So glad you enjoyed it! We will look forward to you visiting again!
Spending two nights at this charming cabin allowed me to relax and recharge. My kids and I loved building fires in the wood stove, the beautiful view, the classic dvds, and the the bear themed decor.

Thank you Roy. We appreciate you being a great guest and leaving the place in such great shape. We look forward to you visiting the mountains again soon!!! Every season at the cabin has it’s own unique beauty and each season is worth coming to enjoy!!!
We wanted to get in a few days of hiking before a family event in Maryville, and this was perfect. We went to Lookout Rock twice - only 6 minutes away - and several other hiking trails nearby. If you want a mountain retreat, this is the perfect property - isolated and close to nature, but not so far from civilization that you're without basic necessities.

Thank you Nathan. So glad you enjoyed your vacation and the area. We look forward to you returning again soon and getting to have even more awesome adventures!!
Very clean and cozy mountain cabin! We enjoyed hiking on the Abram Falls Trail. In the evening, we grilled out dinner, sat on the back porch with patio lights and made a fire in the fire pit. It was a relaxing Father’s Day weekend.
My husband and I spent a few nights here and everything was perfect. The cabin was incredibly clean and so comfortable. It was obvious that the owners take such good care of the place with great attention to details. The furnishings and decorations really made the cabin extra special. The kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of counter space. Very convenient location near the Foothills Parkway.
It was awesome! A momma bear with 3 cubs came to look around! Too cute! The cabin was perfect for us and our son and daughter in law. I really liked that it was mostly hidden from the road. And everything in the cabin was comfortable and we had everything that we needed. We had an enjoyable week!

Thank you Patricia. Glad you enjoyed your stay and so happy to hear that you were blessed to see the bears. So many people come to the mountains for just that reason and end up leaving disappointed. We appreciate you and your family taking such good care of the place. Looking forward to your next visit!!!! Thank you for choosing us as your vacation destination!! 😉
Regina’s house is in a beautiful location. Sunrises we’re gorgeous and we even got to see the Milky Way late at night. The house has everything you need and a very warm feeling . If you’re traveling in winter be aware that the road up the mountain is narrow (we had a large vehicle) and can be icy in parts. We had a super time.
The cabin was clean and secluded. The only issues we had were the large rule binder that had unnecessary verbage on their previous bad vactioners, or how to properly take trash to the bear proof can outside, etc., and the cameras outside the property that made us feel like we were being watched when we were there. To the point we didn't want to sit on the back porch to enjoy the scenery.

Sorry you didn’t have a perfect vacation! Our goal is to make this place as clean and pleasing as possible but we have certainly learned that you can’t please everyone. The binder is meant to be helpful providing house rules, neighborhood rules area maps and routes and we even went so far as to make a detailed list of everything in the house and where it is located so that our guest will be able to find whatever they need. I believe we also provide many extras that a lot of properties don’t. As for the write ups, instead of a book for people to write in, we keep what they write in the binder so everything is in one place. We are not biased and taking out any of the written reviews so if something was unnecessary, it is because a guest wrote it. . Not quite sure what “Unnecessary verbiage on previous bad vacationers “ means exactly but what is written is what the guests themselves wrote. The majority are good reviews and again, you can’t please everyone. Some people are not from an area that has bears and wouldn’t understand the importance of little things like keeping food and trash put up so as not to attract them. We believe it is important to educate people who have never dealt with bears. The point of the binder is to be as educational as possible for people no matter where they are coming from and what they are use to dealing with. The safety of our guests is important to us. Most people find it very helpful. And as you mentioned in the start of your review, it is secluded, thus the reason for cameras. We have better things to do than sit and watch our guest sit on the back porch. The cameras and security serve two purposes: it allows for protection of our investment during times when no one is there since it is so private and secluded and it helps our guest feel more secure being in an unknown area and secluded. Our description and property information clearly states that there are outside camera’s and security in place. Sorry you felt uneasy about sitting out back as that back porch is one of the greatest attributes of the cabin. I assure you we would not have been watching you. That really would defeat the purpose of describing the place as private. Hope you find your next vacation rental more pleasing. 😊
We had a nice stay and the sightseeing was awesome. There is a lot of beauty in nature in this part of the country.
The cabin was clean and comfortable and the host very hospitable. Thank you.
We experienced very spotty to no internet/cell service at the cabin and some of the surrounding area. For those travelers that rely on them; be prepared. Our cell phones and GPS didn't work consistently or well in the area. Our phones have Verizon, TMobile, and TFW providers.

Thanks Renee. We appreciate you choosing The Mountain Escape! Unfortunately cell and internet service can be sketchy in mountainous areas. We have found that US Cellular seems to have the best coverage in this area, however, even they have areas throughout the mountains that have no access. It’s something we just learn to live with around here. ☹️ We are absolutely in hopes of technology reaching the mountains!!!! The beauty, peace and nature makes it easy to unplug and enjoy the moment. We appreciate you!!
Regina was extremely responsive and helpful with suggestions for this surprise trip for my wife. We've used VRBO and similar services for years so we usually prepare by letting our expectations down a bit from the pictures we see ahead of time. I think this is the first time the property looked better than the pictures. Absolutley immaculate. The pond at the bottom for the hill was perfect to stargaze and the larger lake was great for sunsets. It's about 1/2 an hour from Knoxville airport and a beautiful short ride to the Tail of The Dragon, or Tuckaleechee Caverns. We will definitely be back when we have more time to explore. Thank you Regina for making our trip special!

We look forward to having you return for a longer stay!! Every season has its own special beauty on the mountain!! A winter snowfall there is magical!!! Thank you for choosing The Mountain Escape……
What a great place! We had an early morning visitor, that we heard and never saw mid-week... I wondered if the camera outside caught the visitor... a bear? a Dog? we don't know, just heard it moving. I appreciated the Security system that I could activate at night while sleeping. House is very inviting, and the back deck is wonderful! We never made it to the lake - as dogs are not allowed - so we missed that. Driveway can be fun getting to the house, needless to say I spun gravel - so sorry!! I would highly recommend!

Thank you!! We have done our best to make the cabin a warm inviting place where people can truly escape everyday life and relax and enjoy. Glad it worked well for you in that purpose!! We also want our guest’s to feel secure while being remote so we find the security system very helpful for that. Hope you can come back again soon. Thank you for leaving the place spotless and thanks for help with the laundry!!!! You all are awesome and appreciated!!! 😉
We were actually unable to stay in the house. We couldn't get up the driveway. It's very steep and the gravel is very loose. The bottom of our van was scraping on the gravel trying to get up the driveway. The owner left an note talking about the problem they have with bear's coming frequently to the property and that they would try to get in our vehicle. I can't stay somewhere that I can't get into without tearing up my vehicle and then have to worry about bear's destroying my vehicle. I have small children. I can't worry about them encountering a bear so often. I feel the owner should have disclosed the problem with the driveway as well as the bear's. When I contacted the owner stating that we wouldn't be able to stay there, mainly because of the driveway situation she just said we need to put our van in low gear. It's an automatic it doesn't have low gear. It should have been stated that you need a 4 wheel drive or a stick shift to get up the driveway. I lost a lot of money with not being able to stay there. We had to pay for another place to stay while on vacation due to us not being able to get up the driveway. Very disappointed and feel that if these problems would have been stated in the description of the property we could have made a better decision on if we wanted to stay there or not. I would have looked for something else.

For anyone considering this property, please read with an open mind before making your decision. Thank you.
Edwina,
I am sorry you had a bad experience. Perhaps you rated us a “1” for the same reason I rated you a “1” and that is because N/A is not an option. You can’t really rate someone who didn’t actually stay in the property.
The photos of the property clearly show that the house does sit up above the road. I do my very best not to misrepresent because I would not want that done to me!!!! It is described as sloped at the road and level parking at the cabin which it is. We have had a lot of guests in all sorts of vehicles, low profile sports cars and motorcycles here to ride the dragon, 2-wheel drives, 4- wheel drives, cars, vans, furniture delivery trucks and septic trucks to name a few and have never before had anyone who could not access the driveway. We have had complaints in the past about the grade coming off the road but that has always been people who are from flat land and not use to any grade and those complaints are few. For this mountainous area, the grade is by no means steep in comparison to a lot of properties in this area, after all, it is the mountains. I suggested using low gear to allow a slower steadier access, I have an automatic vehicle also but still have low gears as do most all automatic vehicles. You do not need a 4 wheel drive or stick shift to get up the driveway so no, that is not something I disclosed. I do not have four wheel drive nor a stick and typically access it 3-4 times a week without issue. The heavy rain we had may have cause some washouts that aren’t normally there and for that I would sincerely apologize but some things are out of our control. This doesn’t help you but the driveway is due to be paved the second week of September to prevent any further washouts presenting issues as we expect our guests to have the best experience possible.
As far as bears, there are bears and other common wildlife found in the Great Smoky Mountains in the area because this is their natural habitat and the reason a lot of people visit the Smokies. Our guest who have seen bears have always thought that was the highlight of their trip whether they saw them at or near the cabin or in other areas of the mountains. It is a dream come true for many people. There is absolutely no where in this area that anyone is going to stay that there will not be bears and natural wildlife in the area. As far as a “problem “ with the bears, I do not know what you are referring to because there has never been a problem with the bears and I have absolutely no idea what you are referring to in regards to them getting into cars and tearing them up. Reminders to not leave food in cars or trash on the porches is a common sense thing for people living among this wildlife but leaving reminders for people who are not familiar with mountain wildlife is a measure to protect the guests and the wildlife and not meant to mean you or your children are in danger or that your vehicle is going to be destroyed or that there is a Problem I honestly do not know of anyone at all on the mountain that has had a “problem “ with the bears other than them getting into garbage (which we prevented with a $400 bear resistant trash can) and they occasionally take out a bird feeder if they are left out but as far as any human issues or destruction to property, not aware of any. People on the mountain have respect for the mountain and the wildlife and foliage that were there long before us people were. I do have information in the welcome information for TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency) in the event anyone should ever have need for it because we can’t control wildlife and I would rather someone have the information in the even it was needed. Educating people to the area is being responsible. No different than me going to stay in Florida and needing to be educated on proper steps to take to prevent attracting an alligator attack because that is not something we deal with here in the mountains.
Our cabin has always been well rated and enjoyed by our guests. You have given us first and only “1” we have ever had. Across multiple hosting sites, we are continually ranked “5” in all categories. Occasionally a “4” but seldom ever. Anyone considering this property can check out other ratings. Hundreds of great ratings and one bad one from someone who didn’t actually stay tells the story. I am sorry you didn’t happen to enjoy the same experience that so many others have. Even our guests with children have enjoyed watching the bears pass through as a family. It doesn’t happen everyday but when it does, it is an unforgettable experience.
Again, I am sorry you had an unpleasant experience. It truly is a wonderful, private and peaceful escape and well worth the stay!!!! Bears and all!!!!
The property is very nice, clean and we had our own bear, very cool. The location was further away from Townsend than we're used to, but it worked. We had out 2 dogs, not a lot of area for them to run. Beautiful porch and deck was great. Only problem we had, the WiFi is nonexistent, could not talk on the phone at all, only text, also the TV could not stream anything, even though it showed Netflex, hulu and Prime. DVD's was all we could use, thankfully there were plenty available.
This cabin was completely awesome. Nestled on the Foothills Parkway, we were 25 minutes from Townsend TN. Awesome view up and down the Parkway. Clean and comfortable. Regina was always quick to answer our questions. I hope we can stay here again someday!
If you wanna get away from the tourist traps of pigeon Forge in Gatlinburg then this is the place for you. It’s nice it’s quiet in the woods the mountains a fishing lake.
Great communication with the owners.
Very relaxing.

About the host
Hosted by Regina Garner
We were Blessed to come across this property a few years back and it became our sanctuary. We found such peace and splice here that it was like being on vacation all the time. When life took its changes and we had to leave the mountain for the flat land, we thought the best thing to do would be to share this absolutely serene place with others looking for an escape. The remarks coming in from those who have stayed proves that we made the right decision in sharing our peaceful place. We hope you will be as blessed here as we have been and leave here feeling fully refreshed and ready to get back to life as usual.
Why they chose this property
The Mountain Escape is clean, quiet and peaceful and located just off the scenic Foothills Parkway. Convenient to Maryville, (Airport and Maryville College), Knoxville, Cades Cove and Great Smoky Mountains National Park plus attractions of Pigeon Forge, Sevierville (Dollywood) and Gatlinburg not forgetting The Dragon and Chilhowee Lake. 15-20 minute drive to stores and eateries. Non commercialized area (be prepared on gas and food before tackling the mountain. No deliveries here. Come prepared, especially before winter weather.) Comfortable sofa and overstuffed recliners in living room but there are bean bag chairs in the second bedroom if you want to snuggle in front of wood stove and watch the fire. The INTERNET access can be sketchy. Normally internet works ok but streaming is a real struggle. What we have is the ONLY service we can currently get, it’s part of mountain life! We keep DVD’s here for children and more mature audiences so you don’t have to tolerate streaming issues. And there are plenty of books and games but once you arrive, weather permitting, you will want to spend your time outside! A comfortable front deck and a HUGE rear deck nestles you into the tree tops where you can sit and relax and watch the wildlife. There is a gas fireplace for cooler evenings and a water fountain for the warmer months adding a running water sound sure to relax. It overlooks a small private pond and a larger pond which you have access to and it is walking distance! Remember, you are leaving the city behind. You can expect winding mountain roads but well worth the drive! High winds can cause power outages bringing down trees. Outages make for family bonding time! Roads, internet issues, cell reception issues and power outages come with escaping the hussle and bustle of town. No commercialization, no gas, no food delivery and maybe not getting out for a day or two in winter. But again, it’s all SO WORTH IT! Just be prepared. We will be glad to answer any questions.
What makes this property unique
Holiday Hills Lake is walking distance and has a nice gazebo for chilling out. Just a mile away is Lake In The Sky to which you will have privileges. Great for swimming, floating, Kayaking or just relaxing and watching Eagles (if you are lucky you might see one swoop down to catch a fresh fish dinner!). Fishing is good. There are two poles at the cabin and 5 beach towels for lake use. NO FISHING LICENSE required! This is a private community lake for members and you may use it as our guest. You will be provided a temporary lake access card good for your stay. NO GAS POWERED motors ensuring you clean, pure mountain water! There is also a basketball court at the lake. It is just a great place to hang out. Please be courteous to observe and follow all community rules including Lake posted rules. (See photos, lake rules sign will be found there.) *******SPECIAL NOTE******* The Foothills Parkway will be closed for repaving in 2022-2023 MARCH 14 - MAY 21, 2022 Parkway will be FULLY CLOSED from Look Rock Observation Tower to Highway 129 at Chilhowee Lake. You can access the Parkway off 321 at the Walland intersection and drive toward Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg enjoying those magnificient Parkway views!!
