About this property
☆Betty’s Bungalow: Retro Redesign on the bus line☆
Check out the Mid-Century Modern decor in this redesigned ranch style home! Filled with a blend of old and new our home includes refinished furniture, custom artwork, and a vintage style you won’t find anywhere else. We’ve remodeled this 1963 time capsule, adding our own personal style to create an experience for you to enjoy! We have everything you need to feel at home. Located in a quiet neighborhood at the center of the city, our listing is on the bus line and close to downtown and Hwy 52.
We purchased this 1963, mid-century home from family friends, and were so happy to restore this outdated rambler. Although we have tried to remain true to mid-century style, much of the house is new! Renovations have included all new appliances, new countertops, kitchen redesign, new flooring, new light fixtures, new window treatments, new shower, new exterior doors, full interior and exterior painting, and all new or refurbished furnishings! If we don't say so ourselves, this place has so much character, and it looks awesome! Maybe mid-century modern is your thing, or maybe it would be fun to try a new style on during your vacation! We were very fortunate to have the whole family involved as we renovated our space.
Emily’s dad was the main carpenter, and Emily’s mom the main painter. Alex’s parents made many weekend trips from Wisconsin to offer a hand.
Being away from home for appointments, surgeries, or even school and internships can be stressful. We hope that our home provides a space to relax and restore your body and soul. We have incorporated art pieces, trinkets, and books to offer peace, positivity and hope to all who enter. Treat our home as your own.
Other amenities include: Roku with Netflix, board games, books, extra blankets, Keurig and large coffee pot.
Guest access
The entire house is yours to enjoy including full kitchen, dining and living areas. Laundry is located in the basement. Weather permitting, enjoy the backyard! Our attached garage is available for your convenience during your stay!
Guest interaction
We live approximately 2 miles from the property and are available in the evenings if needed. We work at the clinic during the day, but texting is a great option for quick questions or issues! We enjoy interacting with guests, but will certainly give you your privacy. If you are staying longer than a week we like to prepare dinner one night for you! We also have retired family members in town who can help out in a pinch!
Neighborhood overview
Located in a quiet neighborhood northwest Rochester, it is a great central location. Just 2-3 miles from Mayo Clinic. The city bus picks up on the corner - about 5 houses down! Quick access to Highway 52 offers a gateway to shopping and restaurants. Bike and walking trails are within 2 blocks.
Getting around
Bring a car and park in our attached garage, hop on the city bus, or grab an Uber. For those with medical conditions or disabilities there is a transport service in town. We can provide you with other personalized details upon contact.

About the host
Hosted by Alex and Emily Schmitt
We are newlyweds living and loving in the Med City. Emily is a practicing Occupational Therapist at Mayo Clinic, and Alex just graduated from Physician Assistant school. We met at Lawrence University, where we both attended college.
Our favorite things include...
1. Goldendoodles - talk doodle to us, and we'll be fast friends :) We adore our one-year-old pup, Rory. We now have a recent addition of a new puppy Poppy!
2. Good food - Indian and Thai are two of our favorites, but we'll never turn down a good pizza. (anything really...) We like food.
3. Yoga - we love practicing yoga at home! Wanna start? We can share some of our favorite YouTube channels with you!
4. Board Games - the nerdy kind... the ones most people have never heard of... Terra Mystica, Lords of Waterdeep, or Pandemic to name a few! But if you're nice, we may even play the classics with you!
5. Walking/hiking - whether simply walking our neighborhood, hitting the local trails, or hiking Devil's Lake in Wisconsin, we enjoy getting out in nature. Our puppies come too, of course!
We value meeting and developing new relationships with those who come through our doors. Our mission is to treat you as if you were our own family! You can learn more about us at DharmaDwellings!

Why they chose this property
We love the Med City, and we're excited to share it's unique attractions with you! Emily has a passion for design, and Alex has an interest in real estate and remodeling. We both spent a little too much time watching HGTV with our parents while growing up, which helped us prepare for this venture to create unique spaces to share with others. Emily first considered short-term rentals when she began working with transplant patients, who are required to stay in town for several weeks after surgery. Now, we're excited to bring the comfortable and unique space of Betty's Bungalow to you!
