What a great place! Beautiful, secluded, and peaceful. The cabin is cozy and really well-equipped, especially the kitchen. The fire tower provided some of the best sleeping and napping I’ve had in ages, as well as great star-watching, sunrise and sunset views, and general relaxing reading while occasionally taking a break to enjoy the scenery.
Great place, incredible views, all the amenities at the property. The tower is a one off cool structure, staying up there is an experience. Loved the area and the privacy. Heather the host was the best, checked in to see how it was going and left us a fam basket. Totally going back again!
We had a wonderful stay at the retreat, and it was one of the highlights of our vacation road trip around New York. The cabin was the perfect size for our family of three. Our nine year old son wanted to eat every meal at the picnic table in the tower. We loved the opportunity to go swimming and hiking at the host's farm a few minutes up the road. The extras provided by the host were very much appreciated. If we ever have a reason to be in the area again we will definitely book again.
The property was amazing and the views were fantastic. Unfortunately the weather was rainy most of the trip, but we still enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back when the weather is nicer!

April showers the whole time! At least they lead to rainbows. :) Thank you for your booking Madison and I do hope to host you and yours some time again in the future, and fingers crossed for sunnier days soon. Happy Spring!
This is a great getaway spot for close friends or a family with older children who are looking for a peaceful, pastoral experience without giving up the essential comforts. It was charmingly decorated and clean. The views were exceptional.
The property and views were beautiful. We were provided with all cooking, cleaning, and sleeping essentials. The farm fresh eggs were an awesome extra.
A beautiful getway in the mountains. Cozy, clean, with spectacular views. The lookout tower is a fantastic hangout place, and there is nothing better than waking up to the rising sun after sleeping above the treetops. Looking forward to future visits.
Stayed a long weekend with our dogs and two teenagers. The cabin had every amenity you could possibly need. Really enjoyed early mornings sitting on the porch listening to the birds, and the views from the tower were incredible. Perfect peaceful getaway!!
The Slateville Retreat was everything I hoped it would be! The setting and views are unmatched, and the living spaces were spotless and equipped with everything we needed for a peaceful, joyful stay. And our dogs loved it just as much as we did! It was truly hard to leave and I hope to visit again one day.
Cabin was neat and tidy and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The tower is awesome - views breathtaking! The only sounds were of the birds chatting. Property manager made sure we had all we needed. Absolutely recommend a stay here!
The clean, well-maintained tree house and cabin provided a comfortable retreat for my family. The spectacular sunrise and sunset views from the tree house set this place apart. The peaceful surroundings and breathtaking scenery created the perfect setting for us to reconnect and fully appreciate each other in this magical place.
Loved the place. Nice and quiet just like we wanted. The view was great. Within an hour of a lot of things we wanted to do. Host was great. Brought us eggs, firewood and fresh towels. Showed us around their property including a private swimming quarry. Very happy with our stay.
A perfect little cabin on a wonderfully secluded property. The PM is super quick to respond and overall, the stay and experience were exactly what we wanted - 5 stars across the board.
Campfires, nature walks, board games, and coffee on the back porch watching the sunrise - a perfect start to the new year and we left feeling relaxed and lucky to have spent 4 nights here.
What a fantastic property… a half mile driveway winds up to the perfect cabin and one of the coolest places we’ve ever slept… in a tower! Endless views in ever direction, a cool breeze, amazing sunsets, nothing but crickets and birds to sing you to sleep and wake you up in the morning. You’ll never want to leave!
Words can't describe how wonderful our stay was at Slateville Retreat. My husband and I were both wrapped up with work, deadlines and long overdue for a getaway. We found ourselves using words like 'lovely' and 'delightful' to describe the landscape, the cabin & views from the tower. Inside the cabin felt like living inside the creative mind of our child like selves. We had everything we needed to cook meals, grill, make coffee, build a fire and best of all allow our dog to run free . Feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated we are already planning a return trip in the future. Thank you for providing such a lovely retreat ! Well done :)
This retreat was so beautiful it felt unreal. Heather took such great care of us! Could not have asked for a better host. She even provided us farm fresh eggs and vegetables while we were there. The tower makes for the most stunning sunset views and in the evenings we sat around the fire pit and star gazed. Everything was perfect and truly unforgettable.
I spent a weekend here chasing dark skies and photographing the Milky Way, and it was exactly what I had hoped for. The open landscape offered unobstructed views of the night sky During the day, the peaceful, quiet setting was just what I needed to unwind. Even without foliage, the property had a beautiful charm that made the whole place feel like a hidden retreat.Heather, was wonderful—friendly, responsive, and made everything smooth from start to finish. Whether you're a night sky enthusiast or just looking for a quiet escape, this spot is a gem. I’ll definitely be returning.
I've noticed this unusual property last year when we already booked our stay in Vermont. This year we really wanted to give it a try, and it was great! Getaway from it all, very private and quiet, amazing views from porch and - especially - from the tower! Owners are super nice people, we had a minor issue with the heating and they came in in 5 mins and quickly fixed it.
This was a great place to relax and enjoy my family. Beautiful views from both the cabin and the tower, which is just super cool in its own right. Everything you need is right here as the owner has thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable. I loved the linens and cozy blankets. Lots of nearby farms and u-pick to get fresh vegies and fruits. We used the spacious lawn for disc golf and the dogs enjoyed the freedom to run. Thank you, Heather.
This is a lovely property, well-designed and nicely appointed. We found everything to be either as pictured or even nicer in person. Heather was easy to reach and responsive. The property is very private with amazing views, especially from the tower. We had 5G service (T-Mobile) on site and the WiFi worked well in the cabin. Lots of nice and thoughtful touches throughout, like plenty of firewood, nice linens and throw blankets, and comfy outdoor furniture. We would happily return! Thank you, Heather.

About the host
Hosted by Heather Magee
I am a Texan native, was raised in Connecticut, and lived abroad for many years during a long career in the performing arts, I finally settled in the beautiful the hills of Hebron with my husband who owns an excavation company and helped to build the Retreat. Guests are invited to visit our farm's 350 acres with 8 miles of private trails. We currently grow pesticide-free seasonal produce, fresh eggs, spring water, bagged ice, firewood, and participate in several farmers markets through the summer. We own a small herd of Scottish Highlanders, Angus, a few goats, about 100 chickens, and 3 sweet barn kitties. We look forward to meeting you!
Why they chose this property
This retreat was built 10 years ago by my husband and his best friend. It's intended use is in the name! From sunrise to sunset this lovely setting allows one to truly relax and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Our home and Slateville Farm is only minutes away and we know you will enjoy this special spot as much as we have.
