This spot is excellent value! The property is well maintained has everything a vacationer could want in a beautiful setting! The host communicated well and responded to questions quickly. We would stay here again for sure!
I don’t even know how to express how amazing this property is! Beds were comfortable, everything is immaculate, AC kept it very cold, kitchen has everything you can think of, and the property is gorgeous and peaceful! I was also really grateful for the blow dryer in the bathroom :) We definitely will be back!
We were very happy with this rental. It was very clean, and the kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. The setting was beautiful. The artwork was much more interesting than in other rentals we’ve had. Books and games were available with some interesting books included. The host was very responsive when we had questions. We weren’t bothered by the traffic as we live on a busy road, but some might find the trucks going by at all hours a problem.
Very nice place with everything we needed after our days of seeing the sites. Spotless and comfortable. Lovely back yard area was a great place to relax.
It was a Relaxing stay for my family and so convenient to blackrocks and sugarloaf mountain! I loved having a morning cup of coffee overlooking the pond. We seen a crane, hummingbirds and ducks. Also the star view was amazing.
What a wonderful relaxing place to vacation in Marquette. Our boys loved the pond and the stream and the quiet backyard. We also really appreciated how close we were to town and the black rocks and wonderful dining. The home was clean and had all the amenities needed to be a home away from home. Beds were clean and comfortable too. Thank you so much!
We really enjoyed staying here. It had everything we needed, was well-decorated, clean and comfortable. The property was amazing. Especially the pond and trout stream.
Melissa, the host, communicated well, was kind and gracious, and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great!
We would definitely stay here again.
We loved our stay at this property. It had everything we needed and Melissa went above and beyond with the little touches like spare toiletries, laundry soap and a Smores kit.
The outside grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The house isn’t a far drive from downtown, trails or stores. Definitely recommend!
My wife went to. Northern Michigan University and we came ip to sight see and Golf. What a fantastic location- completely Private on several acres yet close to everything!
The host is a great communicator. We found the house very clean and welcoming. The beds and furniture were comfortable. The back yard was beautiful and relaxing. The only thing I would point out is that you can hear the traffic in front of the house on a busy road if that's something that would bother you.
The location of the house to Marquette and many hiking trails and beaches was great.
This retreat was fabulous. It was clean, beautiful furnishings, tastefully decorated, and a great kitchen with terrific appliances. The hosts were gracious and kind. The first morning I awoke, birds gently cooing to me from the window ledge urging me to get up and get some coffee. As I was preparing my first cup a deer came to window beckoning me to the back yard. I settled into a comfortable chair with my tasty brew and I was startled to bear witness to the Yooper Wildlife Ensemble! This is simply incredible, I thought to myself. But it got even better. A moose was there with his bass, a couple of deer joined in on cello, raccoons showed up with their fiddles, a bear arrived with his cymbals, a rabbit was thumping on the drums. Yet, there was more! Squirrels, chipmunks, possums, and more rabbits joining in a morning dance recital. The music began and the tune was a classic, The Yooper Morning Waltz. As I tapped my foot in time with the music, birds of many feather began singing, the wildlife played, and sang, and danced with animated joy. Soon, the music faded away and my morning guests melted into the forest. Then, I woke from my dream. This seemed so real, I thought. Wait, this is the U.P., where dreams come true!
We really enjoyed our time in Marquette. The adventures hiking to waterfalls, jumping off the black rocks, swimming at lake Independence, climbing Sugarloaf and exploring downtown were just what we needed. Melissa was a great host. She was helpful and responsive when needed, but we didn't need her much because we had no issues. The house and the property were well maintaine and welcoming. The location was perfect for all the things we wanted to do. We loved the stream in the backyard. We spent our time at the house investigating the stream and fishing for trout. (We caught 1 little brook trout, a perfect experience for our young daughter). We hope to come back to Marquette soon and would love to stay here again.
Melissa made it very easy for us and went above and beyond by offering to pick up groceries if we needed. The house was very cute, had everything we needed, and the property was great as well. Firewood is a 1 minute drive away near the store that has “dollar dollar beers y’all”. It was great getting back up to the UP. I miss it dearly. Only complaint is that fall color was so late this year. Thanks Melissa!
This is a great property. There was a beautiful pond with wildflowers around it, a nice fire pit, and outdoor relaxation areas, as well as a creek my boys enjoyed tromping through. A heads up, the hot tub is not a traditional hot tub, but rather a bath tub outside that you can will with hot water.
The house is older, but well maintained and very clean. The location is fantastic. So close to downtown, hiking, the beach, just really great! The only downside to the location is that it is close to a busy road, so there is some traffic noise.
Melissa, the owner, was an excellent host. She's clearly thought through what people will need when staying at her property. She was easy to communicate with and welcoming. We'd love to visit again!
My son and I vacationed in Marquette, for a week, to see my daughter, who is at NMU. Very convenient location, just outside the bustle of the campus and downtown, yet only 10 minutes away from everything. Plenty of space to spread-out for a small family, internet access and TV for streaming (hulu/netflix with your own account) during the cold rainy days or night time to unwind, and the bottom bunk bed being larger than usual (for a bunk) was perfect for my 17 year old son using his laptop and to sprawl out for sleeping. The covered porch was a plus to be able to grill when we had a couple rainy days or even just to sit and have morning coffee. There were also nice mowed paths to walk by the babbling brook, through the woods and around the pond. The only negative was spotty cell calls and texting capabilities.

We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the features we love most about our place.
We find that enabling WiFi calling on one’s cell phone for calls and texting works very well to address cell reception challenges in the area.
Thank you for your feedback.
Melissa's house is a true gem, we stopped here for a few days during our trip along the Big Lakes. It's very well kept, has a huge garden with a pond and a small river. One evening we could even see a deer in the garden! There were all amenities that we could wish for. Coffee, a grill, cooking utensils, a washer and a dryer and much more. Everything was very clean and in excellent condition. The heart of Marquette is only a 10 minute drive.
The house made us feel at home away from home. In our case this was more than important: due to the Crowdstrike grounding, our daughter had major troubles getting aboard her booked flights from Europe to Marquette and we had to do a lot of trouble shooting via phone and web. So Melissa was able, in an uncomplicated and easygoing way, to adjust our stay which was super helpful - thank you very much!
All in all we can only recommend this house to future guests!
We travel to Marquette every year, so we've stayed in numerous spots. This has been our favorite so far, and would definitely check this one first for our next vacation. The location is absolutely perfect for what we like. You're less than 5 minutes away from popular hikes like Sugarloaf, Hogsback, Little Presque beach, and Harlow Lake. Likewise, you're only minutes away from downtown, so you get to be away from the traffic, but still close enough to not feel like you're wasting valuable vacation time with trips into town. Melissa was also a fantastic host, and was extremely communicative. Check in/out was a breeze. If we had a question, it was answered near immediately. Lastly, my wife really appreciated the little things. We've run into issues with other rentals where we'd learn that basic necessities weren't there, or there weren't enough for our entire stay. Not an issue here. There were plenty of trash bags, toilet paper, hand soap, etc ...you'd think this would be standard at rentals, but it isn't. We never ran out of the basics here. Lastly, the smore kit for the kids was a nice and thoughtful touch. We definitely recommend this if you're looking for a cozy spot close to everything.
Nice house for a family of four. Easy to navigate to Marquette and other areas of interest from the house. The host provided quick responses whenever we had a question.
Melissa is a gracious host. Her care is evident all over the property. The back porch and back yard are a peaceful oasis. There are comfortable beds, blanket options, and is in a perfect location for exploring.
I can’t emphasize how wonderful our visit was! This home was perfect for our long weekend getaway to Marquette. Perfectly detailed check-in, fast replies for questions. This home is located in the perfect location to enjoy town and the parks without additional excess driving. Exceptionally clean and comfortable! We look forward to another visit soon!
