We enjoyed our stay very much. The area has a lot to offer… Pike Peak State Park and Effigy Mounds National Monument were must sees.
The house itself was so fun to explore with all the antique furnishings and memorabilia.
The beds were very comfortable. Highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a unique vrbo!
8 of us stayed to celebrate our moms 93rd birthday. Fabulous location for 8 women, no waiting for a shower! Easy walk downtown for shopping and libations. And our amazing host even left two trays of snacks for us to celebrate mom! Spotless, as advertised, highly recommend.
Everyone loved this property! It offered plenty of space and bathrooms, which made our stay so much more comfortable. The location was perfect—just a short walk to downtown, where we enjoyed exploring local shops and restaurants. We also appreciated the cute little notes scattered throughout the house; they added a personal touch that made us feel right at home. The sweet welcome basket was a delightful surprise and made us feel instantly welcomed. We had a fantastic time and will definitely stay here again! Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a cozy, well-located getaway.
This is a beautiful & spacious home! All the bedrooms are large, and the kitchen is very well stocked as compared to other rentals we've used. Joan was very responsive and answered all questions quickly. There was lots to do within the property (outdoor area, games, etc) as well as a short drive away. Perfect home base for family members of all ages.
The property was in excellent shape, and a fun return to days gone by. Everything was in good working condition. We are not able to find a hairdryer, however.
Our main disappointment was that we were under the assumption that we were staying at a bed-and-breakfast where there would be other people staying at the facility as well. The house was way more space than we needed for the two of us.
This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this home. Joan is a wonderful host. There are plenty of rooms and bathrooms for our motorcycle group. The is ample space for cooking, eating and relaxing!
Beautiful home and property! Perfect for the five of us to have our own bedrooms and space. The patio was perfect for a fire and enjoying the beautiful gardens.
Point Ann Place provided a perfect place for our family to get together. There was enough room for everyone to stay in the same place, spending time sharing stories and just being together. Very clean and well stocked for visitors needs.
Joan is an amazing host and quickly answered all communications. We highly recommend Point Ann Place to anyone traveling on the McGregor area
The Point Ann Place website does not do justice to the actual experience one has at this property. In addition to being beautifully furnished with period furniture, historical books and pictures, pictoral documentation of the home's renovation, the home is well-supplied with everything necessary for a relaxing and fun stay. Hostess Joan has thought of something for every age that assures a wonderful memory of the stay. From fresh linens, plush towels, lots of soap, sanitizers, dish and dishwasher soaps, suggestions of things to do, nightlights, coffee filters, a personal note and welcome basket - all the things one might find necessary for a successful stay. The first floor bedroom was accessible and allowed our 92 year old mother to experience the occasion as well. The location was perfect and was within easy walking distance of the downtown and river front. Joan also provided us her phone number with encouragement to contact her if we had any special needs or requests. Our celebration of an early Christmas and five birthdays at Point Ann Place is one that will always be remembered. We hope you'll consider a stay here, too!!
Joan went over and above with this property! We had everything we needed, plenty of space for the 6 couples who stayed and parking was perfect for our motorcycles! We can’t say enough about what a great experience this was! Many memories made!
Wanted a short get together with our brother and sisters. Thankfully this house had handicap accessible rooms to accommodate part of the group. House was very clean, beautiful outdoor spaces as well. Thank you!
This very large historic home was beautifully decorated and furnished, and afforded our group of four friends the luxury of private rooms and baths, cozy sitting areas and a big family room for evening movie watching. all together. Joan even provided a bundle of wood for an evening campfire in the private back yard. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. Little town of MacGregor is walkable from the house. We hiked in nearby Effigy Mounds National Monument and Pikes Peak State Park in hardwood forests climbing to awesome views of the Mississippi River. Learned lots about the Driftless Area at the Driftless Wetland Center in Marquette, IA. Dined in Prairie du Chien, WI (just a couple of miles over the bridge) on several nights. All in all a fabulous four days exploring this corner of Iowa. We'll recommend this house to friends and hope to return again in the fall sometime for the colors.

About the host
Hosted by Joan Burns
Hello and thank you for your interest in Point Ann Place. I am Iowa born and raised and love the beautiful northeast corner of the state. I purchased this property to offer hospitality to families and friends so they can gather together and explore all there is to offer: the Mississippi River, trout streams, hiking, fishing, etc. The previous home owners were outstanding stewards of the property, operating it as The Stauer House Bed and Breakkfast the past 17 years. My goal is to continue their tradition, offering caring and attentive hospitality as a whole house rental.
Why they chose this property
This property offers accommodations for many types of gatherings: families, friends, quilters, outdoor enthusiasts, girls weekends, special occasions, and more.
What makes this property unique
There is an accessible main floor bedroom and bathroom which does not require any stairs from the rear parking, through entrance, and down short hallway to the bedroom.
