Clean house that has been thoughtfully built and decorated- good for a family or intimate friends trip! Went with our friends, their two kids (3 and 2 y/o) and our two dogs. Didn’t even need to go somewhere to play in the snow- lots of options in the front and side yard. We used the grill and had a nice staycation. All amenities were as stated and the kids enjoyed the toys the rental provided! After a day in the snow.. it was nice to curl up by the fire and warm up. One tip.. if going with kids or older dogs who can’t be around stairs, bring two sets of barrier /baby gate that’s about 3 feet wide to block off the stairs, as it’s a 3 level house.Hope to stay again! Thank you ;)
The chalet's location is excellent, and the property itself is wonderful. It was impeccably clean, with everything provided for a comfortable stay. We encountered a minor issue with a kitchen appliance, but it was resolved within hours. The property is well maintained, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fantastic place to stay. 5 stars!!
Very Nice place, nice location, everything looks exactly as posted, only one isue, when I got there the trash can outside was full, other than that, very satisfied
We so enjoyed our stay! House is clean, incredibly well stocked with every appliance and cooking device you could imagine, great dishes/glasses/literally everything you would need in the kitchen. Well designed home, bright and comfortable. I would probably say not the best house for small children or elderly due to steep stairs, but perfect for older kids/adults/dogs! Thank you for a great stay, we loved it!

As promised
Really pretty the sheets could be newer. More trash bags, trash outside should be empty. Bathroom faucets were not clean . The home was lovely just some notes, to improve future visits .
The property was exceptional and was the perfect place for our Thanksgiving holiday week. Our teens loved having their own area to play games and watch movies, while mom and dad enjoyed plenty of privacy, an occasional steam, and LOTS of cooking in the well-appointed kitchen. We made bread with the breadmaker, smoothies with the blender, waffles with the waffle maker, a big turkey in the oven and even some ice cream with the provided ice cream maker.
We also enjoyed watching the wildlife outside the big windows, including a wily coyote and a smaller bear that cruised the back fence one day...
Thank you to the owners for opening their home and sharing all the wonderful amenities. We hope to be back again!
We arrived to find a lot of snow after the big storm, the road “ pebble beach” wasn’t in good shape and if you didn’t have 4wd you weren’t getting in there period. Fed ex truck was stuck for more than 4 hours blocking one direction of the road. The house was clean and the kitchen was very well stocked with everything you need, the only thing in the kitchen is that there is no pantry space to put your things away and all cupboard were full of things including 2 full drawers of pet stuff. Overall it was nice, might be a bit to modern when it came to bathrooms etc.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Shining Shire with just a few recommendations for improvement. On the plus side this is a great house for adults and teens with a poker table, x-box, many board games, and a varied movie library. Although the listing says the projector wasn't working we found that it did work and enjoyed movies in the evening after a game of poker and board games. We also enjoyed the extras like the Sauna, Bidet, Towel Warmer and Steam Shower. The location is great for riding bikes, getting to the best of Tahoe within 10-15 minutes, and we even spent an afternoon at the nearby Upper Truckee River. There is enough parking for vehicles.
Areas of Improvement: 1. It is a pet friendly home, which we appreciated, bringing our dog, but there was an old urine odor in some of the sitting areas. This was reported to the management and they said they would notify the caretakers. 2. The coffee pot is very small. You might want to bring your own if you have more than two coffee drinkers. 3. We couldn’t find pot holders and there were some remotes that didn’t have working batteries.
There is no air conditioning, which is common for Tahoe homes. This is more of information for future renters than recommendation for improvement. The men in our group were hot at night even with fans. If you run hot you might want to be aware.
Finally be aware that there are three levels to this home with wooden stairs. It is not a good booking for anyone with mobility issues.
The only issue we had with this property was the ice on the driveway when we arrived, which rendered the driveway inoperable. We spent about an hour chipping away at the ice so that we could drive on it to get into the garage and unload our all wheel drive vehicle. We let the management company know what was going on, and within an hour a young man came to the property and poured rock salt like stuff on the driveway, which probably prevented additional ice issues overnight. However, the property manager (Lana) was awesome, as she went out of her way to make sure all of the ice was removed the next day, and we never had another issue with the driveway. Much gratitude to Lana for her efforts--she was a real pro and an pleasure to deal with!
The house was beautiful and in a great location. Only thing to be that was a bit of an “issue” for us was the 2 flights of stairs, especially with a 2 year old running around. More of a personal issue, but we just needed to keep an extra eye out for our daughter making sure she wasn’t climbing up and down so she wouldn’t fall. Just an FYI for people with little kids. Overall though, it was an amazing stay, would definitely love to come back
Our family had a great stay. We cooked, played games and had wonderful conversations. It was also a great location. We also enjoyed the modern accommodations like the sauna. I just wish the beds were a little bit more comfortable. We all felt that the mattress was sagging.
Overall it’s a wonderful home! Thank you.
Loved the fact that we could walk/ride down the street, cross over 50 and get onto the beutiful bike path that heads over and down Sawmill Rd to South Lake. Also, the neighborhood is nice for walking the dogs (recommend going up to Skyline) and pretty darn quiet. The stairs at the house do suck, but everything else makes up for them so don't sweat it too much. Also, the Truckee river is about a 10 minute walk from the house so it was great for swimming the dogs in the hot summer weather!
This house is just so beautiful! Overall it was a great place to stay. Every area of the house felt very homey. My nephews and nieces (ages 5 & up) enjoyed the movie room very much, it's very cozy and you'll immediately feel at home. Also loved the fact that there were board games for the kids, and nice hyper surround system for playing background music. Loved the high ceiling feature too! No issues with our stay, did not have to contact property management. I guess if anything, just a deep clean of the house is needed for some dusty beams and kitchen fan. Other than that, we'd love to be back next time!
When searching properties for our week-long stay in Lake Tahoe we didn't want to feel like we were staying in a house, but rather that we were staying in a cabin in the woods. This property hit the spot, albeit a luxurious cabin in the woods. True, there was some dust but it could mainly only be seen from the third floor bedroom loft as the dust was on top of the higher beams. The furniture is no longer new but shows the expected wear from being lived in by various visitors over the years. Still, much better than can be expected. When we arrived a worker was just leaving and alerted us that the lights in the third-floor bedroom loft were not working. They weren't. But the accompanying bathroom lights worked and the lights from the adjacent vaulted living area provided enough light for us to get through that first night. The worker returned the next day while we were out and fixed the problem so, not a big deal. The dishwasher also did not work that first night and we called in to report it. The next day a crew arrived to remove the old dishwasher and replace it with a brand new one. We had read in a previous review that the dishwasher was broken so I'm sure this new one was ordered a while ago. We're glad the new one was installed just in time for us to use it while we were there. The BBQ out on the deck worked just fine. It's actually newer than the gas-powered old one I've used at home for many years. The only other thing I should note is that there are so many remote controls around the electronics that it was difficult figuring out how things worked. Other than that, our family of six adults enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. It served as an excellent home base as we travelled to and from our scheduled daily activities and proved to be quiet and peaceful retreat as we decompressed in the evenings. I highly recommend this home.
