About this property

'Rooster Cottage' Harborside - Built New 2022

Rooster Cottage sits on an acre of land at the water's edge with a dock and mooring. The area is a quiet residential area within an easy bike ride to the town of Southwest Harbor (a little over 1/2 mile).
There is a Marina not far down Shore Road (Manset Yacht Service) where there are nice boats for rent (I have never rented from them, but I've never heard any complaints). Mt. Desert Island offers virtually everything for land and sea. There is nowhere like it.

Keywords: “Rooster Cottage” is a new cottage in the Manset Village of Southwest Harbor. Large windows and a deck extending for two sides of the cottage offers magnificent vistas of the harbor and mountains plus a deep water dock and mooring (Advanced reservation and subject to quote).

About the host

We have been coming to Mt. Desert Island since the 1980's and lived on the Island year round for nearly 6 years. After marrying in 2004 and having a child 2 years later (she's now 16) we now come up for the summer months to our main house in Southwest Harbor. We are active in the community and my wife is on the Board of Harbor House, the local Community Center. We are well known by both summer and year round residents.

Why they chose this property

Mt. Desert Island offers us a wonderful place to do the things we like. We sail, tennis, golf, swim in the lakes, hike and bike the hundreds of miles of trails and carriage roads that Acadia National Park (3/4 of Mt. Desert Island) maintains. This is our summer life and where we want our daughter to grow up during the summers. I have older children who also come up for extended stays.

What makes this property unique

This property is unique in that there is a deep water dock that will accommodate sailboats at mean low water and a mooring weighted for 40'+ boats. I have a 36' Morris sailboat drawing 5 feet and have occasionally left it at the dock overnight without any thought of it touching bottom. If you are concerned, call me and I will provide exact depths.
Manset is a quiet village within the town of Southwest Harbor. The center of Southwest Harbor is a short bike ride from the house. Here you will truly get a taste of Maine in a modern setting.
