About this property

Peaceful Shoreline House

This classic Maine summer home is located steps away from a sandy beach in a quiet cove, perfect for swimming and for young children. Grassy meadows surround the house, which has views of the ocean on three sides. The kitchen/dining/living area is comfortable and light. A wood stove can warm the house on cool evenings and in colder months. In the summer, doors open to a two decks, lovely for outdoor lunches or breakfasts. The first-floor corner bedroom has a queen bed and views of the ocean on two sides. The second floor front bedroom has a queen bed and a writing desk and offers views of the ocean. The back bedroom has a double bed and a single bed with views of the meadows. Twenty-five acres of meadow, woods, and pink granite shorefront invite exploring.

A small grocery store is just a five-minute’s walk away. Free wireless service is available at the town library, just ten minutes by car. The wifi in the house works ONLY in the dining room and small study to the left of the entryway and is not reliable for video conferencing or streaming.

The island features rocky and sandy beaches, spectacular hikes, fishing, and swimming in a local quarry. During summer months the town offers frequent “Town Breakfasts,” concerts, and other community events.

A second house located on the property, the Meadow House, may be rented together with the Shoreline House for larger gatherings. Please see the listing for VRBO #287076.

The house is owned by a family who has lived year-round or summered on Swans Island for 40 years.

Why they chose this property

Our family (two adults and four kids) bought this house in 1987 as a summer house. In 1993 our parents moved to Swans Island full time to run the Atlantic Blanket Company. At that time they built the near-by property, VRBO 287076 (Meadow House), out of which they wove their blankets and ran their company. We fell in love with Swans Island because of its spectacular beauty. The four kids, all grown up now with families of our own, continue to vacation on the island.

What makes this property unique

The water is so accessible! There are multiple beaches - rocky and sandy. There are no crowds, very little noise. We also love the near-by quarry pond where we can swim and dive for hours. In late July and August, the island is overflowing with berries! If you want a quiet vacation by the ocean, this is the place.
