About this property
100 YEAR OLD MAPLE TREE GROWING THROUGH FRONT PORCH
Welcome to our family's cottage. Originally purchased by our grandparents, it has been owned by our family for over 50 years. Our home was purchased from a Sears Catalog. Back in the mid-1900's Sears (yes, Sears & Roebuck) sold prefabricated homes from a catalog. Almost every style of home could be purchased and delivered to your site from a factory with all the wood cut to size and ready for easy assembly. Ours has everything you would want in a summer cottage. This is a two story, wood framed home. It comfortably sleeps seven (7) people in three bedrooms plus two sleeping porches all on the second floor. There is a full bathroom and a separate storage room with washer and dryer. The main floor contains a kitchen, breakfast nook and main dining area as well as a living room and full bath. The front porch extends the full width of the house, and is the seating area of choice during the daylight hours as are most porches at Chautauqua.
One bedroom contains a twin bed. There are also two bedrooms each with a double bed and also two sleeping porches (with floor to ceiling screens on two sides) that sleep one person on a twin bed. At the back of the house is located the bathroom with stall shower. Weeks start on Saturday with check in at 1:00 pm thru the following Saturday with check out at 10:00 am. Rental includes: Furnishings, linens, towels and normal kitchen appliances and utensils. Cleaning of the cottage before and after rental period is included.

The cottage is exactly as advertised, rustic but charming and very comfortable and functional.
We thoroughly enjoyed being on the grounds and look forward to returning to the property.

Enjoyed your comments and hope our tree can stay alive for many more years.
When we entered the place, I felt I was going back to a simpler time! An amazing time capsule of good taste!

Lovely comments about our "rustic" family cottage. Our grandparents bought it in the mid-1940's and we have not changed much besides the plumbing, added laundry machines, installed a stall shower, and new mattresses often. The lack of wall insulation precludes the installation of air conditioning and heating the upstairs can be problematic. We therefore want to only rent during late May through mid-September,
Chautauqua in May is fabulous. The cottage is magical. It was chilly weather but there were plenty of blankets. A quintessential Chautauqua experience.
Had a fabulous stay with 5 adults. Plenty of places to sleep and spread out. One shower but with planning no problem, excellent water pressure! Really well equipped kitchen with any essentials you may need. The Institution is gorgeous and an amazing escape from the bustle of daily life! Thanks for sharing your awesome slice of a step back in time!

Thanks for your compliments on the state of our family's cottage. I, too, enjoy my one week/year away from the normal life outside the gates. Hope you will return. Best regards, David
I was officiating my brothers wedding at the HOP and this house was perfect!! We had a close friend watch out 2 dogs during the wedding and she was able to watch the whole ceremony from the top porch. The porch rooms were the highlight of our experience along with the AMAZING shower pressure and the super unique tree in the porch — all our family stopped by and took pictures of it! The host was very nice and friendly and the listing was perfect!
We loved our stay at the “tree cottage!” My husband and I were there to attend a wedding, (at the Hall of Philosophy, right across the street) and we invited some music buddies along to make a long weekend of it. The beds were comfy, the shower was delicious, and everything was very much authentic, old Chautauqua, before everything became so condo-ized. Real wood everywhere, and an ancient tree, given the respect it deserves, by letting it grow right through the porch. We played music on the porch, and cooked together and had a lovely time. Thank you for keeping and sharing such a wonderful place!
I wish we could give 6 stars or higher. We love Chautauqua and this home is the epitome of the area. Comfy, rustic and a perfect place to relax and enjoy ourselves. The view to the Hall of Philosophy is magnificent as is the location. The home is furnished with the charm that is timeless, like everything at CHQ. Wonderful and warm hosts. Thank you
