A very well-appointed and laid out property that really suited our needs. The property manager did a great job giving us all of the information we needed. Great location. Well stocked for anything you need for the beach.
Excellent communication and photos were exactly as expected. Very clean and awesome location. It is a beautiful property with lush greenery and very quiet. Mahalo!

A nice unit, good size and a great view. Bonnie was great to deal with if we had an issue! The downside was that the area was noisy with the landscapers and traffic. There is no AC so the unit does get a bit warm in the afternoon, the shade on the lanai does help.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review, James. I’m truly pleased to hear you enjoyed the unit, the space, and the beautiful view, and it was a pleasure assisting you whenever anything came up.
My apologies for the unpredictable maintenance required to keep the beautiful tropical landscaping in top shape. I’m glad the lanai shades, along with the ceiling fans and portable fans in the unit, helped keep the space comfortable throughout the day.
Thanks again for sharing your experience. Your feedback means a lot.

Clean and welcoming. Loved hearing the birds constantly singing and the big balcony to sit and watch the sunset. Unit is a bit of a hike up several sets of stairs and around the back. No AC so had to keep that in mind. Had to open windows and use fans which gave way to some incredible food smells and some unwanted as well. Since everyone has their windows open you can hear things you don’t want to as well. However, for the price, and location it really wasn’t a big deal.
It's a very short drive to many popular places around town and it's secluded and things are quiet. The place is super clean, and has two bathrooms which is really nice. The only not-perfect thing was that the entrance to the parking lot was around a blind turn, but traffic was so low there it was never an issue
The condo was clean and so well stocked. It was spacious and Bonnie really thought of everything you could possibly need on vacation. The beach chairs were especially appreciated! Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Bonnie is absolutely the best VRBO property manager! The condo is amazing! The location is wonderful! The residents of the condominium complex are friendly and welcoming! My husband and I are already looking forward to next year's stay!
Property has great view to enjoy from Lanai. We were only there for 2 nights so didn’t get to take in all the area has to offer.

About the host
Hosted by Bonnie
We're a family of three based in Calgary, Alberta, with the Rockies as our backyard. Winters find us on the ski slopes, summers on the trails and bike paths. I'm an avid gardener, and when we're not outdoors, you'll find my husband deep in his internet rabbit holes. Our family recently grew by two — we fostered a rescued dog who surprised us with seven puppies, and we couldn't say goodbye to mom or one of her pups. They've been the best addition, keeping us active and well-walked!
Why they chose this property
We chose Keauhou for its perfect blend of safety, beauty, and tranquility: everything we were looking for as a Canadian family escaping Rocky Mountain winters with a young daughter. Above all, this is a very safe location, which gave us real peace of mind. There's history here, too: Keauhou (meaning "the new era") was a place of Hawaiian royalty and the birthplace of King Kamehameha III in 1814. The ocean views from this unit stopped us in our tracks, and the lush tropical gardens surrounding the complex sealed the deal. What makes it truly special is the community: a welcoming mix of vacationers and long-term residents who give the property a warm, neighbourhood feel. It's our peaceful home away from home.
What makes this property unique
Sunset Hale sits in one of the Big Island's most enviable spots: just steps from Keauhou Bay, where kayaks and outrigger canoes launch you straight into ocean adventure. Two beautiful beaches are minutes away: Kahaluʻu Beach Park, with calm snorkeling, gentle tide pools, and honu (sea turtles) basking on the sand; and Magic Sands, where boogie boarders chase the surf on white sand that famously vanishes into the sea each winter and returns with the calm.
As dusk falls, something magical happens: manta rays glide into Keauhou Bay to feed on plankton. Watch from the shoreline, sip a drink at the OUTRIGGER Kona Resort's oceanfront "Rays on the Bay," or join a night snorkel and float among them. Down the coast, Kealakekua Bay (Captain Cook Monument), Two Step, and Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau reward you with some of Hawaiʻi's finest snorkeling and living cultural history, and pods of spinner and bottlenose dolphins often greet early risers at sunrise.
In winter (December–April, peaking January–March), humpback whales gather just offshore. Catch their spouts and breaches right from your lanai, coffee in hand. The green fairways below are the Kona Country Club, open to the public, so you can play the very view you wake up to. Everyday comforts are close, too: Keauhou Shopping Center and two to three weekly farmers' markets (papayas year-round!) are only five minutes away.
And there's always more to discover: tour a Kona coffee or chocolate farm in the cool upcountry hills, wander historic Kailua-Kona town, or set off for Mauna Kea, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, cascading waterfalls, and beaches of white, black, and even green sand. On the right day you can stand atop snowy Mauna Kea in the morning and snorkel warm turquoise water by afternoon, then come home to sunsets that set the sky ablaze. The possibilities, like the views, are endless.
