About this property

Charming LAKE SUPERIOR Beach Cottage in Keweenaw, near Calumet. NORTHERN LIGHTS!

Discover your favorite home away from home on the Keweenaw Peninsula, right on LAKE SUPERIOR! Portside Cottage at North Shore Cottages has everything you want in a lakefront cottage and so much more. Our central location can't be beat and our hospitality is unrivaled.

Each of our cottages or lake-houses are private from one another with separate yards and driveways plus we have no neighbors along the shore for miles, unlike anywhere else up here. Fantastic for agate pickers, swimmers and sun bathers and those seeking the NORTHERN LIGHTS. While being uniquely quiet and private we still have the convenience of all local services including restaurants, emergency, floral to car repair in downtown historic Calumet a short 3.5 miles away. We are also conveniently located near all area attractions; Copper Harbor, Mt. Bohemia, Swedetown, and the Houghton/Hancock area.

The cottage has 1 bedroom with 2 double beds and a rollaway couch in the living room. The kitchen has all the necessities like gas top stove and refrigerator, plus extra amenities such as a microwave oven, electric coffeemaker, French Press, and toaster. Ample supply of utensils, pots and pans to cook. A variety of dish and glass-ware plus sundries such as dish soap and towels provided. The bathroom has a full bath/shower, Apotheke toiletries, hair dryer and all bath towels provided in a variety of sizes. High speed Wi-Fi is included for streaming, zoom, and all other high-speed needs.

Our location is very clean and well-maintained with an extra touch to create a memorable and relaxing stay. Our team takes great pride in their work and they go above and beyond to accommodate the guest with an unparalleled stay in Keweenaw. We love to help with special requests or can stock the fridge for an additional fee.

Open year round, come relax and enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the cottage surroundings from the wrap-around deck that overhangs above Brewery Creek and faces Lake Superior directly, just steps to the sand or relax in the cozy patio furniture. Take a kayak or stand up paddle board at sunset for an experience like no other. End your day with a beach fire and a night sky like you won't see anywhere else, aurora borealis or not.

You will truly love the beauty of the Copper Country and love staying at North Shore Cottages, even if you never leave your cottage! For close to 20 years we have been a go-to favorite for so many repeat guests year after year. We book out for summer and other popular dates at least 1 year in advance. Call or email for information on wedding and event options or to secure your reservation today!

About the host

Hosted by Philip Roberts

Host profile image
Hello, My name is Philip Roberts. My grandparents purchased this property in 1927 as a residence where they had a small farm and ran the C&H Mining Waterworks which provided city water for Calumet and surrounding area.

Why they chose this property

The Roberts family has enjoyed this beach property for three generations. We built the cottage in 1999 to share this special place with visitors from all corners of the world.

What makes this property unique

Running alongside the cottage is a small babbling trout stream that opens up to Lake Superior on the beach. There you can enjoy a campfire under the stars or even catch the northern lights, take a dip in Great Lake Superior, hunt the perfect rock or agate, fish 'til the sun goes down, barbecue on the charcoal grill and picnic at the picnic table, or take a nature walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the beach and forest. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or snow-shoe right out your front door.
