3 bedroom cabin on the Gulf that accommodates 8 guests & one pet. 3 Kayaks too.
The Flounder Inn is a secluded Gulf-side, waterfront location with beautiful sunset views and a private dock. Charmingly rustic, this family cabin sleeps eight people comfortably. Pine wood floors, cypress walls, and high ceilings welcome visitors to this warm and inviting vacation home. An open plan with plenty of seating with all the necessities including a wood stove (firewood can be purchased locally), rounds out this unique and cozy cabin by the sea. Explore the gulf with our 3 complementary kayaks.
Flounder Inn is located on the far northwestern edge of the island of Cedar Key, Florida, on a private, peaceful lot just 2.5 miles from downtown.
Flounder Inn offers a king size bed in the master bedroom located on the main floor along with a full bath and queen size sleeper sofa. Upstairs are two guest rooms and a half bath. One room has two twin beds and the other has a queen size bed. There is also a large wire pet kennel, and dog bed, bowls and toys for your furry friend. You’ll find Dish Network TV; plenty of games and puzzles and at your front door awaits a world to enjoy. The dock located on a short canal leading to the open Gulf is perfect for kayaking (3 kayaks are available for your use), crabbing, fishing, bird-watching, and cast netting for mullet. At high tide you`ll see and hear mullet jump from the water as the osprey and cranes hunt in the canal. Ocean tides, constantly in motion, are nowhere more obvious than at Flounder Inn. From high tide to low and every stage in between, the scene is always changing. Flounder Inn has a screened porch and an open deck, overlooking the water with a western view of the open Gulf and those colorful sunsets. The cabin itself is like a photo page torn from an old magazine. It`s a family history, a novel written over time. The characters in the story are family members and friends who, over the years, built Flounder Inn with their own hands; bringing materials from their homes in Gainesville working all weekend and then doing it all again the next weekend until completed. Flounder Inn has changed little over the years except for the obvious modern additions of central heat and air, cell-service booster, and a smart TV with Dish network satellite hook-up. Be prepared to use your own data plan, as Flounder Inn has no Wi-Fi. Who knows, you may find your group enjoying a little less `screen time` and a little more `island time`. The maritime environment surrounding Flounder Inn and Cedar Key is a treasure map of things to see, do, and learn. The water, the tides, the mud flats, museums, Indian Mounds, abundant sea life, and sand bars are all waiting for your discovery. With signed releases, there are kayaks available for your use. Launch directly from the dock using the Kaya-arm for stability. Parking at Flounder Inn is adequate, two cars may park under the cabin, and three will fit in the yard. If you are bringing a boat, please understand, there is limited space for boat parking and maneuvering. It is not advisable to bring large boats and trailers, due to the space and configuration of the parking area. BE ADVISED: Parking is on Flounder Inn property only; there is NO overflow parking available. Choose Flounder Inn for your next visit to Cedar Key. Launch your boat at the city marina or at Shell Mound Park and bring it around to the Flounder Inn dock. Be aware the extreme tidal changes mean there will be times you`ll not be able to take your boat out from the dock or bring it into the dock. When the tides are right, Flounder Inn offers easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and all that it has to offer. Bring your bicycles, rent a golf cart, use the kayaks and enjoy fresh seafood, cool drinks, and live music at local restaurants. Close out the day watching the sun set over the Gulf from the open deck of Flounder Inn. We had an amazing time on the property! Host was fantastic! Clean and perfect for our dog. Would definitely come back - but will avoid the negative tides during the winter! Love this side of the island!

Loved the house. It’s quite functional and comfortable. Not fancy but definitely fabulous. Sunsets were great. We saw a lot of birds. The pink spoonbills were out every afternoon. We will surely return.

The house had bats living in the walls. The management company was very responsive, tried to find us alternative accommodations, and refunded us our entire fee. However, they admitted that they knew about the bats and did not disclose that when we booked, and we lost an entire day of our vacation. We ended up finding a bigger, cleaner place without bats at a cheaper rate from a different management company elsewhere on the island.

Dawn,
We deeply apologize for the disruption during your vacation. While we’re glad our team was responsive and able to provide a full refund and assistance with alternative accommodations, we recognize that this situation should have been disclosed in advance and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again. Thank you for your feedback.
Beautiful area; great fishing and kayak right on property
Great comfortable and relaxing property; Great views of nature from inside house or on screened porch and open deck; Location strategic for short and long kayak trips to historical islands

We just stayed at the most charming beachfront property in Cedar Key, and it was a dream come true! From sipping coffee on the porch while watching dolphins play to falling asleep to the soothing sound of waves, every moment was magical. The décor was cozy, the views were breathtaking, and the sunset? Absolutely unforgettable. If you're looking for a slice of coastal heaven, this is the place to be! Can't wait to come back!

Second time staying at the Flounder Inn and I will definitely be back. Its very cozy yet roomy with plenty of privacy and only 5 minutes from downtown. To be honest its bigger than I need but the access to the water is what sold me on it. Now its my number 1 choice for a week of kayak fishing in Cedar Key. See you again this fall.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially fishing off the dock and kayaking. An outside shower would be a great addition to the place. Our bed was a little too soft for our liking but more than adequate for a few nights. Thanks

The house was nice but the bugs were so bad even with bug spray we couldn’t enjoy the porches or the dock.

Hi Ashley. I regret that the no seeums were so bad during your visit. They can be terrible, I know.
There is one thing that will deter them. I live here and use this product all year long. It is called PIC mosquito coils. This is an incense type coil that burns for five house each and they cost about a $1. But no seeums will not come within ten feet of a burning PIC brand coil. Next time you come to Cedar Key ask us for them. We can help.
best wishes,
JD
This camp was well appointed, comfortable, and easy to access. Extra effort had been made to welcome guests. We used the fishing poles and the kayaks. I would suggest adding the need for the no-see-um smoker rings for the porch. Loved Cedar Key!

We have mixed results about our stay and would not recommend anyone book a stay at this property until the issues we experienced are resolved. The property as described is mostly accurate. Rustic home on a canal that is very quiet, away from busy streets, walkable, close to park and trails, and includes observable nature experiences such as osprey. These elements were enjoyable. However, for us the enjoyable experience ended upon realizing the odor we smelled shortly after being in the home was not a stale odor, or dog urine on the couch but from bat urine and guano from bats nesting in the walls as reported from a previous stay. The odor was stronger on humid days and near exterior walls. We opened the windows which helped and spent most of our days out. We did consider requesting another home however decided to stay due to the inconvenience. Due to a family situation we departed early and informed the property management a few days in advance and reported the situation with odor in detail as well. The property manager shared how sorry they were for the unpleasant stay and that they would explore the possibility of bat urine and guano in the walls. Additionally I added that we felt some type of compensation needed to be made such as a credit for another stay as this management company manages multiple homes in the area. Paying full price for a vacation home in this state seemed most inappropriate. We never received any feedback other than we will discuss this.

I was only looking for a place to relax and fish from my kayak for a few days. This place exceeded my expectations. It’s located perfectly and was very cozy and relaxing. I paddled out into the flats every day and caught some amazing redfish, trout, and snook. I hope you have a few days for me this spring because I’m definitely coming back. Ohh by the way. The town is very quaint and laid back with very friendly locals I tried most of the restaurants and they were all great.

Hi Meghan, thanks for your review and I'm so happy you enjoyed that amazing view, it is fantastic! Yes, here in Florida we have palmetto bugs which hangout in the palm trees, they can sometimes find there way into homes. We do our best to keep the little critters out! Hopefully you can come back and see us on the island again!
We enjoyed everything about our stay at Flounder Inn. The house is dated and so is the kitchen equipment but it was so comfortable and cozy who cares! The location is not near town but we liked the privacy. The kids loved fishing off the dock and it made for some great bonding time. We were so happy with our stay!!!

This charming waterfront home was obviously filled with wonderful family memories. We felt very much at home. We didn’t miss WiFi or laundry or dishwasher. Kitchen was well equipped. Great water pressure in shower. Nice tasting water for Florida. We really enjoyed taking the tandem kayak out. My only suggestion to make it even better would be to have some firewood, charcoal briquettes and lighter fluid available. We would definitely stay here again.
