Cool mountain air drifts through the trees as you step onto the porch, the quiet broken only by the rustle of leaves and distant bird song. The scent of pine mixes with the faint hint of woodsmoke from the indoor fireplace, inviting you to unwind after a day on the trails. As evening settles, the hot tub steams invitingly under a sky dusted with stars, while the fire pit crackles, offering a perfect spot for s’mores and conversation.

Comfortable seating surrounds the indoor fireplace, creating a natural gathering point for board games, movie nights on the Smart TV, or quiet chats. Central heating keeps the space warm and inviting throughout cooler weather.

Outdoor living
Step onto the spacious deck and patio to breathe in fresh mountain air. String lighting adds a soft glow after sunset, and the fire pit offers a cozy spot for evening gatherings. The hot tub is available year‑round, especially inviting on crisp nights. An outdoor seating area and BBQ grill let you enjoy the surroundings when the weather permits.
Family and pet‑friendly touches
The home welcomes pets, with a clear note that cats are not allowed due to allergies. Children’s books, toys, dinnerware, and board games are provided, making it easy for families to settle in. A private entrance and generous outdoor space add comfort for little ones and four‑legged companions.
Location & surroundings
Nestled in Rio, West Virginia, the cabin sits about 10 minutes from Bryce Resort and within easy driving distance of state parks, scenic trails, and nearby mountain towns. Winter visitors enjoy peaceful drives and nearby hiking, while the quiet charm of the region remains uncrowded year‑round.
Good to know
Wi‑Fi is included and works well for streaming and video calls, though speeds may vary due to the remote mountain setting. The natural environment means you may notice leaves, pollen, or other outdoor elements on decks and walkways, especially in certain seasons.

About the host
Hosted by Tony Cappaert
I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.
What makes this property unique
We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Red Feather Cottage in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cottage is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
