Rooster Cottage sits on an acre of land at the water's edge with a dock and mooring. The area is a quiet residential area within an easy bike ride to the town of Southwest Harbor (a little over 1/2 mile). There is a Marina not far down Shore Road (Manset Yacht Service) where there are nice boats for rent (I have never rented from them, but I've never heard any complaints). Mt. Desert Island offers virtually everything for land and sea. There is nowhere like it.
Keywords: “Rooster Cottage” is a new cottage in the Manset Village of Southwest Harbor. Large windows and a deck extending for two sides of the cottage offers magnificent vistas of the harbor and mountains plus a deep water dock and mooring (Advanced reservation and subject to quote).

This is our second visit to Rooster Cottage. The house is spacious and beautiful, with a cook’s kitchen, comfy beds and beautiful views across Southwest Harbor from the living room and upstairs bedrooms. Located away from the crowds of Bar Harbor, Rooster Cottage in the cute little village of Manset is near several sections of Acadia National Park on the the western half of Mt Desert Island and only half an hour from the stunning Park Loop Road. You can’t go wrong with this property.
Well equipped kitchen, great bathrooms, windows to watch activities the harbor, yet quiet enough to watch the rain approach and pass by. The deck was great both sun and shade available! We had a lovely time
This house was even better than the photos indicated. It has beautiful common spaces downstairs, and we appreciated the two en-suite king bedrooms upstairs. (Our group included two adult couples.) We loved sitting on the deck and watching the boats come and go in the harbor!
Great view over Southwest Harbor. Quiet and off the beaten path, but close enough to town to zip in for a meal at one of several excellent restaurants. Another good eating place is a short stroll away. There are nice walks in the Acadia National Park Seawall area close by. Flying Mountain trail, a 10 minute drive from the house is another of our favorites.
There are 4 good lobster pounds within a 10 minute drive!
We enjoyed using the fireplace on foggy evenings. The 2 king bedrooms with en-suite baths are spacious, comfortable & well ventilated. We found the kitchen & dining area nicely equipped for 4-6 people. We also loved the dock.
The owners respond promptly to any questions or requests for repairs. Highly recommend.
Beautiful home well cared for. Great views, and very clean and maintained.
My only negative is the kitchen needs more pans and utensils for someone who likes to cook.
Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Beautiful vacation home! Great location right on the harbor. The kids enjoyed the yard and it was an easy drive to Bar Harbor and all the top spots in Acadia. Very clean, spacious. We recommmend.
Rooster Cottage was the perfect place for our COVID-delayed trip to Acadia. It was spotlessly clean, and the two suite bedrooms upstairs served our needs to a tee. Sunrises over the harbor were gorgeous, and we loved taking walks in the evening around the neighborhood. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
This property was absolutely more than we could have hoped for. The views, spectacular, the owner, extremely accommodating. If we didn't have plans to do other things while in Maine, I would have been delighted with a good book and a cup of tea on the porch, watching the tides and the boats. Thank you to the owner for opening up this lovely home for us to enjoy.
Very clean and spacious, big windows with great ocean views! Nice furnishings and artwork. Upstairs king size beds are very comfortable, but downstairs twins should be only for young kids. All beds have very nice cotton bedding and towels. Had fun biking alongside the shore, amazing trails and beaches nearby. Would definitely go again!
From the spectacular views of the ocean and mountains to the sparkling clean, thoughtfully furnished interior, Rooster Cottage exceeded our expectations. We hope to stay there again in the future!
Rooster Cottage is spacious, comfortable, and quiet. Located in the little hamlet of Manset, the cottage offers beautiful views across the working harbor at all times of day. Rooster Cottage is half an hour or so from the major attractions of Acadia National Park on the eastern side of the island, though there are several beautiful hikes just a few minutes away. We can highly recommend this property.
Five of us totally enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The deck overlooks the harbor, and we relished seeing the many moods of Maine. The owner was gracious and accommodating & Ronan the caretaker was responsive & helpful. We highly recommend this property.
My family of five adults stayed at rooster cottage for one week. The house was beautiful, neat and modern. There was plenty of space at the table and living room for everyone to be comfortable. The deck and deck view were our favorite.
We would definitely stay there again!
The view from the very spacious deck is fabulous. The house is open, airy, light, and comfortable. Bedrooms were spacious and more than accommodating. Can't wait to go back!
All I heard as my family members walked around the cottage was "Oh My God!" "Oh My God!" What a great home you built! The views are exceptional , the floors beautiful, and the dining room table is unbelievable. ( Who made it for you?) The location is perfect. We visited Southwest Harbor,Northwest Harbor. Bass Harbor, Bar Harbor, Acadia Loop, Schoodic Loop, Cadillac Mountain, Claremont Hotel, Seal Cove Auto Museum. I could go on but you can see we had an awesome time! We would highly recommend your cottage! Morgan thanks for a great vacation spot! John Noon
Absolutely a perfect setting away from the crowds of Bar Harbor but close enough to go to daily. Acadia National Park within 20 minutes. This home is lovely and has perfect views of the harbor from the bedrooms, family and dining room and wrap around deck. All the comforts of home. Highly recommend.
I absolutely LOVED my stay at the Rooster Cottage in Southwest Harbor, Maine. I stayed for a long time, a month, and I loved it. It is nice and quiet, and the views of the harbor are gorgeous. I could sit and look out the window, or sit on the back porch and just watch the harbor all day long. The house itself is gorgeous! I hope to stay here every year! I cant recommend it this place enough. It is about a 20-25 minute drive to Ellsworth, and about the same distance to Bar Harbor. I didn't care though! It suited me just fine. Did I say just how much I liked this place!
Perfect property to relax while hiking in Maine. Nice and quiet with amazing views. Loved the large porch and plenty of space to spread out. All new appliances and very clean. Would absolutely stay again.
This was a beautiful new home with two king suites - a rare find for two couples traveling together. The kitchen was well stocked with any tools needed to cook, although we took full advantage of the fantastic restaurants in the area. Our morning and evening rituals of enjoying the enormous deck, overlooking the harbor and all of its activity, will be greatly missed. Wonderful memories - we'd definitely return if given the chance.
The home was just as listed . Beautiful location . The home was perfect for the four of us . View from the deck was beautiful in morning and evening. Short drive to any location in Bar harbor and surrounding community but out of the hustle and bustle . We loved our week away . Beautiful home .
Spectacular setting, extraordinary home with all new furnishings, appliances and design in a locale ideally suited to take advantage of all the resources the island has to offer! We will be baaaack!

About the host

We have been coming to Mt. Desert Island since the 1980's and lived on the Island year round for nearly 6 years. After marrying in 2004 and having a child 2 years later (she's now 16) we now come up for the summer months to our main house in Southwest Harbor. We are active in the community and my wife is on the Board of Harbor House, the local Community Center. We are well known by both summer and year round residents.
Why they chose this property
Mt. Desert Island offers us a wonderful place to do the things we like. We sail, tennis, golf, swim in the lakes, hike and bike the hundreds of miles of trails and carriage roads that Acadia National Park (3/4 of Mt. Desert Island) maintains. This is our summer life and where we want our daughter to grow up during the summers. I have older children who also come up for extended stays.
What makes this property unique
This property is unique in that there is a deep water dock that will accommodate sailboats at mean low water and a mooring weighted for 40'+ boats. I have a 36' Morris sailboat drawing 5 feet and have occasionally left it at the dock overnight without any thought of it touching bottom. If you are concerned, call me and I will provide exact depths. Manset is a quiet village within the town of Southwest Harbor. The center of Southwest Harbor is a short bike ride from the house. Here you will truly get a taste of Maine in a modern setting.
