This was one of the BEST experiences I’ve had at a VRBO. Bao was amazing to work with, the house was better than listed, and the neighborhood was central to everything we wanted. 10/10 HIGHLY recommend!
Property is as described. It is an older home, so its clean and comfortable, but does is not updated. Appliances are newer, yard fenced for the dog and two stall garage all nice. Owner could have some more information for the renter available.

Jeff is a great tenant who keeps the house very clean. I appreciate his suggestions and hope I can provide more information. Writing is challenging for me because my English is not very good. Thank you for your advice, and I hope to see you again.
This property is conveniently located near Mayo, the grocery and restaurants. It's a comfortable three-bedroom house with just about everything you would need. There were some basics missing, like a skillet, which I purchased and left behind for the next visitor. Instructions, i.e., how to operate the TV, garbage pick-up day and check-out details would have been helpful. It also took a bit to get the proper door code when checking in to the property.
The interior is a bit dated and the house faces a busy, main road but the noise level (including trains and ambulances) is manageable.
The owner is easy with which to work.

Worst VRBO experience
In a basic short summary:
I HAVE NOT SEEN Pictured Property.
I rented this property for scheduled brain surgery.
My rental date was late night 10/8/18 - 10/16/18.
An email was sent by owner on the evening of 10/7/18. I did not see the email until the morning of 10/8/18 (arrival day).
I was informed there was a “plumbing problem” at my rented/paid for property and was being moved to a “nicer, larger house”. I replied the importance of my family being comfortable and the house being clean with the scheduled brain surgery. I also reminded the owner that we would have a late arrival and our dog, so the late notice left no options for us. The owner stated she forgot about the dog and it would be an additional pet fee. In addition to the cleaning fee already paid.
We traveled 6 hours in unpleasant rains, arriving late night with a dog. When we arrived, our guts told us to drive by the original property I rented, which was literally on the next block of the same street. I was frustrated to see a car with Texas plates and lights on in the property. This house was occupied.
We went to the property we were moved to. This property is NOT a property that should be used for medical visits. Maybe a starting property for concert goers, etc.
The property was not clean, it is outdated and needs routine maintenance with deep cleaning. We supplied our own paper plates, did not use utensils, dishes, kitchen stove, etc. Shower tile bulge/ mold, etc.
I did contact owner by text upon our arrival. She did refund part of the original cleaning fee that was charged and waived the pet fee that was not originally charged. As well as stating it was her fault and offering a full refund if we chose not to stay (it was now after 11 p.m.)
We were left with no options at that point. The owner also offered a free ear wax candling, which is kind, however, it is not a compensation to be made in property management.
Outside of the statement that it was “her fault”, it was not ever addressed as to why someone else was in the property I originally booked and paid for.
We checked out of property early morning 10/14/18. After asking for early check-out, owner offered to refund 1 nights stay. I did ask for 2 night refund and it led to multiple texts of her not understanding. No energy/time with brain recovery. I do have pictures for VRBO.
I do believe this property could be a good investment with educated property manager/class (see review 12/2017)

Please give me the opportunity to explain:
Yes,
You booked the house have a plumbing problem,
The former tenants were moving out on October 7.
On 8th the Morning, the cleaners found that the basement the plumbing broken, I hired someone to repair it in the afternoon and cleaners went to clean in the night.
Because there had raining, the basement was humid,
I told you the reason, let you moved in another house on Oct 8th evening,
I saw your message in the Morning on 9th,
I urgently informed the cleaners to clean again but you did not let her to clean,
You said that would bother your dog,
I wanted to make you happy so I said that all was my mistake. I refunded you $100 and did not charge the pets cleaning fee $80.
Also I told you I would offer you free extra services but if you don't like this house, I would refund you the full amount.
On your choice, you would prefer stay.
You ended the hospital treatment and asked me to refund you two nights again, because you would leave earlier.
In order to make you happy, I agreed to refund one night, but you asked to return you two nights.
You booked for 8 nights, but you stayed for 6 nights and wanted to leave earlier. I already refunded you $180.
why? you want to refund you again and again,
I do not think it is fair to refund you 2 nights for your faults.
Yes, they are old houses, but clean and working well. Many people liked living there with much more convenience with them lovely pets.
I will improve it and hope to provide best service.

Nice house to stay
Some of the pictures are not up to date. Other than some different furniture arrangements house was very comfortable to stay. Clean and very comfortable beds. Had a little problem checking in, and due to early release from Mayo Hospital had to check out and leave 10 days early. Homeowner would not open up listing and show property as available. Paid for 10 days we weren’t there. Can’t always predict what the doctors and hospitals are going to do!!
Everything was just as listed. Place was nice and clean.

Very spacious and very laid back. Great communication!
We ended up getting moved to a larger house, which was very roomy and great for our whole family. Communication with the owner was great and always quick. Checkout was an absolute breeze. Overall, great experience. Will use in future if we need to come back to Mayo.

I think we were blindsided! Turned on lights and it wasn’t even the house we booked. Rundown & dirty
Please tell me how you can rent one home through VRBO, get THERE, and it’s not the house you rented. For this price, I fully expected to get what we paid for. The picture you have posted above is NOT the house we were placed in. This was fraudulent. I expected stainless steel appliances but arrrived to find a dishwasher that didn’t work, a dirty gas stove and microwave, standard refrigerator, and the home furnished with garage sale leftovers. NO FAMILY ROOM as promised either. The property manager, Bao, offered to show me the property we DID book so I met her there. In broken English she explained that she was confused and she double booked this house so she placed us in the other house which was bigger. We went in and I was uncomfortable because there were obviously people staying there as there were women’s underwear hanging on the shower rod, and clothes and food unpacked, and it appeared that folks were settled in for the long term. This house was so nice, yet she insisted the house she gave us was nicer! Really? She said “I gave you better house. This house not nice!” Well, I thought it was VERY NICE. I couldn’t even find the house she substituted on VRBO. And, my text messages to her clearly outlined that I was not at all happy. Days later, I found the house she substituted on VRBO. The photos are absolutely misleading and do not depict the true condition of the home. Additionally, there is a heating issue with this house. It is not properly vented and even with the vents turned off, it was still 82 degrees upstairs while the thermostat was set at 70. The bedroom upstairs was not useable. Additionally, there are little things that attracted us to the original house we selected. There was a crockpot shown in photos, so we planned meals around this convenient option. No crock pot either. And, the paint in the house has been slapped on the walls for the most part, except behind the toilet and wherever they thought you couldn’t see. So embarrassing when we hosted a game get together for patients staying over the Christmas holiday. The house has algae growing across the front, untrimmed bushes, and generally unkept.
I have actual pictures of the home we stayed in. There was nothing else available in close proximity to St. Mary’s Hospital so we were stuck. Please tell me where to send pics and the text conversation I had with Bao, the PM. We are looking into filing a complaint against VRBO and the property manager for fraudulent advertising.

I want to apologize again for the double booking because the house was on two different web sites, and I forgot to let you know beforehand. That was my mistake.
I know that you were very unhappy with the replacement house on the first night, therefore I suggested we see your originally booked house the next morning. I wish you would have told me that you still preferred to still stay in your originally booked house at that time. Because the first night I mentioned to you "If you still prefer the originally booked house you can move there the following day." The people who were staying in the house you originally booked were willing to move out the next day.
Also I thought you knew the Home Way policy "If you are not satisfied with the house that you stayed in, you can have a full refund." However, the impression I got from you is that you preferred to stay in the second house instead of your originally booked house. And that you were happy with the current arrangement.
During your 25 nights staying there, I wish you would have told me all the things you mentioned in this review. I always respond quickly and meet my renter's needs ( you can check my previous reviews). In this case if I knew you needed a slow cooker, I would have bought one to put in the house. I hope this will help you understand that I am not fraudulently advertising this house. I am honestly trying to provide a decent, clean, 4 bedroom house at a very affordable price.
I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience, but it seems like a miscommunication was the root cause of your less than satisfactory stay.

Not a fancy house but just right for coming home and spreading out after a long day at Mayo.
This was a great location for our week at Mayo. HiVe grocery and Walgreens across the street, green belt to walk, run and bike on behind the house, 20 minute walk to Mayo (pick up the subway at the Dan Abraham bldg.). So nice to be able to prepare our own meals. Owners responded quickly to any question we had.

This house (It was a substitute for the one we had reserved, a change necessitated by water issues at the original place) more than met our (my wife and me) needs while I was at Mayo for surgery. It is an older property but is in good shape. The kitchen, bedrooms, etc. were just what we needed for ourselves and visitors, and it was a great place to host our relatives as they came in and out of Rochester. Nearby shopping (including a grocery store) is convenient, and the house is only about a 15-20 minute walk (5 minute drive) to Mayo's facilities. Although the house is near a main drag, we were not bothered by traffic noise. Bao made sure that the house had all the amenities that were advertised, and she was very accommodating as our schedule changed. She is not totally fluent in English, but can carry out a conversation and does well with text messages.

About the host
Hosted by Bao Fan
Hello! I’m originally from China and have been living in Rochester, Minnesota for 16 years — it has truly become my second home. I’ve been hosting and renting properties here for the past 11 years, and I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the world.
I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and take pride in providing a clean, comfortable, and welcoming space for everyone.
I’m also a big animal lover and have two adorable dogs of my own. I understand how much pets mean to their owners — they’re more than companions, they’re family. That’s why I gladly welcome guests traveling with pets, and I hope my home can feel like a second home for both you and your furry friend.
In the past, I struggled a lot because my English isn’t very good. I often had trouble communicating with guests, and sometimes that led to misunderstandings. It was painful — not because I didn’t care, but because I couldn’t find the right words to express myself. My heart has always been warm and open, but I often felt frustrated and even discouraged when I couldn’t connect the way I wanted to.
Why they chose this property
I chose this home because of its convenient location for guests visiting the Mayo Clinic. Since the platform asked me to select a neighborhood, I simply chose this one—because it truly works well for most guests coming to Mayo for treatment, checkups, or to accompany a loved one. It’s about a 15-minute walk to Mayo’s and to St. Mary’s Hospital, or just about a 5-minute drive.
The home is also close to a quiet neighborhood park and a shopping area. Guests can easily take a walk, grab groceries, or simply relax nearby.
One of the things I especially like about this house is the layout. The main floor includes three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room, with all living spaces located on the main level. Getting into the house only requires stepping up one or two small steps, which makes it convenient and safe.
The home also has a fully fenced backyard, which is very practical for guests traveling with pets — they can safely enjoy the outdoors. Although the yard doesn’t have a deck, there’s a small area near the garage where guests can sit and relax, get some fresh air, or walk their dogs. It’s a simple but useful space.
What I feel most grateful for is having such kind and thoughtful neighbors — Becky and Paul. They often help me mow the lawn, take out the trash, and occasionally keep an eye on the house when I’m away. Becky even bakes delicious treats to share with the neighborhood. Their warmth and generosity are part of what makes this community so special to me.
What makes this property unique
What makes our property truly unique is its unbeatable location and thoughtful design. Just a short walk away, you’ll find Kutzky Park — a peaceful, green space perfect for walking, relaxing, or spending time with your pets. The home is also within walking distance to Hy-Vee supermarket, Walgreens, restaurants, and banks, which makes daily errands incredibly easy without needing to drive. Plus, both Mayo Clinic and St. Mary’s Hospital are just a 15-minute walk or a quick 5-minute drive away, which is ideal for patients and families seeking nearby care. The layout of the home — three bedrooms and a bathroom all on the main floor — is especially convenient for those recovering from surgery. We also welcome pets, with a fenced backyard that allows them to play safely. This combination of comfort, convenience, and location is what sets our home apart.
