About this property

Charming Lake Michigan Getaway w/Private Beach Access and large yard

This home is one of 8 houses in a secluded Lake Michigan bluff neighborhood. A country home where no attention to detail has been spared. It's a perfect getaway from the city or a great meeting place for family and friends! There is a private association beach conveniently located a few houses down (less than 5 min walk).

The main house can sleep up to 12 adults. There is also a 2 bedroom coach house located above the garage that can accommodate an additional 4 adults. This space can be added onto your reservation for an additional $300 per night if additional space is needed. If you do not wish to rent this space, please note that it may be rented out during your stay; however there is a separate entrance and parking from the main house and there are no shared walls. Guests in the coach house do not have access to the patio, yard, or any of the main house amenities. Please let the host know if you are interested in adding the coach house onto your reservation.

Please Note: Our house is located at the top of a bluff. To access the beach will require you to walk down a long set of stairs and may not be ideal for all age groups. We offer a complimentary parking pass to Silver Beach in case this is a more convenient option for your group.

The house offers all the amenities you need to enjoy a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, range, and dishwasher. For the coffee lovers, we have a quaint little coffee bar featuring both a Keurig and full pot coffee maker. There is also a large dining table that can comfortably seat your party. The living room offers plenty of seating and a large flat screen smart tv. Enjoy a relaxing meal on the back patio featuring a full sized Weber gas grill, or cozy up by the outdoor fire table in the evenings.

Walk the singing sands of Lake Michigan beach, watch the ever-changing sunsets, take in 18 holes at the premier Harbor Shores golf course, enjoy sipping the finest local wines at one of the many southwest Michigan wineries, celebrate the spectacular colors of autumn or sip hot cocoa in front of the fireplace on a snowy day. Whatever the season, the experience is always inspiring and delightful.

Take a short drive on scenic highway M-63, hugging the Lake Michigan shoreline, north to South Haven or south to St. Joseph and find good food, live music/theater, unique shops, museums, and art galleries. Each town has its own lighthouse and boat-filled harbors, featuring individual charm and unique attractions -- memories you will cherish forever!

Summer vacation

Home was clean and fit our family perfectly. The outside furniture wasn’t cleaned off very well. The hike to the beach was a beast especially going back up the trail and steps. Despite that obstacle the private beach was worth it.

Beautiful house/ gorgeous beach!

The house is very nice, clean, and the pictures were accurate. We met up with friends and had the most enjoyable relaxed beach trip. The shared private beach that is just a short walk from the house was the best part! Highly recommend!

Exceptional for family beach vacations

With years of family vacations under our belt, the general consensus was that this was the best house we've ever stayed at. Spacious, well stocked and equipped, beautiful decor and the beach was close and beautiful. A note of caution regarding beach access for elderly navigating the path to the beach, Overall, we want to return next year.

Perfect location!

This house is great! Super clean and additional little bedrooms for the kiddos. The location is very private and the walk to the beach is short (though there are a lot of stairs). The coach house is also just as beautiful! Thank you for such a wonderful week!

Perfect location and amenities!

We stayed at this house for our yearly Lake Michigan getaway. We had 7 adults and 6 kids and with the guest house, this was a PERFECT location for us. There was ample room, a huge backyard, and private beach access just a short walk away. We absolutely loved this house and after over 9 years of family vacations, we all agreed this was our best one yet! We will definitely be back!

Sweet Sara's has a huge backyard that the kids loved to play in as well as a great seating area by the fire pit. The inside was large, beautifully designed and decorated. It exceeded all our expectations!

Wedding Weekend

Absolutely a fabulous place to gather and enjoy the beauty of Lake Michigan and peak fall colors. We traveled in for a wedding and rented both the house and coach house. Perfect weekend! The place was immaculate, with wonderful spaces within the house and backyard to gather and enjoy. Close to everything and made our son’s wedding at a nearby venue so memorable to have family staying together.. The host was top-notch , responsive and thought of everything.

This house was perfect for our family! It was well stocked with anything you could need, including coffee, spices, and laundry soap to name a few. The private beach access was only used for sunrises/sunsets. The public beaches were very nice and a short 10 minute drive away. Our family loved the spacious backyard & fire pit. We loved this house!

Lovely Getaway

Patti was an excellent host and her home is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. The house is well laid out and so easily accommodated our 7 person group of extended family members. The outside eating and grilling area was particularly pleasant and the kitchen well stocked with utensils. We spent a great deal of time at the private beach because the water was calm and so there was plenty of sand for us to spread out on. Well worth a visit!

sweet sara's is awesome

We had our first official "family vacation" with my husband and my 1 1/2 year old son. We also had my in-laws with us too. This house was so wonderful and clean and very welcoming. It was very comfortable and the walking distance to the beach was amazing. Our very own private beach. I think we saw one other family out there all week on a daily basis. If we travel to St. Joe's again we will definitely stay at this house!!! Thanks for the accommodations:)

Perfect for our family

I really cannot think of one thing that could have made this place more perfect for our growing family. We had a large gathering place for catching up at meals, enough room for kids to little ones to play, private beach nearby. I was unsure how I felt about the private beach w/ no lifeguard but my daughters in law pointed out the benefits of less stress for keeping an eye on the little ones. The owner was very prompt in her responses and communicated things we needed to now quickly. We had a great time!

Great find for wedding week!

We loved our stay at Sweet Sara's! We were renting the house for the week of our daughter's wedding in St. Joe. The location was great, quiet, beautiful beach area nearby and lovely home. Spacious enough for 6 bridesmaids with 3 makeup/hair dressers to easily get ready before the wedding! Comfortable, beautifully decorated, and the bedrooms were perfect for our group. Children's bedrooms were so cute! The front porch swing was so relaxing! Thank you Patti, for sharing your lovely home!

Beautiful family retreat w every detail!

Our multi generational family found Sweet Sarah’s to be the perfect setting for making memories. The home is clean, well organized and had everything we needed for a long weekend retreat! Compared to other VRBOs we’ve rented, Patti had really paid attention to detail with a kitchen where we could actually cook and bathrooms that had fresh linens! The yard was perfect for the toddler in our group. The beach is a 5-7 minute walk down a lane then 75 steps to a very small beach. Think of the beach as a sunset and wine- sipping spot, not a wakeboard location! Amenities in the area are about 10 minutes down the road at various parks and St. Joe’s. We loved our stay!

Very cute and comfortable lake house!

We really like how spacious the house was, and how close it is to Lake Michigan! The back porch and fire pit were so nice. When we got there the lawn was not mowed so it looked a bit un-kept, but then the next morning the lawn crew was there mowing and it looked much better! While the house was very nice and comfortable, I think that it could be updated a bit to justify the price, as I truthfully felt that it was a little steep--but overall we felt good about it because the quick beach access was awesome and the house was very comfortable :) Thank you!

First word that came to mind for all 8 of us in our family was COMFORTABLE. It just felt like home. Everyone slept well in the comfortable beds and all were amazed at how well the kitchen was STOCKED. The extra seating (which my daughter claimed as her personal stadium seating on the second couch) was great for movies at night. The dining table was large enough for meals and lots of games and laughs. Thanks for supplying the binoculars, the fiepit, the nice grill and the giant yard, which was perfect for evening games of football, frisbee and washers. The walk back from the beach is not for the weary for sure but once you’re down there, you’ll not want to come back up! The beach was wonderful! We even purchased firewood down the road and built a fire a couple of nights. The neighborhood was beautiful and the neighbors were all friendly. We took several walks in the evening and enjoyed coffee on the large porch each morning. We had brunch in Watervaliet at Sidetrack Cafe 2 where all the locals ate. What Friendly owners! We enjoyed other outings such as 18 holes of golf at Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club, visited St Joseph and the lighthouse and of course, enjoyed Silver Beach Pizza, took a Saugatuck Dune Ride, explored the town of Saugatuck, and played Mini golf at Hidden Point in Benton Harbor and so much more! Thank you for a magical week for our family to enjoy!

Lovely Long Weekend

Three families came together to spend a long weekend at this home. We had 7 adults and 5 children and it worked perfectly for us. The bedroom setup allows parents to have their kids in the next room over. Those rooms are a little small but worked fine as we spent most of our time in the spacious living and kitchen area, as well as, the patio and the beach. The stairs down to the beach added some effort but we found it doable as we would set up for the day and go to and from the beach as needed. It was great having the beach to ourselves - we played beach baseball and didn't have to worry about anyone besides the occasional passerby. We took one trip in to South Haven for half a day. It was about a 20 minute drive. The rest of our time was spent at the house. We had a great stay!

Nineteen Years and Counting...

Our first year at Sweet Sara's was in 2004 and we've been coming back ever since (except for the Covid era). This is our sacred space for so many family memories. Kids that were in diapers the first year are now married or graduated from college, etc. Katie was a wonderful, accommodating host for our group. She was communicative and the process was simple enough. The house has always been lovely. The beaches have returned (after a few years with high water). Maple Ave was a familiar, shady, daily walk to the bluff. Just a great time, and bittersweet as we contemplate the future of our gatherings as dynamics change... Thank you so much, Katie!

Family weekend

We had a wedding in the area and booked this home for our group of 9 for the weekend. We liked the beach access and quiet country feel. The house was clean and comfortable. We appreciated the coffee station!
