Second stay
This is our second year and we plan to have a third. The hosts are awesome and want to make sure that your stay is perfect. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the shade and soaking up the sun on the dock. We were so happy to see a new kayak so we could explore the harbor area. The towns surrounding Burgess are also lovely and we had dinner in Reedsville on the water. Great location for peace and quiet!

Riverfront cabin...relaxation
The "cabin" is beautiful. Very relaxing sitting on the front deck, looking out across the water, watching fish jump and the bald eagle catch fish while drinking coffee or wine. Kayaks, canoe and paddleboat got a lot of use and the dogs loved swimming every day. We didn't swim due to the jellyfish which didn't seem to bother the dogs but were kinda stingy when I swam. Highly recommend this property if you are looking for a beautiful home, with great views and relaxation!

Great Place for a Chill Week
We were looking for a low key place to relaxed for a week, and this place was perfect. The pictures on the listing doesn't do it justice. It had everything we need from entertainment indoors and outdoors. We brought our own kayaks, but theirs were in really good shape, we probably wouldn't have had we known. The grill was amazing. I have never been to a rental (even a higher end rental) where the grill was that clean. I was surprised by the crabbing. For an inlet, we caught over a bushel of keepers. Bring some fishing gear if you are into it. We caught lots of croakers, red drums, spots, and even a sting ray (unfortunately) off the pier (in August). Fishing on the kayak towards the bay was even better. Besides for the next door neighbor, we didn't see any other boat traffic passing by the property.

Cozy cabin
The property was even nicer than we expected. Main room is a great large area for family to gather. The teens had a great time playing foosball and poker in the basement. We kayaked almost every day and spent a lot of time fishing off the dock and enjoying the screened in porch.

Private, Cozy, lots of outdoor fun!
The setting is wonderful! Very private, woodsy. In mid-October, we had the river to ourselves; beautiful weather. Well-equipped for outdoor fun. Everyone enjoyed the dock, kayaks, canoe... and the paddle boat is perfect for those who might be a little older or “non-sporty”. Table on back deck has great view. Fire pit was awesome, and we were kindly invited to use the firewood on premises. We had so much fun. Indoors, the photos do not do justice to the main room. It is very open and spacious, a delightful place to gather. Wonderful large dining table with beautiful view. Loved putting on the gas fireplace each morning and evening, very cozy. A few points that could be helpful to potential guests: the place has a cozy cabin feel, NOT bright and airy, if that is your thing. Bedrooms small, but nice. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a very high bed. A step is provided on each side of the bed, but not suited for an older person or anyone who gets up at night. In our opinion the place is ideal for 6 guests or less. The extra sleeping area on the basement level might suit kids okay, but likely not adults. The living area around the tv has ample seating/space for 5 or 6 adults, same with fire pit. Kitchen: The stove has only 2 small burners, the griddle is uneven. Next time I would bring an electric skillet, and an electric tea kettle. Cleanliness: generally good, except for oven. Guests are required to take the trash and recyclables to the dump at the end of the stay.... Considering the cleaning fee, we feel that task should be assigned to the cleaners. Overall we had a great time and loved the setting, outdoor activities and the cozy main room. We’re glad we stayed here!

Beautiful location, lots of potential
Crabbing and fishing from the pier was great. The house is poorly maintained. We didn't bother with complaining as others had done, there were just too many things that needed attention. To list just some, trash in both bathroom wastebaskets, loose toilet seat, used kleenex under the upstairs bed, HVAC system that kept the place extremely cold but didn't dehumidify (probably a plugged A-coil & dirty filters), wet-clean laundry in the washing machine, semi-dry laundry in the dryer, door locks that didn't work, lamps that didn't work, first level bedroom hadn't been vacuumed and had staples protruding from an attempted fix of a rug rip directly in the middle of the pathway to the door, bathroom exhaust vents with lots of lint, first level bathroom floor vent covered by a throw run and closed off so that it never ever dried out. Topping it off was the "cleaner" showing up before 9am on exit day. I had the feeling she was out of there shortly after we left. Sad that place with such potential has been so neglected. Hopefully some improvements will be made for future renters.

Peaceful getaway
From the first few minutes after our arrival, we decided that we would be back next year. The house is lovely and there is plenty of space to find a spot to spend some time alone if you wish. We caught fish and crabs which we enjoyed for dinner one night and supplemented with local oysters for a “buck a shuck”. We spent our days using the kayaks and the paddle boats when we weren’t fishing and made s’mores by the fire in the evening. We also made use of the game room most nights before getting a good rest in the comfortable beds. The extra beds outside of the three bedrooms could use a little attention and the Keurig machines need a good cleaning. Neither of these details detracted from our stay. Robert and Therese are great hosts and we look forward to next year.

Nice relaxing get away on the river!
My family and I had a great time staying here. We loved using the kayaks and canoe to get out on the water. Biggest bummer was all the jellyfish! A minor check-in issue was responded to very promptly by the property owner and it was very appreciated.

Quiet Getaway
Where do I start?? Bob and Terri were great to chat with as I was concerned about bringing my mom (wheelchair). They explained all the issues related to accessibility. We decided to deal with the issues since it is NOT handicap accessible and we were desperate for a quiet vacation. Everything was as stated and we had a wonderful time enjoying the kayaks and canoe. We brought our small sailboat and launch it at the Horn Harbor restaurant which is also a great place to dine. We also brought paddle boards. We spend long afternoons on the dock and watched our one year old Labrador swim and jump off the floating dock. We didn’t have any luck crabbing but did find the bait store for the bunker and bait for fishing. We fished from the dock and caught a few spot and croaker. All in all, it was fantastic!

Beautiful, restorative setting
We had a lovely time. The house is set directly on the water, which is easily accessible by kayak and canoe. The property itself was well stocked, and the kids enjoyed the game room. The beds were extremely comfortable, which is not always the case with VRBO properties. There were a few cleanliness issues, for which Robert kindly compensated us.

Great rustic river water sport get away.
Warm rustic very comfortable house beautifully situated on a river close to Chesapeake Bay. With kayaks, canoe, games, nice walks, and good internet connection it's perfect for a family getaway during the time of Covid.

Lovely Home on the Water
We enjoyed our stay very much and the home is very nice with plenty of room for our party of five. Having access to the kayaks was fantastic (there is also a canoe and Paddleboat which we didn't use but was there if we wanted; life jackets also provided), and the river in front of the house was quiet and peaceful for time on the river for our novice kayakers. The dock is also a plus- my son spent a lot of time fishing there and the family stargazing. Firepit was great for spending times outdoors in the evening-plenty of chairs. The large dining table is surrounded by windows so you can look out at water while you eat and there is an outdoor deck with rocking chairs as well as a screened in porch for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. Kitchen has the essentials--lots of plates, cups, small bowls, silverware, and cooking utensils; adequate pots and pans to make a meal although wish there were more large bowls for salads and such. Love the multiple keurigs and coffee pot as we are major coffee drinkers. We were concerned about WiFi access as we had three college students needing connection for online classes- no need! it was great! Consistent and strong internet in the house. Beds were clean and comfortable with linens provided- only thing we would have liked to have is some lighter blankets as the comforters were very heavy and too hot. Basement has a foosball table, bumper pool table, and card table for fun and a desk for those who unfortunately had to work.. TVs in every bedroom and in the living room. Three bathrooms (two full and 1 half) were clean and supplied with hand soap and towels. Surrounding area (Burgess) does not have a lot going on (and if you are concerned about Covid, mask use is pretty spotty in the area with people not wearing them or wearing them under their nose)- we used the local food lion for food which we did feel was taking appropriate precautions and bought some bait at a small shop nearby, but otherwise chose not to spend a lot of time in the local towns/shops because of the lack of mask use. But the house was entertaining enough for us all and we just enjoyed the outdoors, water, and house TVs/games when it rained. Recommend the house for a family get away- it has all you need right there. Only caveat is that it is not handicap accessible- need to be able to climb stairs- fine for folks with normal mobility or even older less fit folks like me but not those with mobility disabilities. Great house at good price!

Beautiful location with great amenities
The house was exactly as described. Nice game room, the kayaks and canoe were great, the house and bedding were clean, and being able to bring our dogs was a plus. I would give it a 5 star review, but there were a lot of items left in the fridge and we needed to clean it out before we could put in our groceries.

Best Time
We had the best time on Horn Harbor. The house was roomy, clean, and had everything you could need for a relaxing, peaceful vacation. We chose this place because we could be active without having to go anywhere with crowds (Covid) and it was the best decision ever! We had made reservations for dinner one night and decided to cancel because we were so content just being at the house and sitting on the dock. We caught plenty of crabs for a feast, fish for ceviche, and spent endless hours just enjoying the kayaks and paddleboat in such a great location. Communication with Robert and Therese was beyond amazing- they were available any time we had a question and were so nice. The kids were never bored even when outside time was over- the game room, 3D movie player, and the smart tvs were plenty to keep them happy- besides the fact that they were wiped after so much water fun. I cannot recommend this house enough- it really was one of our best vacations ever and we are very likely to return! Thank you again for such a memorable week!

High Hopes
The property and location are idyllic. Unfortunately, the service team hired clean the property didn't. Enough said. Robert and Therese were wonderful to work with and very understanding of very unfortunate circumstances they were unaware of until we arrived. Regretfully we could not stay at the property. I know Robert and Therese will do everything they can to rectify the issues we were faced with. The home is exactly as the photos depict. Great space, riverfront access, lovely dock, and yard. Hopefully, we can try again sometime soon!
