kayaking in Acadia. The bed was extremely comfortable. Even thought it is a cottage, it is very roomy.
Andy came by to introduce himself and if we needed anything. We look forward to visiting again!

Quiet Oasis
All amenities were more than well covered by Spruce Cottage: clean throughout, comfortable king bed, well equipped kitchen, washer & dryer, nice bathroom & towels, porch with table and chairs overlooking a pretty pond, Webber grill, private driveway, lovely landscaping. We loved that there were plenty of windows...and each had a forest, pond, or garden view. The cottage has a true 'cottage' feel because of the warm wood walls, ceilings and floors.
Even though the owner's home is close by, he gives you plenty of privacy and 'space', yet he is available for any questions or suggestions. Andy truly wants each guest to have a great experience. This cottage and other buildings are very special to him and you can sense his joy and pride in sharing it.
It's the location that really spoke to us!! With two dogs, we needed a place that we could walk them. Spruce Cottage is perfect for that! Numerous active, uncrowded, working docks are an easy quiet stroll away. In the other direction is a mile of rural forested road with very little traffic. It's just a 5-minute drive to Seawall picnic area...dogs allowed...and we spent time there every day just relaxing by the ocean watching boats.
Andy kindly provides notebooks and numerous maps and brochures about the area. The house is well stocked with numerous games and books.
The village of Southwest Harbor is everything that Bar Harbor USED to be 40 years ago. ie: SW Harbor is still charming and authentic, far less crowed, and still feels like a working harbor and a community. The shops are wonderful to browse thru, and the bakery is TOO good. Plenty of restaurants to choose from.
If you want to party hardy and be entertained by others and be 'in town' often, this is probably not your kind of place unless you plan to travel to Bar Harbor for that stuff, which is only a 25 min drive away. If you are looking for peace, kindness, relaxation, hiking, walking, beach-going, reading, lobster eating, down-time with your dogs...THIS is the place. It exceeded all expectations for us.

Book this one, now!
My wife and I (and our greyhound) can't say enough great things about Andy and this property. Andy will bend over backwards to make sure you are comfortable and everything goes smoothly. Andy will also give you all the privacy you desire!
As far as the property goes, the pictures don't do this place justice. It's absolutely gorgeous. The cabin has all the bedding, cookware, board games, etc you would need. It's very spacious and well planned out. My wife and I did night photography in the backyard one night, such a perfect spot!
This location is a few minutes drive (or walk) from some great restaurants and views. Concerned about the distance from Bar Harbor? Don't be. The drive is beautiful and there is a lot more to explore on this island than just Bar Harbor.
When we come back to MDI, this is the only place we will stay!
THANK YOU ANDY!

Quiet, Clean and Spacious Cottage on MDI
The Spruce Cottage was a wonderful setting for our family trip to MDI/Acadia. Andy, the owner, was extremely accommodating and responsive. The setting is on a private pond on his property with a nice little waterfall always running in the background to make sitting outside rather enjoyable and relaxing. The cottage is only a short walk to the water where you can take in some spectacular views of Southwest Harbor and the Acadia mountains or go paddleboarding/kayaking amongst all the boats, which I did. Being in Southwest Harbor, the cottage is on MDI but about a 20 - 30 minute drive into the heart of Acadia, which really makes it nice because you're away from all the traffic and congestion. Also, the "quiet side"/west side of MDI has a lot of interesting areas to explore with some of the best hiking trails on the island - all things you might miss if you stay on the other side. The interior is rustic yet clean, comfortable and cozy with all the amenities we needed for our party of 5. I highly recommend staying at the Spruce Cottage. Andy really cares about the comfort of your stay, the location is fantastic, and the cottage is a tremendous value for being on MDI. We'd like to return!

Beautiful Cottage on MDI
Spruce Cottage was a beautiful and serene place for my girlfriend and I to relax and enjoy our first trip to Maine. The cottage had everything we needed and really made us feel like we were home. The surrounding area was beautiful, with a small pond right next door and trees all around with the coast only a few minutes walk away. With Bar Harbor only 25-30 minutes away, this is a great place to come and avoid the crowds but still be able to hit all of the tourist spots on the island as well as spend some time with nature if you so choose. There are some great food choices not too far down the road in Southwest Harbor (i.e. Beals and Gotts Store in Bass Harbor) you can enjoy or you can make the trek to Bar Harbor and enjoy a great night out on the town. Overall, this was a fabulous place to stay and Andy treated us very well and responded promply to our inquiries. I would defintiley recommend this place to anyone.

Perfect location to enjoy the peace and beauty of Acadia National Park
To start: in reviewing the photos there have been some positive changes. There is now a nice flat screen TV in the living room with cable and on demand channels. My son was happy to be able to watch is favorite kid shows. The washer and dryer are now side by side full size machines. It was great to be able to do laundry during our stay.
Now the review: the 4 of us from California (my husband and I, our 5 year old son and my 83 year old mom) spent a glorious week at the quaint spruce cottage. The place was completely well stocked and met all our needs. We cooked most of our meals and had ample pots, pans dishes....everything you need. Everyone agreed that the beds were very comfortable and we all slept great after our daily adventures. The cottage is well stocked with books, games, and puzzles.
The location is perfect; away from the crowds at Bar Harbor but close enough so you can visit or take the Island Explorer bus for free. The stop is less than a 5 minute walk from the cottage. The cottage is also close to Echo Lake beach where we enjoyed swimming and sand castle building. The beach had great changing rooms and lifeguards on duty. We also went canoeing at Long Pond, a short drive from the cottage. We made use of the folding patio chairs and took them to the beach with us.
The grounds of the cottage are lovely with a pond and lovely flowers. We saw deer near the pond and heard frogs at night. My husband used the gas grill to cook many meals. He was happy to find all he needed to BBQ.
We got lots of great ideas from Andy and Jennie's suggestion binder and really enjoyed our nature tour on Island cruises, Lobster at Thurston's, and afternoon tea at Jordan Pond.
A good time was had by all and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the East coast and came away recharged and refreshed. I highly recommend. You would be hard pressed to find a better place.

highly recommended
Even with very poor weather conditions I still had a wonderful time in my quaint, comfy cottage. Everything you could need or want was there for you. The quiet, peaceful setting and comfortable, cozy cottage is all you need and is only complemented by the beautiful Maine coastline and community. Would highly recommend!
About the host
Hosted by Andy Cline
We have been summer residents of this area since the 1960's and 70's and retired here year round in 2010.
Why they chose this property
This cottage was originally built in the 1950's as an extension to the main house, which sits nearby, providing much needed extra bedrooms. In 1998 we renovated and added onto the cottage, turning a small bedroom into a laundry and pantry area and creating a hallway which leads to the generous family living addition with kitchen/dining/living area. The house now has a deck overlooking the backyard duck pond and its own private driveway and entrance off Shore Road.
What makes this property unique
This cozy cottage is located on the quiet, but very scenic Shore Road. Walk out the driveway and turn left for a spectacular 2 mile walk 'around the block.' The walk will take you through 2 working boatyards, past the town dock and ferries to the outer islands, bus stops for the free seasonal island bus service, and two boat rental businesses, all while enjoying spectacular views of the Great Harbor of Mount Desert, Somes Sound, and the mountains of Acadia.
