About this property

Oceanfront estate with private hot tub & courtyard, dogs welcome

Summary:

Nothing between you and the Pacific but fresh salt air and the sound of the surf. Soak in the hot tub as the sun dips below the Pacific. Bring your pup -- dogs love the bluff trails here. Room for 7 in this 3-bedroom home. Just a 9-minute walk to the heated community pool. Sea Ranch's iconic trails, tidepools, and heated pools are all at your doorstep. The light here shifts by the hour -- silver mornings, gold afternoons, pink-and-orange sunsets.

The Space:

Indulge in striking indoor and outdoor spaces at this Sea Ranch home, an expansive oceanfront property that offers a private hot tub with breathtaking views, a large courtyard and deck, and direct access to the trails and beaches that make this coastal community so special. Gorgeously situated to face the Pacific Ocean, the rocky cliffs, and the scenic Bluff Trail, this two-level retreat is just one mile south of the Sea Ranch Golf Links. You'll also be less than two miles north of Walk On Beach, three miles north of Shell Beach, and three miles south of Gualala, where you'll find a charming selection of art galleries, restaurants, grocery stores, and shops.

With a spacious floor plan and truly spectacular ocean views, this peaceful home is an ideal escape for your next family holiday or couples' getaway to the Northern California Coast. Your vacation begins in the great room, where exposed beams create a wonderfully rustic atmosphere and solarium-style windows bring the magnificent outdoors in. Turn on the gas fireplace each morning as you read the newspaper on the sofa, or use the telescope to watch for whale spouts on the horizon. The immaculate open kitchen enjoys the same panoramic ocean views and features modern appliances to make meal preparation a pleasure. Lay out appetizers and wine on the kitchen counter, gather for dinner around the dining room table, and leave the post-meal clean-up for the dishwasher. Once the morning fog melts away, you'll find a gas grill in the sheltered outdoor courtyard, as well as a patio table on the deck for al fresco meals with an ocean view. Take a soothing soak in the hot tub at sunset, watching the ocean below for harbor seals, sea lions, and dolphins. Back inside, you'll find a total of three cable TVs, a DVD and Blu-ray player, a VCR, and a selection of VHS movies to watch during cozy evenings in.

Whether you're a hiker or a wildlife enthusiast, Sea Ranch is beloved in Northern California for its quiet beauty and its preserved natural landscapes. Walk less than two miles north to reach Gualala Point Regional Park, one of the best places to spot migrating gray whales from the shore. You'll also be within a short walk of the Sea Ranch Golf Links, where you can play 18 holes with ocean views. Don't forget the shared pool courtesy of the nearby rec centers, Sea Ranch Del Mar, Ohlson, and Moonraker Recreation Centers. SHARED AMENITIES

Getting Around:

Care to take a day-long excursion on California Highway 1? If you drive 52 miles north to the small coastal town of Mendocino, you'll experience one of the most beautiful stretches of this world-famous ocean road. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport, about 1.5 hours east.

Other Things to Note:

This vacation rental is not equipped with air-conditioning. Spend a relaxing morning at home playing a board game, using the WiFi to work in the office, or reading in the comfort of the library as the stereo plays in the background.

Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

December through April is whale season. You may spot gray whales breaching right from the bluff trail nearby. Wildflower season (April-June) transforms the coastal bluffs into a tapestry of color -- worth an extra walk on the trails. Summer offers long days and warm afternoons, though the iconic Sonoma Coast fog often rolls in at sunrise and clears by noon.

Up to 2 dogs are welcome. Please keep dogs on leash on trails and clean up after them.

Beautiful place surrounded by nature. Kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils we needed. Check in and out directions were easy to understand and overall, my family and i really enjoyed it. Would love to book this place again in the future.

Beautiful view. Floors are very worn and master bed needs replacement as there is pronounced sagging in the middle. The front door is very difficult to open. Mice in the house.

location is great

The views and proximity to walking the trail were excellent. The house smelled like dog urine, though, and the place needs a good cleaning and makeover.

The view from this property is unmatched. The hot tub was wonderful! Full kitchen set up, everything you need. The beds were very comfortable. We would love to come here again! The house does have some wear from the natural way it is built but it didn’t affect the cleanliness or the overall wonder of the house.

Wonderful place to stay, with the best views!

We love this house. It’s about as close to the ocean as you can get in Sea Ranch, with immediate access to the trail and amazing views from the living area of the house. Will be staying here again!

Great house, disappointed with window cleanliness

The stay was great but the windows were filthy! We totally understand air and sea make them dirty but we could barely see out of them. we saw neighbors cleaning with long squeegees and would have liked that treatment.

Marvelous Christmas destination

We loved the house - especially the location. Also for those of us who are older - wonderful rails on the stairs! Only problem, a leaky sink and of course this occurred on Xmas so did not get fixed before we left - we tried not to use the sink. Liked layout of house - great for various ages. We would definitely rent again!!

Beautiful views, great location, but house is a bit outdated

The expansive 180+ degree views of the coastal bluff are stunning. Loved the floor to ceiling windows. The house comfortably slept 3 couples, and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking.

Whales Galore

The house was great, especially for a get away during COVID. Secluded but accessible to trails & the beach for creature watching. Small family can stay on one side, while singles or couple get a room to themselves.

the views from this home are amazing! furnishings are a bit tired, but the location totally makes up for the lack of newness. vacasa was wonderful to work with. they made sure we had everything (and more) that we needed for a great thanksgiving. hot tub was great; watched a lot of whales from there.

Beautiful view and location

Gorgeous view; watched whales go by and enjoyed the changes in the ocean and the sky. Very relaxing. House is a little tired and could use some TLC. Seal in master bedroom picture window has "popped" so the condensation prevented that room from having a stellar view. A little $$ would make this place absolutely unbelievable.

Overall, very pleased

We loved the home. We would return. View is spectacular. Home is comfortable with wonderfully appointed couches and comfy corners. There is a positive quality to the energy and a feeling almost of a big farmhouse warmth. Some challenges that are definitely fixable: WiFi was unstable and weak Towels seemed thin and rough Front door mat was old and stained We couldn't figure out how to turn on the fireplace. But... All in all. We were quite happy with our experience. Warmly, Leni Miller

The Blush Has Worn Off The Rose

“While Compass Rose has a lovely view from the upstairs great room, this house has several issues that would not allow me to recommend it for future renters. Deferred maintenance is evident throughout the home and overall cleanliness is lacking.

Great location

We loved the location - right on the bluff. The design of the house was the most unusual we’ve been in, but in a good way. It would have been nice to have a floor plan or more description of room locations in the property description. The house really needs a deep cleaning - lots of nooks and crannies for dust and spider webs. Also, the view windows needed cleaning to sharpen our view, caused by the salt air from the ocean. And as with many houses in Sea Ranch, there is a lot of water seepage on the interior woodwork. Water was dripping in and near the kitchen sink each morning from condensation from the overhead window. The house could use some TLC. Overall, the stay was a great experience for our family.

Great location; tired and worn property

Great location with water views from the living/kitchen area and master bedroom with working hot tub. Issue is about the value for what it is. This place is very much a rental and lost its pride of ownership long ago. We had issues with heat getting to the upstairs (the coast is cold) and there is no central heat to the master bedroom/bath... we borrowed a space heater on day 2. Instructions on heating the place were dated (no mention of how to operate the gas fireplace or there was a space heater hidden in the corner of a closet.) Cold master bathroom is a given. Bring your own toilet paper unless you are OK with 1 ply from a third world country. You may also want to bring your own towels as well. One more thing... once you are in this fishbowl of a master bedroom you realize that there are no windows that open and the slider is wayyyy stuck, so consider your emergency fire exit options (i.e., up a curved flight of stairs, across the kitchen/living room, down a flight of stairs, out of the door).

All about the View!

This home sits in the perfect location. The view is stunning! Our friends, 6 of us have stayed here about 6 or 7 times since 2015. We love the architecture of the house. The jack and Jill bedrooms have soft but not very comfortable beds. There’s a dip in the middle and you roll into your partner. I looked under the beds in both rooms and noticed cinderblocks and chunks of wood that are there to possible support the bed but it’s not. The basic cleanliness of the bathrooms and kitchen is good. But there are cobwebs and dust through out the house. Rodents are present. We checked in and found a dead mouse in the kitchen. Mouse turds were in drawers, side table, and even on the couch. Last complaint is the windows were dirty and with that view it makes a big difference! Like everything else since Covid the price has gone up and it seemed the housekeeping isn’t a priority. Was there a change in ownership?

Location, Location, Location

This is the most iconic house on the bluffs at Sea Ranch, situated at the best location: Del Mar Point. It's a five star house, which deserves maintenance which it hasn't received. Remove half a star for that. All of my remarks have been conveyed to Vacasa Customer Service and the top notch staff at the Gualala office. We arrived during the Jan 2023 atmospheric river storms and the power was out. We came prepared with portable power stations, a portable frig and ice chests, rechargeable lamps and headlamps. We were able to light 4 of 5 burners on the stove so we could cook. We lit the gas fireplace. There was no fan but we didn't need it. It wasn't cold upstairs. To our surprise the water heater had a pilot, not a piezo ignitor so we had hot water the entire time. The storms were fantastic. The 20' to 30' waves were extraordinary to view, hear and feel from upstairs. The rain was torrential; not so great in a house made of glass. The roof, hot tub deck and windows should be inspected and repaired after such a series of storms. There was a lot of leaking. After 5 days the power was fully restored. The house had been cleaned but there are old cobwebs throughout the house that need to be addressed. The GFI's in the shared bathroom downstairs wouldn't reset. The ignitors on the two front burners on the stove didn't work. The handle on the front door was so loose it was difficult to operate and would spontaneously lock itself. We noticed and appreciated the new living room furniture. Comfortable and suitable. And group members enjoyed the hot tub, once it was heated. Gripes and notes to future renters: The pans are awful. Bring your own. The cooking utensils are flaccid plastic. They should be replaced with better quality plastic and wood. The can opener needs to be replaced. There are plenty of plates and bowls, but no food storage containers. Plenty of flatware but no teaspoon-sized spoons. There were no tongs. Bring extra towels in case of another power outage. Although you'll be able to take nice hot showers, you won't be able to launder towels. The consumables were stocked adequately. We added foil, baggies and dish soap. We've been renting houses for over ten years at Sea Ranch and Compass Rose was the one I most looked forward to. It was as amazing as I had imagined. I'd love to rent it again. I hope the owners take the maintenance requests to heart.
