Thank you Andy! Glad you enjoyed your stay and got to go fishing. We appreciate how well you took care of our place and would be happy to host you again in the future. Marsha and Rex
This lovely lake house was perfect for our needs. It was within thirty minutes of every place we wanted to go.The sunroom is a very peaceful place for your first cup of coffee in the morning. The owners were great about communication.Other than my thirteen month old grandson developing croup at the very end, it was perfect.Even buying groceries was so easy. We placed our order online and Tom’s Grocery brought our order to the car.

Brenda and her family were great guests. Very respectful and wonderful with communication. We would not have any hesitation in renting to them again.
We loved staying at the lake. The owners were excellent and left us a snack which was awesome. They were up front that home was a work in progress, and it didn’t matter really because we didn’t spend much time in the home and went on several adventures on the days we were up there. It was a beautiful area and being lake front made it that much better.

Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
This house is in an excellent location, but not at all in condition to be rented. The house is wipe down clean, but not professionally cleaned. The carpets are full of mildew. There are stains everywhere. Food was stuck on dishes and pots. Bathrooms were not cleaned. Hot water was minimal and if the kitchen sink was on— the shower was cold. Even though it says the place is set up for 8– it is best suited to six or less. Also, it is not super clear there is only one shower. The outdoor furniture was minimal. One table was rusted out and did not have any seats in the chairs. The indoor dining table was unstable. The beds are very hard. We definitely would have moved and looked to find another place— but nothing was available. We spent minimal time at the house. Marsha did leave us note saying the carpet needed to be cleaned, but really the state of the carpet— which by the way— is in the bathrooms and the kitchen — is in extremely poor condition. Also it says there is a hot tub on the property, but there is not. We took about 25 pics and videos if anyone needs to see more.

I admit an error was made as this house does not have a hot tub. It has a jet tub in the Master bath. The kitchen and one bath do have carpeting as shown in pictures. There is no mold or mildew on the carpet but there are stains due to recent previous renters who did not treat house well. We did hire professional cleaners in the 29 hours between renters on 7/26 and 7/27. Products used were Clorox Toilet Wands, Clorox Clean-up Cleaner with Bleach, 409, and Windex on all bathroom and kitchen surfaces. I personally supervised this as I was dusting & doing laundry. The cushions for all patio chairs are cloth & were in the adjoining & accessible garage. I don’t leave them out in the rain for obvious reasons. We have 16 outside chairs for use which should be enough for 8 people. All beds are firm as most good hotels will have firm beds. A thick foam cushion was available that can be placed between mattress pad and sheet. I did not go through the cabinets checking each plate for cleanliness as they were put away by previous tenant. We find the dining room table stable so I don’t understand this issue. But these renters also said I left no soap and limited shampoo and cream rinse. A box of Dove soap was left in each bath along with new containers of liquid soap. Extra shampoo & cream rinse (from Costco) were under sink with hair dryer & toilet paper. The new box of Dove soap was still there after they checked out. They left stains (urine?) on linens & ruined down throw.
About the host
Hosted by Rex and Marsha
I thought Serendipity was a good name for this home as back in 1970 on our second date we came up to Torch Lake where Rex's parents were building a home. I fell in love with him and the area but unfortunately our timing was off and 18 months later we broke up. Fast forward to 2001 when I am living out in Phoenix, AZ and we are both single again. This time our timing wasn't off and we got married.
Why they chose this property
Rex had an office building in Traverse City and for numerous reasons decided to sell it in May 2022. He had 45 (or 60) days to turn around the money or pay capital gains but couldn't find an office building to fit their needs. About 10 days before the time was up this home came on the market. We looked at it the first day and fell in love with it and made an offer right then. It needs to be rented for 2 years before we can move in to it and live out our senior years there. We immediately felt how peaceful and comfortable this property is. We hope you do too!
What makes this property unique
This home is back from the road which is nice. I think when we walked through the front door and saw all the windows looking out to the lake made a huge impression on us. The house has a pretty open floor plan with high ceilings. A large kitchen with seating at the peninsula counter. A good size Master bedroom with bath. But I think the sunroom or porch is what was we really liked. Rex would like that to be his office. We spent time out there furnishing it and got to know the neighbors who are all wonderful. It's just a very peaceful calming place. Also, gets a great breeze off the lake -- perfect for sleeping with windows open!
