About this property
Casa Abuelita Summary
Summary:
This is a traditional La Paz home! Over a hundred years old, this songbird-themed home lies in the heart of downtown, and just a short walk from the beach. It is cozily nestled in between some of La Paz’s trendiest shops, cafés, bar and restaurants. Recently renovated and meticulously maintained, Casa Abuelita retains all the detail and charm of the original structure while bringing you 21st century amenities and all the vacation essentials.
The Space:
Casa Abuelita is the darling and favorite a of all the guests who have made this their home away from home. Its decoration and furniture is just exquisite. We’ve paid extensive time, love, and attention to the beautiful bird-themed murals and artwork of Casa Abuelita—a magnificent detail that brings light and beauty to its open spaces.
The colonial architecture of Casa Abuelita is a window into the past of this gorgeous city. Built over 100 years ago, it recently had an exquisite and complete renovation that has preserved the history and beauty of a vintage home while bringing you all the comforts and amenities of the 21st century.
Its interiors as well as its exteriors are beautiful and very comfortable. The original doors, cleaned and waxed, still hang beneath the wooden beams where they have been for decades, but they are now accompanied by a layer of foam insulation and waterproofing that allow for comfortable nights, even in the heat of summer.
Its two master bedrooms are warm and colorful. The side street rooms that once served spaces for Señora Julieta’s typing classes have been remodeled and are now finely designed bathrooms that also act as buffers from the sounds of the street.
Inside the house you will find a pool, bbq grill, sun area, and features an old well, protected by a sturdy steel grate, that still reaches down into the La Paz aquifer.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to all areas of the house beyond the 3 bedrooms. Common areas include living room, kitchen and a full dining room, outdoor living room and pool in the courtyard, and laundry room with a washer and dryer. There are air conditioning units in every room of the house.
We take pride in using non-toxic cleaning supplies, providing a healthier and more natural alternative, while being just as effective to synthetic-based conventional cleaners.
We are making efforts towards water conservation in La Paz. We are adopting water-efficient technologies, growing mostly native vegetation in our decorative gardens, promoting responsible water usage, and building urban rainwater capture basins.
Finally, we provide canvas grocery bags you can use in your trips to the local stores, farmer’s and fish markets.
The Neighborhood:
Casa Abuelita lies in the heart of old La Paz, one block from the Malecón and one block from the Cathedral and the central plaza.
La Paz’s finest restaurants are within a block or two. Within strolling distance, you can find two traditional Mercados where you can buy fresh fish, meats, and vegetables.
The neighborhood is bustling at nighttime, perfect for groups who'd love to explore La Paz after hours. Beloved bars such as La Mezcalería, La Coyota Pizza Bar, and many more are right across the street, so please keep in mind it can be a quite noisy and busy atmosphere on the weekends and holidays.

My name is Monica. I grew up in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, and have lived La Paz for the last six years. During that time, I've grown roots into the community through educational programs and efforts to advance environmental conscience in the form of organic gardens, recycling, and sustainable water-management practices.
