Thanks for staying with us Keri! You were wonderful guests and we would welcome you back any time.
Great area to see the stars and northern lights . Very quiet area not far from hiking and fishing . The area is surrounded with state land and very close to the Sturgeon
river to provide kayaking and canoeing . The cabin provided a great base camp for our bear hunt.
This place was great and spacious. The location is perfect for snowmobilers who are looking to all of the western UP. Plenty of parking on the property and super easy ride in and ride out trail access. Our hosts were extremely friendly, accommodating and excellent communicators. Will be coming back here for sure!
My husband and I (and our two dogs) stayed here while visiting family and exploring the Keweenaw peninsula. It was perfect for us. And the owners left us a carton of fresh eggs which we appreciated immensely. The area was quiet and peaceful. Just as we hoped.

Hi Toni! Thank you for the kind words and so happy you enjoyed your stay!
Kris
We stayed here for two nights. The place is definitely off the beaten path and we liked it. Just be aware that the unpaved road is a little rough this time of year. We met the owner Mike not long after checking in and he was a really nice guy. I might try to come back during deer hunting (bow) season.
We stayed 7 nights and it was absolutely amazing! Mike and Kris are the best property owners that I've ever met! They both are just down to earth and so easy to talk to. Kris let me give their chickens some treats too! I learned a lot about the area and some awesome sight seeing locations nearby from them as well! The cabins were very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. I will definitely rent from them again for my next trip to the UP! I highly recommend this location and property! Michele
We always try to stay somewhere that is economical, quiet and safe in terms of the neighborhood. This location provided all three and we were welcomed with our exuberant labs. Slept with the windows open and enjoyed fresh eggs from Mike's flock. What.more could you expect? We'll be back.
My brother, his wife and I stayed here in September along with their doggos. The cabin was just as it is in the pictures listed. We had everything we needed to make the few meals we ate at there. Great eggs for breakfast!
The owners are great with communication, and when we got there, Mike shared a few suggestions for places to checkout that were in the area. We took him up on those suggestions and enjoyed a few hikes nearby and one easily accessible beautiful view.
This is an AMAZING property! We would absolutely stay here again.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Nice setting but dirty
The cabin is in a nice setting, but was not clean. We seriously had to wash all the dishes, silverware (clean out drawers), stove, refrigerator, floors, under beds, not because we're just fussy. It was bad.
Linens on beds were clean. Owner was very friendly and kind.
The property and owners were great. There was plenty of room and it's easy to get to. We had beautiful weather during our stay which was a bonus. Love that there was WiFi and a Smart TV.
The property owners are kind and easily accessible. It’s a great location, we will definitely stay again.

About the host
Hosted by Michael Bowe
Our family is originally from Minnesota. We fell in love with the U.P. and moved up here permanently in 2021. You can oftentimes find one of us walking around or doing a job on the property. You are welcome to engage with us as little or as much as you like. If you need anything while on property you are welcome to knock on our door or message us through the VRBO app.
Why they chose this property
Silver Mountain Cabins is a working homestead located in the Ottawa National Forest. Our property is a unique retreat away from the traditional city distractions. We offer wifi and smart tv in each cabin, with plenty of outdoor space to engage with nature. There are two rental cabins as well as our home on the property, and there is a shared fire pit, grill and picnic area for guests to utilize. Each cabin has a private fire pit and seating area in addition to the shared spaces. You are welcome to explore the expansive gardens, visit the chickens, or take a hike through our 22 acres of woods to forage for mushrooms or other native vegetation.
What makes this property unique
While we are a bit off the beaten path, there are many activities to participate in year-round. Winter offers some of the best snowmobiling in the country and there is direct access from our road to the UP trail system. There are also great opportunities for snowshoeing and off-trail cross country skiing. Spring is prime time for maple syruping, fishing and rock hounding. As Lake Superiors shorelines melt they leave a new crop of interesting and unique rocks for the rock lovers out there. Summer is full of opportunities for everyone, with berry picking starting early June and going through August. There are excellent hiking, kayaking and canoeing spots for day trips as well as fishing, and opportunities for more adventurous water sports on Lake Superior, a short drive away. A local favorite rock climbing spot at Silver Mountain is right down the road, with beautiful views of the entire area. Fall leads into our amazing fall color runs as well as the kickoff to our Northern Lights season, which is more prevalent in our fall through early spring months. Any time of the year, we have some of the most amazing sky views in the world (we may be biased).
