Best Location! Walk, Shop & Eat on Summit, Grand & Selby; Sleeps 15!
Welcome to the "Gatsby Getaway" an extraordinary home where modern amenities meet historical detail! Enjoy bluff views from the gracious front porch, where a young F. Scott Fitzgerald used to visit his friend Sam to plan boyhood adventures, and ride the streetcar to and from downtown St Paul. The Gatsby Getaway is ideal for large groups or family gatherings: we have hosted and are a perfect spot for family wedding weekends, girlfriend reunions, 70th birthday celebrations, work retreats, and more--see additional rave reviews in photo area. Home is near major roads and a freeway for easy access to area attractions, but is high on the bluff, making it a quiet and serene escape!
-Walk to dining & shops on Selby or Grand; just blocks to the Cathedral and over 30 restaurants and coffee shops, 5 minutes to events at XCel Center and downtown St Paul, 15 minutes from MSP airport, downtown Minneapolis and the convention center!
Your whole group will be comfy in this 5600sf getaway, designed by architect Cass Gilbert, with spaces to both gather or find solitude. Enjoy socializing in the gracious front living spaces, and cooking together in the spacious, open, eat-in kitchen with adjoining 3 season sun room and formal dining. Private library with desk for quiet working space.
Five bedrooms on the second floor, with walk-in closets and plenty of bedding, towels and a free laundry; two bedrooms on third floor, with large TV and entertaining area which includes a full kitchen for an additional apartment-style space. Fully stocked kitchen with plenty of barware, wine fridge, ice maker, serving pieces and even formal china for 16! Your hosts are right next door for any last minute needs. Please text with any questions!
Guest access: The whole house, from main floor spaces to the top of the turret are yours to explore and enjoy. --Please note the primary bathroom suite's shower is shared by another bathroom - some coordination may be required within your party. And while we painstakingly clean and care for the home from top to bottom, note this home is over 134 years old: though greatly cared for, it may occasionally show its age in a few places. Though we strive for perfection, expect to find some charming patina both inside and outside.
Overall, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time in this hidden gem of a neighborhood, where neighbors wave and gather on front porches to drink coffee or wine, and where kids still run barefoot down the sidewalks, chasing lightning bugs. The historic area itself is just fantastic: Steps to both 599 Summit Ave, where F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote his first novel, "This Side of Paradise," and to the Commodore, where he lived with Zelda and eventually their daughter Scottie: "We got to the Commodore in St. Paul, and while the leaves blew up the street we waited for our children to be born." Saint Paul has the nation's longest stretch of Victorian homes; walks though out the neighborhood during any season are beautiful!
This elegant home is ideal for anyone from couples to a group of 14 to enjoy time together, and especially for lovers of history! The neighborhood is a quiet escape in the middle of the city: to preserve the quiet, neighborhood feel, city rules prevent use of this property for any events or parties: please know to be respectful of our neighbors, unauthorized or unapproved guests or loud parties are cause for eviction.
We welcome you to enjoy a comfortable step back in time in the most beautiful and well appointed short stay in St Paul!

We had plenty of space for cooking, visiting, relaxing, reading, sleeping, and getting ready in the AM. It is a beautiful home in a nice, historic area. We were there for a family wedding, and we had ample space for all of us and for the hair-dresser and make-up lady. I highly recommend this place to you, and we will definitely return next time we are in the area.
This was our second year staying at the Gatsby Getaway and we LOVED IT, as we did last year. The kitchen is fabulous for making large holiday meals; we did Thanksgiving last year and Christmas this year. The bedrooms are well appointed. I personally was on the third floor this year and found it very comfortable. We all enjoyed lounging in the sitting rooms and chowing down in the gorgeous dining room. Our energetic golden-doodle also loves this house -- all the stairs and the fenced in backyard. Highly recommend this spot and this host -- Linda was friendly and helpful!
Linda’s place is absolutely amazing! Gorgeous home, beautifully furnished and decorated, every amenity we could possibly need and an easy walk to wonderful shops and restaurants. I would love to return!
The place is stunning and offers a fantastic space for spending time with friends after a destination wedding. The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing meals for large groups, and there are plenty of areas for both big gatherings and more intimate conversations.
Our stay was awesome in this lovely older home! The attention to detail in everything was evident! Communication with the owner was excellent and the location could not be beat! We had plenty of room for 3 families and the kids loved the 3rd floor area! Will be back for sure!
Lots of spaces to share conversation and games, quieter corners for reading and work. A beautiful house for a large group… we were 14 people of all ages and we all enjoyed the experience.
This is a beautiful house, wonderfully large and historic. It was perfect for our family reunion, had room for all the families to stay in one place yet room to get away from each other. Nice neighborhood, with restaurants and shopping in walking distance. Great experience!
We loved the house! Every room was clean and beautifully decorated. Enough amenities were provided for the couple of days we were there (toiletries and the like). Would happily stay again!
Everything was perfect. I have a big family and we were in town for a wedding with siblings, parents, infant, and dog. Would stay here again. Great communication with host throughout. Everybody greatly enjoyed their stay.
We had an excellent stay at this location. Grandkids stayed with us most nights and had kids, grandkids and friends of our children in for an Easter Sunday celebration, praise God. Daily hikes through the neighborhood, elegant meals at the house, quiet and boisterous visiting, etc. Would recommend it to anyone who loves beauty.
Amazing house - historical and beautiful, yet with a good kitchen and plenty of space for extended family activities. We were guests as part of visiting the area for a local wedding event, and had a mix of family and friends in the house. Linda (the owner) is a good person to work with.

Hi, Wesley, It was such a pleasure to meet you -- we enjoyed hosting your group, and even helping with the few extra items needed to make the occasion perfect!
--We welcome you and your group back any time, if here for another event, or just for a quick getaway for some fun and relaxation in this beautiful, historic part of St Paul!
This gorgeous, historic home was perfect for our family of 15. We loved the spacious layout, beautiful tree-lined neighborhood, fenced backyard for our toddlers, the third floor which allowed teens their separate space, ample kitchen and much more. Location gave us easy access to restaurants and shops on Grand Avenue. Host was super gracious and easy to work with. Everyone in our family is eager to return for another visit.
This Victorian home filled with history is right in the middle of a history filled neighborhood of even more notable homes. Our group of seven was taken with the very well equipped kitchen and lovely furnishings, first class linens, and antique knick knacks. One minor complaint was that some of the bedding was too soft for comfortable sleep. The owners are highly professional and accessible. Not a home for young children, but adult families and/or friends will be delighted.
We had three families with kids ranging from newborn to 12 years old. This house every thing we needed. It was the perfect size for all of the families to have their own space/bathroom. We had great communication from host with quick answers to our questions and very helpful. Great location! It is close to downtown and restaurants. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun stay in St. Paul!
We were visiting St Paul to attend a wedding and I was fortunate to come accross this amazing property to be our home for four days. Wonderful Property Manager, gorgeous home, fabulous neighborhood and well stocked with everything that you need in a home. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home!
The place was absolutely beautiful! Clean, organized, perfect location and a property manager was great to work with. We had so much fun just hanging out in such a beautiful historic house. There are many rooms to gather in and enjoy together but anlso easy to retreat to a space for an escape. Great bars and restaurants just minutes away. The sunrise view in the morning was breathtaking. Highly recommend this St Paul gem. Looking forward to coming back with family next time.

About the host
Hosted by Linda Wutzke
Jeff and I are students of history and architecture, and enjoy homes with beautiful detail. We have remodeled many homes over the years, but with our move to St Paul have found a new passion for restoration, and our experience with remodeling is now channeled into preserving and saving these historic gems, and now we get to share a remarkable historic home with our guests!
Why they chose this property
We have enjoyed living in the west suburbs of the Twin Cities for a long time, but eventually found we wanted to live in the same type of place we look for when we vacation: a beautiful location within easy walking distance to coffee, shops, and a beverage or two. What we stumbled on was a step back in time to a quiet neighborhood in the middle of the city, where neighbors share wine on front porches while kids run barefoot up and down the sidewalks. Magic.
What makes this property unique
This home is designed by Cass Gilbert, one of our nation's first nationally known architects, who designed the MN state capitol building, the Supreme Court building and the Woolworth's building, New York City's first "skyscraper" among others, and we are very pleased to share its beauty with others!
--We still marvel at the leaded glass windows, hand carved woodwork, ornate detail, and heavy pocket doors. The many rooms and front and back stairs make the home a fun place for youngsters to explore!
--You will find your hosts living right next door, working to preserve another 1889 home, in yet another Cass Gilbert designed home worth saving!
