About this property
Gold Fox Lodge - Romantic Riverfront Log Cabin - A Piece of Michigan History!
Gold Fox Lodge is an enchanting, historic, luxury, 4-season, riverside log cabin with an amazing riverfront setting. The decor, furnishings and atmosphere are simply magical. Recline with your favorite cup of coffee or glass of wine beneath towering century-old cedar and pine trees while taking in the awe of the river, wildlife and romantic cascading waterfall.
Let us spoil you in this 3 bedroom, 1 bath log cabin that offers amazing upscale comforts in a rare and historic north woods romantic atmosphere. Enjoy the cozy great room layout with its leather recliners and massive stone fireplace and amber-aged logs. The kitchen and bathroom have been tastefully updated, maintaining the historic charm of the log cabin while integrating luxury touches. The sunroom overlooking the river even has heated tile floors to keep your feet cozy all year.
No matter the season, the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic getaway, anniversary, birthday, honeymoon, or intimate family vacation.
The cabin sits in a secluded river location on Big Creek river with 10 private acres and is for your exclusive use.
One very special treat is an old fashioned 18 hole miniature golf course that was built decades ago by a former owner. The stone-lined course winds through the forest and is sure to make a lasting impression on children and adults alike.
You will simply want for nothing as everything you could possibly need is provided for your comfort including all of your kitchen and cooking needs, luxury bedding, linens, and towels.
In the warmer months common outdoor activities in the region include fishing, hiking, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, tubing, golfing, ATV trail riding, and horseback riding.
In the winter months things don't slow down as the temperatures, snowfall, and terrain make an ideal winter wonderland. The area has many maintained trails for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in addition to tubing and downhill skiing within a short drive. If you just want to stay warm, the indoor cozy fireplace setting and sunroom view of the river and wildlife year round will not disappoint.
The area is rich with outfitters supporting your canoe, kayak, tube, ATV, snowmobile, horseback, skiing, and fishing interests.
We have a caretaker and cleaning staff that live within minutes of the cabin - and can help with virtually any problem. Just prior to your arrival we will send you the electronic door lock code so that you can walk right in when you arrive.
Besides having plentiful trout and wildlife to entertain you right outside your back door - you're also only minutes from the famous AuSable River - home of the "Holy Waters".
Fly fishing enthusiasts have long considered the Au Sable region as a must visit destination. As chronicled in "Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die" you'll quickly appreciate the romance of this region. Experience the nearby Holy Waters, Masons Tract of the South Branch, North Branch of the AuSable, and Mio Trophy Water. In fact, it was the beauty of this region and quality of trout fishing that led to the formation of our nation's first Trout Unlimited chapter in 1959 by Au Sable river anglers. Big Creek river - flows into the AuSable just three miles downstream. Big Creek, being a tributary to the AuSable, is even considered by many to rival, the fishing on the AuSable.
We also love to help our guests plan their visit to the area and provide an area activities guide that contains key information on things to do in the area including all outdoor resources you may need and recommended restaurants and other resources in the region.
Getting to the cabin is easy in all seasons for all vehicles. The Michigan roads in this region are well maintained year round. The access road to the cabin is also maintained year round catering to 2WD vehicles. We also have a Generac standby, whole house, generator - so you never need to worry about losing power in a storm.
If our calendar is full - please check out our sister lodge, "Copper Fox Lodge", just 3 miles away on the AuSable River, VRBO #_________

About the host
Hosted by Landon and Holly Dunn
“Do you smell that? The air is cleaner up here!” Landon’s grandfather would say as they crossed into northern Michigan. Now, Landon, his wife Holly, and their boys, Oliver and Elliot, carry on the tradition—fishing, hiking, and unplugging together. In 2025, they discovered Gold Fox Lodge and knew it was meant to be shared. Surrounded by old growth trees, crystal clear rivers, and peace, it’s a place to slow down and reconnect. Welcome to Gold Fox Lodge—may you love it as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
Gorgeous vintage log cabin. A cozy stone fireplace. A cascading waterfall view.
Towering century-old pine and cedar trees. A trout stream teeming with fish. Located in the heart of the Huron National Forest. Close to everything in the AuSable River region. What's not to love. An atmosphere few people ever experience. We love blessing others and ultimately our greatest desire is that you have the most memorable vacation possible.
