85 feet of lake front with dock. Spacious modern house with huge well equipped kitchen - everything from baking pans to 24 assorted herbs and spices. There is a 24 inch Amazon Fire TV in the kitchen. On the main level you will find the kitchen and living room, each with a sliding door opening onto the upper deck; master bedroom and bath suite with a door opening directly out onto the upper deck; as well as a second bedroom with a queen bed and another full bathroom. On the lower level is another large living room with 2 sleeper sofas, a bedroom with one twin bed and one double bed, and a full bathroom. The 55 inch Samsung TV is in the lower level living room. Also on the lower lever is the washer and dryer (laundry detergent provided). From the sliding doors on the lower level, you will exit onto the lower patio level with an outdoor eating area protected from the rain. The garage has been converted into a game room with a pool table and a ping pong table. Don't worry, there is still plenty of off road parking in the driveway in front of the garage and a secondary parking area at the side of the property. There is a Level 2 Electric Vehicle charging station in the garage, available for your use.
(Dock, water slide, swimming, kayaks, rowboat, canoe, and stand up paddle boards are available during the appropriate seasons only. The game room is unheated. )
Guests will have access to the entire house, except for one or two small locked supply closets. We love our area in every season of the year. Fall brings beautiful leaves and great hiking and mountain biking, or ride the Airline Trail. Winter is a peaceful quiet time here, with hiking, skating, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. Spring means beautiful flowers, pleasant temperatures, more hiking and biking, and a return to boating. And I guess we don't need to tell you how beautiful summer is, and how much there is to do here.
We're eager to hear from our guests, both about anything they may need and any ideas they have for improving the property. We may be able to help you with anything from finding babysitting to suggestions for activities to finding a mountain biking guide.
We are in the middle of a quiet friendly neighborhood. Spellman Point Road is a dead end road, so there is not a lot of traffic. Just a 3 minute walk down Bay Road is a Middlesex Land Trust park with trails for walking and mountain biking. Five minute drive to either Stop & Shop or Big Y for grocery shopping. Eight minute drive to the large playground at Memorial School. Lots of cute shops along downtown Main Street. 6 minute drive to the Air Line Trail, a great bike or walking rail trail.
We are right on Lake Pocotopaug, a beautiful body of water, providing boating and swimming opportunities. Across the lake from us is a town beach with a playground, and it is open to the public (although only residents can park there). We have a rowboat, kayaks and paddleboards for use by our guests, and a slide out on the water which kids will enjoy. On occasion the owners may also use the kayaks, paddle boards, rowboat or slide.
Plenty of free parking. Approximately 1 mile walk to Middletown Area Transit bus stop.
The owners of the house live in the adjacent property. We are always available by messaging for any questions or problems, and usually can come over in person if necessary. Like many lakes in CT, Lake Pocotopaug has had in the past problems with an overgrowth of blue-green algae, typically in the late summer. In spring 2020, East Hampton installed a bubbler system to prevent further algae blooms, and the town has also been actively addressing this problem with a combination of treatments, education and other mitigation efforts. This seems to be working well, and we haven't had an algae bloom in the last couple of summers, and water quality has been good. But we can't guarantee that there won't be an algae problem in the future. Should there happen to be an algae bloom causing the town beach to be closed for swimming during your stay at our property, we will offer you these options: 1. You may cancel your stay with no penalty. 2. You may keep your reservation but take a 20% rebate on the daily rate. Blue-green algae, also known as Cyanobacteria, can cause health effects on exposure, mainly if the water is swallowed, so it’s best for children not to swim if there is an algae bloom, and for adults to use their discretion. Some people with sensitive skin may have irritation from water exposure, but most people are able to continue to kayak, paddle board, etc. even during an algae bloom. If interested, check with your hosts about local baby-sitters, all kinds of biking expeditions, windsurfing and other local activities.

The property is exactly as described, the location is excellent (clean lake, close to restaurants, quiet neighborhood) and hosts were very responsive to any issues that came up.
Perfect spot for a week away during home renovations. Gorgeous location in a comfortable and well-appointed home with very gracious, organized, and attentive hosts. Dog friendly with thoughtful canine touches as well! We would definitely stay again!
We really enjoyed our visit. Best location on a very quiet section of the lake yet close to town with dining and shops. Beautiful lake with a great dock for swimming and kayaking. Dick & Linda are great hosts.
This property worked very well for our group of six adults. We especially appreciated the large well-stocked kitchen, the three full bathrooms, and the game room. The view of the lake was lovely, as were the outdoor spaces for enjoying it. Linda and Dick were always gracious, responsive, and generous hosts. It was great having grocery stores and pickleball/tennis courts nearby, and we made more than one visit to the Belltown Bakery in town--so good! All in all, a wonderful family vacation spot.

Thanks, Lauren - we enjoyed having you and your family as guests!
Beautiful home, fantastic view of lake, resort style bedding and linen. Well stocked kitchen in terms of equipment and dishes, etc. So, if you want to cook during your vacation- you can.
Already booked our vacation with them for next year.
We really enjoyed our visit. The house was clean and comfortable. Great location, lots of space. Dick and Linda made sure we had everything we needed (even dropped off a tub of Legos, some batteries and matches!) We love Lake Pocotopaug and would definitely stay again at this house. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality!

We would love to have you back anytime, Amy. I’m glad your family loved the lake as much as we do!
Well-attended to classic lakefront property on Lake Pocotopaug. Decking, outdoor seating, waterfront amenties, indoor activities (ping pong, pool, darts, board games) all very well thought out.
Communicative and gracious hosts, we felt very at home, and we loved our stay 😊
We rented this beautiful property for our first parents' weekend at Wes. It has a magnificent view, a wonderful layout, and the best hosts ever, who live right next door. They sent us lots of helpful info, gave us and our dog some snacks, and even brought over a dog bed. We will be back. We highly recommend it to any family or group of friends looking for a special place to make memories!

Thanks, Jenny! We enjoyed having you as guests and hope you will be back!
Beautiful setting! Very comfortable and clean rental. We rent a lot of VRBO properties and this is one of my favorites. The Kitchen was stocked and extremely spacious. Linda was a pleasure to work with, and I would highly recommend this property. The fireplaces didn't work, but from what I understand, the owners might be working on getting them running again. Other than that, excellent vacation!
Location of property was great! Nice size dock so kids can jump in water plus big enough to keep boat there. The water slide and pad was great fun. The lake was beautiful. The house was mostly updated but could use a little power washing. Overall, our family had a fantastic time. House had everything needed to cook, sleep and play.
Owner/ neighbors were very welcoming and attentive. Game room was a big hit for teens in all kinds of weather. House had flexible space for all eight of us. Lots of water activities such as rowboat, kayak, water slides and tubes. Nice views from both decks but could have used a quick power wash on the lower deck. Overall it was a relaxing enjoyable stay and we highly recommend it.

We’re so glad you and your family had a great time! Today we are having some work done on the deck (a storage area with door is being added under the deck, for kayak and paddle storage). So we had put off getting the deck power washed pre-season. We will be getting that taken care of soon.
Great multi level house right on the lake is a wonderful place to stay. Comfortable, clean, modern, well decorated, Kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal for o large family. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and the beds & towels are comfortable. Upper deck in the house overlooks the lake as well as a lower deck down by the water. Best of all Linda and Dick are great hosts, helping out when we needed it. We would highly recommend the place And are looking to come back for a return visit.

If a quiet no fuss lake trip near Wesleyan is up your alley this home was great! Clean well maintained and fully stocked on lake w paddle boards. Kayaks, row boat, tubes, slides, grill. Great space to hang w family instead of hotel and enjoy time w your kids ! Dogs welcome too and ours was sooo happy. Owner lives right next door so as long as you are courteous and not late night party people it’s fine. Location near supermarkets and nice restaurant on lake too. We enjoyed our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Richard Schroth
We’ve lived, worked, and raised our family in the friendly small town of East Hampton CT since 1978. We’d always been charmed by Lake Pocotopaug, the “crown jewel” of East Hampton, so in 2015 we downsized to a lakefront home. In 2022, the property next door came on the market and we jumped at the chance to purchase it. Linda is a retired family physician and Dick is a software developer. We are excited to offer a short term rental with a personal touch.
Why they chose this property
We purchased this property so that we could have space for our own family and friends when they visit.Since this rental property is right next door to our primary residence, it’’s easy for us to manage the property ourselves.
What makes this property unique
Ours is the only short term rental property on Lake Pocotopaug that has such a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities onsite. On the water guests can use the kayaks (adult and kid sized), rowboat, stand up paddle boards, tubes, and water slide, in addition to swimming. Outdoor games provided include corn hole, Kubb ( a wooden stick throwing game), and ladder ball, as well as a football and frisbee. In the game room (converted garage), guests can play ping pong and pool, as well as Connect 4 and magnetic darts, protected from the weather year round. And indoors we provide foosball and a good selections of toys, games and books for all ages. Another unique benefit is the Level 2 EV charger. We both like dogs and children, so don't be afraid to ask if you need a dog walker or a baby sitter.
