Easy walk to Shell Beach and privately located at the end of the cul-de-sac. Located on .5 acre with empty .5 acre lot in the south side. We need to let you know that the lot located directly in front of our house will be starting a new home construction in late January. We were notified of this house start on January 5, 2026. One-Eyed Jack playground is a short distance away and our grandchildren love exploring the cypress hedgerow next to the playground. We are sure you will enjoy your stay and love the peacefulness & beauty of The Sea Ranch.

We enjoyed staying at this lovely cozy property. Cooking in the updated kitchen was very pleasant, and everything was easy and clearly communicated. All ages included this relaxing, peaceful getaway.
our family had a wonderful christmas holiday at abalone point. the house worked perfectly for 8 adults. we loved being all together in the open living and dining areas, with comfortable seating and great views of the pacific. we enjoyed cooking in the large, well-appointed open kitchen. also appreciated the separate bedroom spaces and the three propane fireplaces, outdoor decks and hot tub. the location was great - took many walks on trails and enjoyed seeing all the wildlife. the house was very clean and well-organized, and we appreciated the host’s most helpful and timely communications. we would definitely return again.
Great house and great host! This house was perfect for our family. The kitchen is well equipped and easy for a few people to work in at once. The loft space was idea for one of us that needed to work during our stay. We will definitely book this house again!
This house was great for our two families with 4 children. The location was great for walking to the beach. We loved the separate little cottage which was so peaceful.
BEAUTIFUL! Great place to have a family celebration.

We are a bit perplexed as to why our house layout was considered odd. In the 15 years of renting & many, many 5 star reviews, we have been told numerous times how families love the size of the great room which includes the large kitchen, dining area, game area and huge couch in front of the large tv and lots of windows with ocean views. The house also offers a quiet area in loft for someone who needs to work while visiting or wants a quiet space to read on the window seats. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with no necessary sharing of bathrooms. The "Casita" might be considered unique because it is detached from main house but this second master suite has a private deck and own bathroom. Many guests find this area wonderful for the couple who needs quiet and a place to sleep in late without the noise of early risers.
Our checkout list was modeled after those used by the property managers in the area. Unlike a hotel, guests are asked to follow simple instructions such as turning off heat, closing shades, locking up, turning off lights, running dishwasher, striping the beds. The list is easily managed in a short amount of time, especially if guests divide it up between them. We arrived the next day after these guests and discovered 5 outdoor lights left on. We do appreciate the help of guests who follow the list & help keep PGE bills reasonable. We have been fortunate to have most of our guests happy to help with maintaining our house to its high standards.
Our stay at Abalone Point was awesome! Peggy’s home was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The 4 of us who stayed here had a very relaxing weekend lounging around the house / enjoying the surrounding area
We had a wonderful holiday weekend at Abalone Point! The views were excellent, the house is beautifully decorated, and it was well suited to accommodate our family of six adults and one baby.
We had a wonderful stay at Abalone Point. The house was well located with a view of the ocean and had everything we needed for a family get-away. We had beautiful weather and enjoyed walking the Bluff Trail each day. The owners really care for their home and it shows in the way it is maintained. We look forward to staying there again.
Our family loved the both the house and Sea Ranch. The house was very comfortable, with lots of common areas to relax and and very well stocked kitchen. We spent a lot of time walking the paths, seeing deer every morning, and going to visit the harbor seals. Would definitely return.
This house was a magnificent place for our family to stay for the Christmas holidays! It was spacious, warm and dry, and offered an especially well-stocked kitchen. With the casita, we all had plenty of space to spread out, and with the coastal and up-in-the-hills walks, plenty of space to roam. Access to the rec centers, with their pools and saunas, was also welcome. Brava!

We have been to Sea Ranch for over 30 years and stayed in many homes there. This house is sorely in need of updating (furniture, appliances etc.). The owners clothing is in the closets on hangers. The lighting is terrible and it is impossible to read or play games or do any activity in the evening or night. There is no outside lighting accessible to guests which makes it hard to go in and out. (The host recommended using a flashlight.) Blankets smelled musty and need cleaning. The host had us sign a checklist that we completed all 'checkout' requirements which felt unnecessary and inhospitable. (We have never seen this before.) We have stayed in many vacation homes and never seen this before. We will not return to this house.

We take great pride in our ownership of our beautiful SR home & so sorry it did meet guests expectations. Our kitchen was gutted & totally remodeled 3 years ago with new stainless steel appliances & new tv in January. Guests tell us how they love it’s organization & that it is well supplied, many serving pieces & spices. There are 7 outdoor lights operated by light switches inside. Lights are left off when house is empty & as a courtesy we suggest a flashlight if you arrive after dark because you need to use a key pad. The switch in entry operate all 5 back lights. Normally we have 3 floor lamps but had taken 1 home to replace the shade & it is back to house now. However, we have 2 rechargeable cordless lightweight table lights located on the table below kitchen. These are fantastic for being able to move to outdoors, game table, or anywhere. They can be adjusted from very bright to mood lighting with a simple tap of the finger…perfect if power is lost. Blankets do get washed when needed & left in baskets or on closet shelves. We left out a few extra heavy jackets in closet for guests to use if cold sitting on front deck at night but will consider removing. Our checklist is a simple reminder of basics..turn off heat, lights, drop shades, lock doors, empty refrigerator, start dishwasher, take out garbage, strip beds. It was modeled after a local Gualala rental company for safety reason. Our home has had consistently very high reviews & we are perplexed at review.
About the host
Hosted by Peggy & Tom Phister
Our family camped on the North Coast for nearly 30 years with a love of the ocean, abalone diving and good times camping with family and friends. We learned of The Sea Ranch and began to rent homes after our camping area was closed. We soon discovered the wonderful amenities and luxuries that Sea Ranch offered. We decided to name our house 'Abalone Point' since we loved abalone diving and we met 44 years ago on Catalina Island and loved swimming at Abalone Point on Catalina Island. We are now retired and can spend the time to maintain and keep our Sea Ranch home up to our standards.
Why they chose this property
'Abalone Point' was under property management for 4 years but we now have the time to manage the property ourselves and offer amenities not possible before. Our home will now have linens provided with the beds made so that you can enjoy your visit from the moment you walk in the door. You will find kitchen & bath towels too. Through our years of renting, we discovered many homes lacked kitchen amenities. We enjoy cooking & decided to outfit the kitchen with good kitchen dishes, knives, pots and pans, lots of spices and seasonings for the gourmet chef. Please let us know if we are missing some! Views from the kitchen windows will make you want to cook. The couch and window seat will draw you for a nap, reading a book, or watching the wildlife. Deer love to graze around the house and often take their afternoon naps under the shade of a tree down from the house. Don't be surprised to see hawks, turkeys, or a fox walk by. You can take a walk or bike ride to Shell or Tidepool Beach. Our grandchildren love collecting shells and other treasures at these amazing spots (especially at low tide). The seals are always there, taking their naps or watching you as you explore the beach. Another favorite spot in the house is the game table with views as you do a jigsaw puzzle or play one of the many games provided. One-Eyed Jack playground is a short distance away and our grandchildren love exploring the cypress hedgerow next to the playground.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with the openness of this home not only inside but outside. Unique to our house is the large open mowed space surrounding the house which has allowed for many a whiffle ball game, soccer, bocce, frisbee or kite flying. Bring your bicycles to enjoy either mountain biking on the trails or biking Leeward Road for a 8 mile roundtrip from our house on a road with little elevation change. We designed the detached 'Casita' for a unique suite with its own deck, gas fireplace, flat screen t.v., DVD & spectacular views. Family & guests cannot decide which master suite they like best at the house. You will see from our photo album at the house that we have done much of the work ourselves from installing slate floors, painting, to unique artistic light fixtures. Our decks give you lots of options for sun or shade & protection from wind. The solar effect on the vast front windows keep the house toasty warm on cold days. We are sure you will enjoy your stay and love the peacefulness & beauty of The Sea Ranch. PLEASE NOTE: We do not allow parties or gatherings of any kind unless you contact us specifically about the occasion and have our prior approval.
