About this property

Grammy's Famous Lake House Retreat w/ Private Waterfront Access

Summary
Welcome to Grammy’s Lake House — a beloved 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath home sitting on nearly an acre with private dock access to the shimmering waters of Lake Pocotopaug. This isn’t just a vacation rental — it’s a place built on family traditions, warm hospitality, and memories passed down through generations. As Grammy’s grandson, I’m honored to share her home with guests who want the same joy and connection we’ve felt here for decades.

From the moment you arrive, the lake comes into view and life slows down. Mornings start with coffee in one of the three rocking chairs on the covered front porch, where the sun dances on the water. Afternoons are for jumping off the brand-new dock, fishing, or paddling across the lake. Evenings bring everyone together for a BBQ on the massive back deck or a game night in the cozy living room. Here, there’s room to spread out, unwind, and feel at home.

Why You’ll Love It Here:
Grammy’s Lake House has a soul — the kind of place where time slows down, laughter lingers, and the view from the porch stays in your mind long after you leave. Whether it’s the morning mist over Lake Pocotopaug, the splash of kids jumping off the dock, or the golden glow of a sunset BBQ, you’ll leave here with more than just a vacation — you’ll leave with memories.

The Space Inside, you’ll find:
- Three comfortable bedrooms, each with a queen bed, desk, and Wi-Fi so you can stay connected without losing the view.
- A bright, fully stocked kitchen with Keurig, air fryer, waffle maker, and everything you need for cooking — from big family dinners to lakeside snacks.
- A family room with board games and comfy seating for movie nights or rainy-day fun.
- Multiple gathering spaces including the inviting sitting room and a dining area big enough for everyone.

Outside, it’s all about Lake Life:
- Private dock just steps away for swimming, fishing, and boating.
- Covered front porch with rocking chairs and sweeping lake views — perfect for sunrise coffee or evening wine.
- Huge back deck with picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, and a propane grill for outdoor meals.
- Expansive yard for lawn games, birdwatching, or stargazing on clear nights.

Guest Access:
Guests have full access to the home, yard, deck, porch, and dock. The basement, attic, garage, and one storage shed are reserved for ownership use. Free driveway parking for up to 6 cars.

Other Things to Note:
- The home is over 100 years old — please treat it gently, just like you would your own grandmother’s house.
- Three exterior security cameras (driveway, garage, front door) are on-site for safety.
- Life jackets are required for all boating and water activities. No lifeguard is on duty; swim at your own risk.
- A guest binder inside the home features local dining, activity, and day trip suggestions curated from our family’s favorites.

Book your stay at Grammy’s Lake House today and discover the beauty, comfort, and charm of true lakeside living in East Hampton, Connecticut.

So easy and charming

This was a fantastic getaway! The house is terrific and well-kept. Three full bedrooms (with one bathroom en suite and another on the same floor). Kitchen well-equipped. Great outdoor areas. Coffee on the porch every morning. We grilled one night. Communication with Nile very fast, always helpful. We were quite happy here for four nights.

Front porch view is picturesque

Very comfortable rockers and Adirondack chairs make it easy to relax and enjoy the lake view. Our bed was comfortable, and Nile supplied all we needed with linens and soaps. We appreciated all the space and large dining table. Lake is beautiful. Very enjoyable stay. Exceptional communication with our host.

Enjoyable stay, nice property and great views. The home is aged, but the location is amazing! We had a nice weekend excursion to enjoy New England in October.

Spacious, with well supplied kitchen and comfortable beds. We enjoyed gazing at the lake from second floor rooms and front porch. We drove to downtown East Hampton which is a pleasant throwback to small town America of the '50s..

Cottage stay

We enjoyed our time at the cottage. We had an air conditioning issue when we arrived, and Niles took care of it by the next day. We did not spend a lot of time there because we were with family, but we had everything we needed.

Mothers Day

We had a fabulous time at the historic Bell house on the lake and enjoyed all that the area had to offer. The house is perfect for a large group and family to hang out. Great beds & linens provided. We will be back in the fall.

Linens, Mlaster Bed and Furnishings could use update

Beautiful turn of the century house. Cozy, but there needs to be updated blinds in the tv room. Windows in bedrooms should be blackout curtains, bathroom doesn’t have any curtains/blinds. Door entrance has no blinds. Couch has big rip under cover. Bathroom sink is clogged.Master bed could use a better mattress and frame. Pillows had stains. Poison ivy plant at entrance to driveway.

Wonderful stay

We participated in a family and friends stay at Lake Pocotopaug. This is a very comfortable home to stay in. Air conditioning works beautifully. A nice size kitchen. Comfortable bedrooms upstairs. The porch swing on the front porch with a view of the lake is just the best! Our grandchildren loved jumping off the dock into the lake. The large deck allowed for our extended group to visit and feel comfortable here.

Overall a nice stay

Overall a fine stay, it was nice to have all the space a home provides when traveling a week for work, I would consider staying here again. It is an old home and comes with all the creaks and noises, it took awhile but I did get used to it. The driveway is a bit steep/slippery in winter, need some salt on hand for that. And while it was no problem for us it's worth mentioning all bedrooms are upstairs and being an old home the stairs are narrow and steep so not for all travelers.

About the host

Hosted by Nile

Host profile image
This was my grandmother’s beloved lake home, and I’m honored to share it with guests the way she shared it with our family for generations. Grammy had a gift for making everyone feel welcome — whether it was through her famous recipe book, a rocking chair chat on the front porch, or a home-cooked meal after a day on the lake. I’ve kept those traditions alive, adding modern comforts while preserving the heart of her home. From the moment you step onto the covered porch and see the lake glistening beyond, I hope you feel the same warmth, love, and connection to this place that I do.

Why they chose this property

Grammy always said she picked this home because it “feels like you’re on vacation every day.” Perched on a gentle hill, the home has sweeping views of Lake Pocotopaug and a refreshing breeze in the summer. I love being able to walk down to our brand-new dock for a swim, canoe ride, or just to dangle my feet in the water. The neighborhood is peaceful and friendly, with the lake’s natural beauty right at your doorstep — perfect for morning walks, epic sunrises, evening sunsets, and everything in between.

What makes this property unique

Grammy’s Lake House is more than just a vacation rental — it’s a legacy of love, laughter, and lakeside living. The home sits on nearly an acre, giving you space to spread out and play, while the elevated position offers gorgeous lake views from almost every angle. Enjoy sunrise coffee from one of the rocking chairs on the front porch, grill dinner on the massive back deck, play corn hole or other games, and spend the day on our private dock with direct lake access. Whether you’re swimming, boating, or simply relaxing, this is a place to slow down, reconnect, and make memories that feel timeless.
