About this property
The Philosopher's Retreat
Step into a different rhythm—just two hours from DC. Enjoy 8 private acres with art-filled walking trails, a quaint vineyard, and total tranquility.
Watch stars by the firepit, sip coffee on the porch hammock, or dive into a curated library of travel, philosophy, and adventure. A perfect retreat for writers, dreamers, and those craving deep rest.
The main level of the cabin features a spacious great room with a full kitchen, cozy living area, and dining space — ideal for relaxing or entertaining. The private bedroom includes a king-sized bed and opens to a quiet outdoor deck. A spa-like bathroom offers a large walk-in shower and vanity with forest views, a separately enclosed toilet and sink, and an adjoining guest closet for added convenience.
Upstairs, a loft with a queen-sized bed and canvas tenting provides a cozy, semi-private sleeping space. Please note the loft has limited head height, and is best suited for sleeping or lounging.
The living room opens to a screened porch with a loveseat, hammock, and dining table for six. Stairs lead down to a forest-ringed firepit, perfect for evening gatherings. There’s also an additional deck off the main house with a gas BBQ — ideal for outdoor cooking and soaking in the natural surroundings.
The entire home and 8 acres are yours to explore!
Please Note: There is no TV in the cabin, encouraging guests to fully disconnect and enjoy the peaceful setting. Starlink internet is available and works well for streaming movies, browsing, and casual use. However, speeds can vary, and it may not always support uninterrupted video conferencing.
Occasional power outages are part of the rustic charm during stormy seasons. If the lights go out, you’ll find a headlamp by the rear door and candles ready to glow. Just another excuse to unplug, slow down, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the forest.

Why they chose this property
Tucked in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands, Wardensville and Lost River offer the perfect blend of natural beauty, creative energy, and quiet escape. Just two hours from D.C., this peaceful corner of the state is a favorite for hikers, artists, and anyone craving a break from the ordinary.
As you arrive at our Hollow, a gravel road follows a winding creek into the forest, gradually leading you away from the world and into the stillness of nature. The sound of flowing water and rustling trees sets the tone—you're somewhere special.
Outdoor lovers can explore nearby hikes like Big Schloss and White Rocks, or venture into Lost River State Park with its scenic overlooks, horseback trails, and the panoramic Cranny Crow summit. Enjoy swimming or kayaking at Trout Pond or Warden Lake, and take in the area's dark skies with brilliant stargazing.
Wardensville’s downtown features locally owned shops, art galleries, and the beloved Mack's Bingo Kitchen. The Wardensville Garden Market and Lost River Trading Post showcase regional crafts, farm-to-table foods, and handmade goods.
Seasonal festivals, bluegrass events in historic barns, and charming roadside farm stands make this area feel both timeless and alive with culture. Whether you're here to hike, unplug, or find creative inspiration, the Lost River Valley invites you to slow down and reconnect.
