About this property

Sunny bach above secluded swimming beach

Set in native bush our bach is a fabulous place to get together working well for either 2 families (not suitable for under 3's) or couples. Both the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms have a bathroom, one with shower and the other with a bath so you each have your privacy.
The twin room downstairs however is accessed via the queen bedroom so something to bear in mind.
It is drenched in sun with stunning water views over the bay. The north facing deck is sheltered and captures the last of the sunshine making it an ideal spot for outdoor dining. The enclave of glow worms at the end of our driveway is a must see at night.
A private bush track takes you to the secluded beach below which is safe for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding. There is a mooring and 10 foot dingy provided and boat launching is just a 10 minute drive away.
There is a waterski lane in the bay if you wish to ski, biscuit or wakeboard.
The Te Mahia Lodge shop is a short meander down the private road and you can book fishing trips here.
The Queen Charlotte Track offers access to many other bays and there are several shorter walks off the main track. The Te Mahia to Anikiwa section is open to mountain biking year round.
Note: the private drive in to our bach is quite narrow so not suitable for towing in large boats

The place to be!

Amazing property with sea views looking over Te Mahia bay. Communication prior to the trip was fantastic and easy to deal with. The house is nice and spacious with lots of room for friends and family. Will definitely stay here again in the future!

Beautiful and tranquil holiday home

Most beatiful bach, very homey and most beatiful views. Host is pleasant to communicate with. Close to swimming beach which the kids were at everyday. The glow worms experience was amazing kids loved it and brwth taking walks. We found near by boat launch and spent day. There is a resort cafe near by which has the essentials.wpuld recommend this hidden gem.

Sunny well located bach

The house is well equipped, clean and very sunny. It is located for access to boating, and walking or biking on the Queen Charlotte Walkway. Having the use of a boat mooring in the Bay is very handy.

We had a great couple of nights here, the house had everything we needed and plenty of space for 6 people . The views are stunning and the bay is really lovely. Easy walk down steps to a really nice little beach and use of the canoe and dinghy were really appreciated! We also enjoyed the glow worms at night, and the window seat was very popular. The property is pretty much as advertised, and really good value. I would only mention that the downstairs is a bit cave-like and does have a musty smell. The 2nd bunk room is accessed from the double room so OK for kids but we would have felt bad if a couple had had to stay there. The downstairs bathroom only has a bath too. Overall we would stay again and use the downstairs, but it would have been perfect if just using upstairs as that space is much lighter and airier.

Superb bach in a beautiful bay

We came here for some peace and quiet, and this bach was perfect. It's very well equipped with 4 bedrooms, space for 9 people. The open plan living room and kitchen is above the trees facing west, overlooking a sheltered bay. There's a private beach and a kayak and dinghy are provided. Whilst we could have stayed in every day and just enjoyed the peace and quiet, the bach is close to Queen Charlotte Track and we made a walk to Onahau Lookout with epic views across both Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru/Pelorus Sounds. The next day we walked to Mistletoe Bay. Coffee was enjoyed at Te Mahia resort and Mistletoe Bay. There's no wifi at the bach but there's some 4G cellphone signal. Overall we really enjoyed staying here and will definitely come back if the opportunity arises!

Secluded paradise

This was my second stay at this beautiful home, and I loved it just as much as I did five years ago. It is a wonderfully secluded retreat in the fabulous Marlborough Sounds, perched above the turquoise waters of Te Mahia Bay and the sailboats anchored there. The house is very comfortable, and the kitchen is well-supplied with everything needed. Downstairs bedrooms are a little musty when house has been closed up for a while, but upstairs bedrooms get a nice cross breeze, and it is wonderful to wake up to the songs of bellbirds and tuis in the morning. Close access to the Queen Charlotte Track at the Te Mahia Saddle at the top of the hill for great mountain biking and hiking, as well as access to beautiful shorter hikes down to the campground at Mistletoe Bay where kayaks can be rented. It is a long serpentine drive on Kenepuru Road to reach the property, about an hour from the nearest grocery store, so be sure to bring all the food and drink needed for the stay, although it is highly recommended to take at least one day to drive to Havelock (lunch at the Mussel Pot) and on to Blenheim for vineyard tours, wine tasting, and dinner there (Cloudy Bay and Allan Scott wineries have wonderful restaurants in addition to their great wines). Can't wait to come back again!

Hidden Gem

This is a great place to stay! We were very happy. Great size place for the 8 of us, 2 family's of 4. The private beach was a great spot for relaxing 😊 having the dinghie and canoe was such a extra bonus. We would happily stay here again. Melanie is a great host.
