Q: How many people am I allowed to bring?
A: The maximum number of people in the house—or anywhere on our property—at any time is limited to eight individuals, including but not limited to guest(s), children, and other family members and/or visitors. This maximum occupancy may not be exceeded at any time—or for any reason—during the length of your stay.

Q: May I bring my kids under age 10?
A: Please contact us so we can discuss your family’s particular situation. Our oceanfront home is just steps away from the bluffs and poses a risk for unsupervised children. As parents ourselves, we take our guests’ safety very seriously and recommend that youngsters be closely supervised at all times.

The Sea Ranch is located in Sonoma County where the Transient Occupancy Tax – mandated under State Revenue and Taxation Code Section 7280 – is levied at a rate of 12% for all lodging less than 30 days (including vacation rental accommodations) and this fee is collected by Airbnb. Tranquility by the Sea

Clean, well maintained, fully stocked kitchen, private, close to ocean surf, far from nearest neighbors. Great place to relax, go for walks along the ocean, enjoy eclectic food in Gualala, watch the deer play and the seals lounge. Truly a restful, rejuvenating experience.

Stunning indeed!

You wake up to dreamlike panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and a cup of coffee. The house is architectural and elegant in every way. You walk along the cliffs and bluffs quietly observing aquatic life: a breaching whale, sea lions nestled on the beach below. And you think to yourself… I don’t ever want to leave. Glorious 4 days

we stayed for 4 nights at Vista Del Mar with our adult children and their friends. We ate at the lodge one night, then cooked at the house the other two nights. The house was so well equipped including all grilling equipment, pots, pans, platters. Great clean hot tub for sunsets and whale watching. We went hiking and fishing every day. There is no place quite like Sea Ranch and VDM was the ideal location to enjoy it.

Spectacular ocean view from the house, deck and hot tub

4 couples vacationed here together in early November. We loved the house. The four bedrooms were all very comfortable. Even the loft was spacious, had plenty of privacy, and had an ocean view. We chose this house to rent because of its location (close to the ocean) and we are so glad we did. Ocean view from almost every room. We cooked all meals in - the kitchen was very well equipped - nothing we needed was not there. The walking paths are wonderful. We did a lot of exploring and hiking. We spotted wild mushrooms everywhere - a mushroom forager's paradise. We used the main pool at the Ohlson Recreation Center. It was fantastic. Huge, heated, and empty. We had it all to ourselves. And there's a wonderful redwood sauna. Our favorite thing about John's house was the hot tub. It has sliding walls for privacy, which you can open to see the ocean (and deer passing by). At night, we'd all sit in the hot tub and marvel at the night sky and count the shooting stars we saw, and breathe in that delicious ocean air. We had a wonderful stay and definitely hope to return to Seascape and rent John's house again. And if you're into hiking: a must-do hike is the Russian Gulch Waterfall Loop trail - spectacular. It's just past Mendocino. After the hike, stop in Mendocino for lunch or early dinner.

Perfection on the Bluffs

What a gem this lovely home is… Set right on the bluffs, the serene setting and zen decor of this beautiful house set the mood for a very special family gathering…. The views from the house were so beautiful that we had to force ourselves to get out and further explore the area, which kept surprising with magnificent vistas, beaches, and groves of wind-blown trees. This was a perfect spot to reconnect with family and nature… Loved it!

Wonderful Sea Ranch Weekend

Our family including kids (2 & 5), and grandparents, had a wonderful weekend stay at Sea Ranch. John was so incredibly helpful at the time of booking and all the way through the end of our stay. We enjoyed our daily walks around Sea Ranch - including one of the playgrounds on-site (near a Seal preserve!). We enjoyed an afternoon swim on one of the days at the Moonraker pool. We also enjoyed all of the meals we cooked in the kitchen - we brought up many groceries but enjoyed filling in the gaps at The Surf store in Gualala. We hope to be back again soon!

Magical Family Vacation

Vista Del Mar is a magical place where one can experience living on the ocean’s edge. Sea breezes, ocean waves, and salty air set the mood. Chasing waves, building sand castles, collecting small treasures are only part of the experience. Walking the bluffs or hiking the forest trails do not disappoint. The house is perfect. The kitchen equipment is excellent, the window seats and beds are comfy. The entire experience is not to be missed!

The location is incredible, literally right at the water. It’s layout was perfect and big enough for everyone to enjoy. One of the best part of this home was the kitchen was fully stocked with every kitchen equipment/utensil imaginable. We loved staying here and would love to come back.

Clean, beautifully maintained property with sweeping ocean views. Good location within ranch by bluff trail. Uncluttered with just enough interesting personal objects, books, games to feel like home rather than a generic rental. Great house in great location

Excellent location with nearby ocean front view through big picture windows. Great master bedroom and bathroom with ocean view and very comfortable bed but no closet, only a short wardrobe; other two bedrooms are in a separate wing with one bathroom for the two bedrooms. Everything works well, the heat is specially efficient and fast.

Fantastic Sea Ranch Experience

My overall review is short: This is an excellent place--hard to imagine anyone who wants to stay in Sea Ranch not having a great experience. My notes for others on this house (to try and be helpful): Sea Ranch, as a whole, is one of the most lovely getaway spots anywhere. The drive up CA1 is worth the time alone, and the ocean-side houses and long meandering trails are the perfect way to relax. John has a great place right in the middle of Sea Ranch, and nicely close to the rec center/pool. It’s a great combination of functional along with that indescribable 70s era funkiness that I really enjoy. We had three generations sleep there for Christmas, and everyone was comfortable the whole time. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes/flatware as well as cook pots/pans/implements/spices, the couches and chairs are very comfortable, and there are more bed/sleeping combinations possible with the upper level loft than is apparent at first blush. Additionally, the sheets and blankets on the beds are very comfortable, helping even the lighter sleepers in our crew stay blissfully asleep. This feels much more like a beloved family vacation house, used by grandparents and many little kids alike (check out the pile of games in the bedroom closet), than a sterile purpose-purchased and appointed Airbnb. I would go back anytime. The only pointer for others—bring a bag of ice (and a meal for your first night) from the Stewart’s Point store or the Gualala Surf Market on your way in, so you can enjoy a cocktail at sunset your first night; as well-appointed as the kitchen is, there is no food to make a meal on check-in (including no cooking oil, coffee, ketchup, and other fridge dwelling condiments). Overall, I was very impressed with the house, and would absolutely stay here again. Jon was very communicative about setting expectations, check-in, and progress, and we tried to be as respectful as possible of his very lovely home.

Great location near the ocean and walking trails. Clean house and host was very attentive and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. Outdoor deck area was great for hanging out and could sit in the hot tub with a view of the ocean. You could hear the waves from the house :)

We’re proud to be the second generation in our family to own this beautiful custom home – and we've created countless warm memories here. When the opportunity presented itself to assume sole ownership, it was truly a dream come true. Because Vista Del Mar was originally designed as a year-round residence, we realized we didn't want our beloved house sitting idle in between our own getaways to Sea Ranch (we now reside on the San Francisco Peninsula). This seaside home isn’t just another impersonal vacation rental…it’s also still our family retreat whenever we can get away. And, as it turns out, making Vista Del Mar available to responsible families and/or couples as a vacation rental has made the Reis family – and our many guests – very happy.

Why they chose this property

The land was purchased when Sea Ranch first sprang up as a community (back in the late 1960s when there were only dirt roads). Being pioneers in this new town, our family was able to select the best of the best from all the available lots. Knowing that an ocean-front home – with steps-away access to a secluded beach – was on everyone’s wish list, the unique property on which Vista Del Mar now sits became part of the family. Speaking of family, guests often comment how “luxuriously inviting” it feels to stay with us. One main reason is this home wasn't built to be a part-time, weekend getaway house. From day one, the family was committed to designing and building a home to be enjoyed as their personal residence.

Our family has been active in Sea Ranch for over 40 years and we’re fully invested in the local community and its welfare. A portion of our rental income goes back into local businesses and social causes – as well as a range of non-profits including the “Coastal Seniors” project and Redwood Coast Medical Services (providing medical, dental and counseling services).

What makes this property unique

There truly is nothing like Vista Del Mar in all of Sea Ranch. First and foremost, we’re one of very few owner-managed rental properties in the community. You won’t be dealing with an impersonal management firm; we’re hand-on owners who also have a local caretaker who oversees our property. With comfortable sleeping space for eight adults, every room in our 2800+ sq. foot home has an unobstructed ocean view. The large, well-equipped kitchen is a cooks’ dream, the rec room has a Foosball table and there’s even a reading library and stocked games closet. Or you can just kick back in front of the 46” HDTV (with 230+ channels). As far as music goes, we have an amazing Bose Acoustimass 10-speaker sound system – as well as a baby grand piano in the main living area that overlooks the ocean. Step outside and enjoy the 1,600 sq. foot deck (with a BBQ connected to the home’s gas line) and a private ocean-view spa. You’re only 50 feet away from the ocean bluffs where you can explore the secluded beach directly below. Vista Del Mar offers a tranquil getaway and convenient access to the best part of the California coast. We know that you will come to love Sea Ranch just as our family has.
