About this property
Harborfront in Dunmore Town: The Doll House, Pool, Sunsets
The Doll House is a two-hundred-year-old Bahamian colonial cottage standing directly on the bay in Dunmore Town, Harbour Island. Pink and white, shuttered, shaded by palms, it is one of the most photographed houses on the island. Four en-suite bedrooms sleep eight (to ten). Behind the house there is a walled private pool, a cabana, a covered breezeway and three patios, and at the front a porch that looks west across the water.
Please note: this property is currently listed for sale. We intend to honour every confirmed booking and are accepting reservations on that basis. If the property is sold and the new owner does not take over your booking, we will cancel and refund everything you have paid, in full. We recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation by the owner.
The house
Four air-conditioned bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The primary bedroom opens toward the pool; there is a second queen bedroom downstairs, and a queen and a 2-twin room upstairs. There are beds for up to ten, but the listing is set at eight overnight guests, so please enquire before booking if your party is larger. Full kitchen with dishwasher, separate dining room, living room, washer and dryer, wifi throughout, and a generator that carries the house through a power cut.
Outside
A private walled pool, a cabana, a built-in gas barbecue, a dining courtyard, a covered breezeway between the buildings, three patios and a tropical garden. The front porch and lawn face west over the harbour, which is where most guests end up at six o'clock.
The island
Dunmore Town starts at the end of the front lawn. Fisherman's Dock is a four-minute walk, and Pink Sands Beach, three miles of pale rose sand on the Atlantic side, is eleven minutes on foot or two by golf cart. Restaurants, the straw market, groceries and the ferry dock are all within a few minutes. North Eleuthera airport is a short ferry crossing plus a twenty-minute drive.
Service
Daily maid service is included, and there is no cleaning fee and no mandatory housekeeping charge. A gratuity of 50 dollars per room per week for the housekeeper is customary and entirely at your discretion. Our house manager Tavar is always nearby on the island to help with anything you need during your stay.
Rates and charges
Rates and charges
The price Vrbo shows you already includes every mandatory fee. There is no cleaning fee and no housekeeping fee, and we have not added one. Two things sit outside that price. Bahamian VAT is charged at the prevailing rate in addition to the rent. And pool heating, if you want it, is 400 dollars per rental week — the pool is unheated unless you ask for it. Nothing else is added at any point.

About the host
Hosted by Dagan McCann
The Doll House has belonged to our family since 1965. It is the only property we let, and we have never wanted a second one.
Most of what is in the house was chosen by the family rather than by a decorator. The colours came off the island, pinks and greens and sea blues, and the furniture has been collected over the years rather than ordered all at once. It looks like a house people have actually lived in, because it is.
We are not on the island full time, so the day to day is in better hands than ours. Tavar manages the house and is nearby throughout your stay, and the housekeeper comes daily. Between them they know the answer to almost anything you will want to ask: where the good conch is that week, who to call about a golf cart, which side of the island the wind is on.
What we care about is that the house is properly ready when you arrive and that someone picks up when you call. The rest is detail.
Why they chose this property
Dunmore Town is about three streets deep and you can walk the whole of it in twenty minutes. That is the point of it.
The house is on Bay Street, facing west over the harbour. The ferry dock, the fish shacks at Fisherman's Dock, the straw market and the grocery are all a few minutes on foot, so you are not travelling anywhere to get a coffee, a drink or dinner. It also means sunset happens directly in front of the house rather than somewhere you have to go and find.
Pink Sands Beach is on the Atlantic side, eleven minutes on foot or two by golf cart. Three miles of pale rose sand, and usually close to empty even in high season.
Two things people underestimate before they come. How much of Harbour Island happens on foot, and how completely the town goes quiet after dark. Both are arguments for being in the middle of it rather than out on the ridge.
What makes this property unique
Three things, honestly.
The first is where it stands. The house is on the bay and in the middle of town. Not a water view from a distance, and not a quiet compound a golf cart ride away. The front lawn runs down toward the harbour and the porch faces west.
The second is the house itself. Around two hundred years old, Bahamian colonial, pink and white with its shutters, and photographed by strangers most days of the week. Inside there are four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and a separate dining room rather than a table in the corner of the kitchen.
The third is the back of the house, which nobody expects from the street. A walled pool out of sight of the road, a cabana, a covered breezeway and three patios, so eight people can spread out without being on top of one another. Two outdoor showers, which sound like a small thing until you come back from the beach.
What it is not: new, minimal or hotel like. Nothing here has been renovated into anonymity.
