About this property
Paradise awaits!
Come find your Pura Vida! 3 bed/2bath house with a pool located just outside of Samara between three beaches, Playa Buena Vista, Samara Beach and the secret Izquierda (shhhhh)! Surrounded by gorgeous rainforest flora and fauna. Watch and listen from the handmade rocking chairs on the covered porch. The mornings are full of bird song and howler monkeys!
Newer construction. Gated property. Air conditioning in every room. High speed internet. Smart TV with Netflix and Disney Plus ready to watch. Desk and printer for those who may still need to get some work done.
PERFECT for the family vacation or private getaway. Close to town and all the shops and eateries, but not right in town so you can enjoy the peace of your surroundings.
Being between 3 beaches is quite unique! All in walking distance! Plus a 4th beach, Playa Carrillo is a short drive away (7k)! We often ride our bikes there as well, but some effort is required. The ocean water is so warm and clean! Playa Buena Vista is the closest at 1k. You come to the lagoon first that is easy to walk across in the dry season to get to the waves. Or enjoy the lagoon on its own! Samara Beach is 2k away, and is the picture perfect beach. There are restaurants and surf schools right on the beach. The secret beach, which the locals call Izquierda, is also about 2k away, but you have to hike a trail over a hill to access it. Quite the treat for the more adventurous! Access the trail directly across from Villa Tangerine. Update-Izquierda now requires an admission fee of $5/person. It's worth checking out at least once.
There is a surprising amount of available technology here! Internet and cell signals all over Samara. You can be as accessible as you want to be. Power outages do occur as there are a lot of lightning storms in the rainy season (which are beautiful!), but they seem to take their outages seriously and get power restored quickly!
It is a dirt road to get to the house, so it will get muddy in the rain, but does not require a 4x4. However, if you want to take road trips north to Nosara or south toward Santa Teresa, you should get a 4x4. We often stay without renting a car and use bikes to get everywhere in town and to Playa Carrillo.
Samara has more English speakers, but don't expect that everywhere. Most menus have an English translation. The cashier may rattle off numbers quickly, but will also show you the number on the screen for your purchases (I'm still figuring those numbers out!) Translate apps work well for more complicated conversations. The people are friendly and eager to help!
We don't use currency exchanges on the way in to Costa Rica. We get cash out of the ATMs in local currency. Use an ATM attached to a well known bank. Others sometimes don't actually give you the money. In Samara, we like the one on the same street as the Catholic church next to the hardware store.
Some of our favorite places in town: the little courtyard across from the Catholic church has Sweeties by Celia-a must visit as Celia is as wonderful as her baked goods. Her husband, Phillip, is also a chef and often has a daily special that is equally wonderful. Marea's surf shop in town also has great smoothies and yummy coffee with tasty bagel sandwiches for your morning breakfast! Sheriffs (Dining on the beach! The steak and onions!), Gusto's (more dining on the beach), Locanda and Dolce Vida as well. Roots bakery (yum!), Mana (great pizza), Samara Sushi, BM Burger, Cocos, Limey's and Las Olas! So much good food all around the town! But let me not forget an amazing experience at Colibri, the Argentinian Steakhouse above Playa Carrillo. Not to be missed!
Whether you book with us or not, you should visit this amazing country! We hope you make memories of a lifetime!

About the host

Hi! We're Tony and Renee and we're so excited to share our beautiful house with you!
Tony works in the states in law enforcement and Renee does payroll and billing for her company. We bought our house to retire in. The original plan was to retire in 10 years. We are now trying to find a way to retire sooner!
We have 4 kids ages 20-23, 3 big dogs and 1 cat and are currently living in a very northern part of Montana (Brrrrrr). We're originally from San Diego, CA, so this is quite a change!

Why they chose this property
We first visited Costa Rica on a cruise in 2019. We spent one day and we were hooked!
We knew we wanted to retire here! In searching for a house to buy, we googled "best beaches in Costa Rica. Two on the list were close to each other- Playa Carrillo and Samara Beach. So in 2021 we checked it out and fell in love! Samara is a town like no other. Perfect balance of tourism and community, bustle and privacy. The beaches are amazing! The cafes and restaurants are wonderful!
So until we can live here full time, we wanted to share it's beauty with others!
There is a Soda (local snack shacks) just around the corner that also rents bikes, as well as more Sodas and bike rentals between the house and town. Just look for the signs. Samara has more English speakers, but don't expect that everywhere. Most menus have an English translation. The cashier may rattle off numbers quickly, but will also show you the number on the screen for your purchases (I'm still figuring those numbers out!) Google translate works well for more complicated conversations. The people are friendly and eager to help!
