Sanctuary in the Woods: Historic Log Cabin on 30 secluded acres with trails
MINIMUM STAY OF FOUR (4) NIGHTS REQUIRED TO BOOK.
The perfect place to retreat from the hustle of modern life. The cabin has stood through 200 years of change but maintains the charm of simpler times. The modern conveniences of indoor plumbing and full electric service including base-board heat, refrigeration and cookware have been added. There is an air-conditioner in the loft. Tables and chairs are located in the kitchen and on the porch to enjoy your meals.
The more adventurous guests can open the windows to enjoy a cross-breeze, read by candle light, cook over the campfire (or charcoal grill) and dine on the large outdoor picnic table. Just bring your favorite food and beverages.
This natural setting is home to a large variety of wildlife. Our guests have seen deer, turkey, pheasant, song birds, birds of prey, fox, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, possum, and more while rocking on the wraparound porch and hiking through the trails on the property. There are bicycles for use on the grass trails, open fields or quiet dirt roads. In addition to bicycles, there are lawn jarts, frisbees, darts, squirt guns and more available for your use on the huge lawn. Firewood, skewers and pie-makers are provided for your bon fire. We also provide a fiber-optic Internet connection, smart television, DVD collection, multiple board games, puzzles, and a few books in case there is inclement weather during your stay.
The White Pine multi-use trail is only 2 miles away. For the hardcore mountain bikers, the Dragon Tail Trail is 7 miles away. You can visit the many local Amish farms & businesses and nearby popular attractions in the Canadian Lakes area.
Due to the secluded nature of this property, there are surveillance cameras monitoring the driveway and door to the cabin. There are also hunting cameras that monitor the food plot fields and utility easement.
We hope you'll come and relax a while. We are confident you will be so glad you visited.

Excellent cabin when you're ready to truly relax. Nothing but peace and quiet. Everything you might need is provided. Host is most excellent and responsive. Perfect spot for reflection.
Had a nice long weekend here- the place was pet welcoming with a leash, dog bowl etc. Yard and wooded paths were great for walking, especially beautiful in October. This is an old cabin that's been nicely updated, with comfortable bedding & furniture, and a well equipped kitchen. Thanks for everything!
This property is beautifully rustic, cozy and very private.
Ideal for nature lovers, hikers, bikers or guests who just like to unplug. It's low key comfortable and has everything we needed to feel comfortable. We enjoyed the provided bikes and the fireplace. The communication with the owners were easy. Thank you for sharing this gorgeous place!
PS: probably not the best choice for guests with problems stairs since the bedroom is in the loft and the stairs are quite steep.

Pia was a wonderful guest; great communication and very tidy. She is definitely a 5-star recommendation.
We have had elderly guests, and they appreciated being able to use the sofa sleeper on the main floor.
Sarah was great to deal with. The whole process was just easy.
Getting to the property, everything was beyond my expectations. Everything you would want was available, from toiletries to firewood. The attention to detail was so appreciated and made the whole experience relaxing. She made a binder available with food recommendations, map of the property and answered any question you could possibly think of down to location of amenities on the property.
The property is beautifully wooded. It's almost like a storybook pulling up. Keep in mind, it's 200 years old! That's amazing! The sounds of wildlife ranging from deer, coyotes and I even heard an elk.
Plenty of firewood on hand. Charcoal and lighter fluid was made available. I feel like they thought of everything. I'd recommend this place and I look forward to getting it again.

The cabin and property allow us to step back in time in our minds. So glad you experienced the magic :-)
My husband and I needed to escape the city during 4th of July weekend, for the sake of our dog who is not a fan of fireworks. This rustic, historic cabin was perfect for our needs - secluded and quiet, with trails to explore and plenty of birdwatching - and very little firework noise!
We didn’t explore the area too much, but did enjoy eating at the nearby Fatbelly deli; the attached gas station has basic staples, should you need them: eggs, milk, butter, meat, beer, liquor, etc.
Sarah was a responsive host, and was easy to communicate with. The cabin is well stocked with pretty much anything you would need. The main part of the cabin is quite old - I’m guessing it was a pioneer cabin built in the early 1800s, which was pretty exciting for this history buff! While the listing is labeled as "rustic" you do have everything you need - shower, toilet, and most kitchen appliances (no oven). There’s also a great fire pit that we used for hot dogs and marshmallows on a couple of nights.
This is an old cabin out in the country, so don’t expect HGTV perfection - but if you’re looking for a quiet place to unwind and enjoy nature, then I would highly recommend it.

I am so glad that it was quiet up there this past weekend and that you enjoyed your stay!
I appreciated finding everything so clean and orderly after you checked out and a special thank you for picking up all of the pet waste around the cabin.
We'd love to have you back again at the Sanctuary in the Woods or one of our other properties.
About the host
Hosted by Sarah
We have lived and vacationed all over the country, but we keep coming back to Michigan. We love the variety of the changing seasons, the hills and valleys, the thick forests and open fields and especially all of the water. We love sharing our property with other Michiganders as well as people visiting the state for the first or hundredth time.
Why they chose this property
The quietness of the area is so amazing: Birds singing. Crickets chirping. Horse hooves clopping as they pull the Amish buggies and wagons down the street. This replaces the noise of vehicle traffic, blaring radios and people talking that surrounds us in the city.
What makes this property unique
The log and cement construction of the cabin is a great example of our history and pioneer architecture. It has stood through many generations of a family, some of which are still living on splits of the original 400 acres owned by the cabin's builder. The massive size of the trees also indicate their age and strength. The beauty of the wildflowers, woodland plants and animals are awe-inspiring.
