On the Shenandoah River, Mountain Views... Come and Unplug!
Escape to The River House in the Shenandoah River Valley
Unplug, unwind, and reconnect with nature—and with each other—at The River House, a peaceful riverfront retreat nestled in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah River Valley.
Begin your mornings with a steaming cup of coffee as wildlife drifts along the riverbank and the water flows gently just beyond the porch. The soft rustle of leaves and the distant silhouette of the Massanutten Mountains set the tone for a day of adventure or complete relaxation. With the river literally at your feet, you can wade in for a refreshing swim, float downstream, or simply sit back and watch the water pass by.
Spend lazy afternoons lounging on the porch with a good book, breathing in fresh mountain air, or planning your next hike in the surrounding valley. Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure or quiet moments of stillness, The River House offers the perfect balance of both.
As evening settles in, gather around the firepit to roast marshmallows and enjoy s’mores beneath a sky full of stars. Moonlight dances across the river while the gentle chorus of locusts fills the air—an unforgettable backdrop for laughter, stories, and time well spent with family and friends.
At The River House, every detail has been thoughtfully considered to ensure your stay is comfortable, relaxing, and memorable.
Make yourself at home and experience our little slice of riverfront paradise.

We loved our stay at the river house! It has an amazing view of the river and I cannot overstate how lovely the view from the porch was. Anne was very responsive though we didn’t need anything. The house was very comfortable and has everything you need from kitchen tools to board games. We are already talking about going back!
This was our 3rd visit to The River House. Well equipped and super clean. Host is easy to work with. Water front location with a great view of the river. Recommend you add this to your list to visit.
We absolutely loved our stay. The location was great for visiting the national park. Loved the quietness at the house. We had everything we needed and my kids loved the river. The scenery is stunning. The house was perfect- clean, well stocked, lots of space. Anne is an amazing host. Highly recommend!
This cabin was very private very clean and a stones throw away from the water. We were looking for a place to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and.could not have asked for a better stay. Anne was simply amazing and accommodating. She had everything there and more from spices to laundry detergent, cleaners etc. the view was absolutely amazing. I could not recommend this any higher. We will absolutely return!
A perfect spot for a river get away with our grandsons. The River House is set up for family fun and relaxation. Anne has the house well stocked to cover anything you might have forgotten (spices, plastic wrap :)). The screen porch is a great place for meals and games. Having the river right outside creates a calm and beautiful environment for being together. Could not have asked for more.
We couldn't have asked for a better host. We've rented numerous houses on VRBO, and this owner was by far the most responsive and accommodating. The location was great. Only 20 minutes into town if you needed anything, however you felt very remote. The landscape around the property with awesome views in both direction down the river made the trip one of our favorites so far. You can tell that this host has been renting short term for a while, because she makes sure that everything is perfect for her guests. The beds were comfy, HVAC worked great, and wi-fi was present even though we didn't need it. I highly recommend you booking here if you are looking for a quiet relaxing place to get away.
We were in the area to visit the National Park, and this was a great spot to return to and unwind after spending the day hiking. We loved the quiet spot along the river, the fire pit, the kayaks. A great family vacation spot!
We had a wonderful stay again! The house was clean, comfortable, and peaceful. We watched the water and the birds while cozied up on the porch with tea and books. A lovely little vacation!
Exceeded expectations! The cottage was so nice. You could throw a rock from the deck and it would land in the river. Serene and relaxing. Anne was a great host. We will be back for sure.
We stayed here last year and really enjoyed it, so we decided to come back. We love sitting on the deck and just listening to the birds and water. I think our dog also enjoyed being lazy and sleeping in his bed on the deck. Much needed break from normal every day life. Hope things will be drier and warmer next time so we can enjoy the water.
The River House was the perfect choice for our birthday trip. Although the river was high and grounds a bit soggy from recent rains the weather was gorgeous for our hiking and fishing. We truly appreciated all the local info provided by the host, Very clean, well maintained, comfy beds.5
This cabin has everything we needed, is clean, peaceful, near the river, and communication with the owner was fast and accurate. We definitely come back on fall. I extremely recommend this to anyone needs a relax!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was clean and well stocked. All of the amenities listed were available. The location is amazing! The river and property were awesome. Every meal we were able to eat on the screened in porch and enjoy our time outside.
Location perfect, beautiful. House clean and neat inside outside needs power washing.
Great first exposure to the Shenandoah.

Thank you for your review, Raymond. And, agreed! Believe it or not it the house gets power washed 4 times a year. Mother nature and it's critters on the river win this battle for sure....even though we try. :)
This was our 2nd stay at the River House, our now Anniversary favorite. Awesome place to get away and unwind. Always clean and has everything you need. All you need to bring is food.
The house was perfect for our family. Plenty of room and clean. It was great waking up to the views of the river and mountains. Just a short drive to Luray caverns. The host was very responsive and helpful. Would stay again.
We had a wonderful stay! View of the river is breathtaking. We were outside playing games or enjoying the fire pit the entire time. We will be back! We loved the deck and the screened in porch.

Why they chose this property
We bought this property so we could spend time here and share it too! Our kids are growing up fast and we realized the need to show them more than the suburban environment they live in. Luray has so much to offer: Luray Caverns, hiking, tubing, kayak/canoeing, mountain biking, campfires, Skyline Drive, not to mention all the stars! It's truly a great way to reconnect with your family and yourself.
What makes this property unique
There is not one home on the rental market in Luray that has better river views than we do. Our house is 30 feet from the riverbank. Step out the door and you are there.
