Share an unforgettable getaway at this custom-built, modern Mendocino vacation rental. Aptly dubbed Whale Song, this remarkable home overlooks the ocean. It even has a private, oceanfront hot tub.



Perched on a lush hillside, this unique Northern California Coast lodge is close to area attractions. Just five miles away is Russian Gulch State Park for a scenic hike to a 36-foot high waterfall. The Devil's Punch Bowl, a large collapsed sea cave with churning water, is nearby too. Bike to Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and Caspar Beach - it’s all close to home.



At the rental, you’ll have everything you need to relax as you wish. Whip up a delightful meal in the fully stocked kitchen then curl up by the fireplace. Or, stay up and watch TV while everyone else goes to bed.



In the master bedrooms, you’ll have a spacious king-size bed. In the second bedroom is a queen-sized bed, and in the third bedroom a twin. Every bedroom has an ocean view and access to a private deck!



After a day hiking among the breathtaking coastal vistas of Mendocino, make sure to rejuvenate in the hot tub. While that’s going on, toss your clothes in the private washer and dryer. It’s all about a carefree vacation.

View of the ocean from all the bedrooms was so good! Balcony on each room also. House was very comfortable and cozy. We will be back again. It was perfect for our family of 6. The host was very responsive, if needed.

A lovely home in an ideal location, for anyone wanting a peaceful stay along the coast, with plenty to do and see in nearby Mendocino. Great views of, and breezes from, the Pacific, and it's hard to beat relaxing in the hot tub under the stars at night. Our group of four had a delightful get-together and would definitely come back!

Fabulous place to stay! Clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The ocean views are stunning from almost every room in the house. Its super quiet and convenient to both Mendocino and Ft. Bragg. The host is very responsive and helpful. We will be happy to stay here again during our next trip to the coast!

The house is clean and comfortable, and the kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans, and appliances, all in good condition. The view of the water is very nice. The WiFi worked well, but the TV didn’t work for us, and, although the host was responsive, we didn’t want to wait around for a fix. Also, the garage door doesn’t open, so you can’t really use the garage.

The pluses:The kitchen is nicely outfitted with the usual basics. (No coffee or sugar). The stove is a nice gas stove, plenty of counter space. The view is beautiful and the jacuzzi was hot! The rooms are spacious and the value for this vacation home is good.The neighbors are close by but the decks and jacuzzi feel private.The fireplace was nice and plenty of firewood available in the garage. Thank you.The location is close enough to quaint town of Mendocino, and a bit north so access to Fort Bragg is also good. The negatives:The listing should disclose that the driveway is very steep and hard or even impossible to negotiate. Also that street parking is limited, and requires walking up and down a very steep driveway. Fortunately, we are able bodied and could carry luggage and push bicycles up and down the very steep driveway.We also found the electronic key access to be wonky, and difficult to operate. My very bright teen could not push the buttons properly to unlock the door, even after multiple attempts. Very frustrating. It is a very old design with a very long (9 digit!) code that was impossible to memorize. Had to hide a note under the doormat with the code to avoid getting locked out.The home was very hot on arrival due to the unusually sunny weather, and the otherwise fabulous West facing windows which were all closed. Would have preferred to have the sun screens rolled down and some windows opened before we arrived.

The advertisement for this property is deceiving. The driveway is a steep drop down with no room to turn around at the bottom. They advertise garage parking but the garage was full of firewood. In addition, the garage door did not work. The hosts sent someone to fix it the next day. We needed to open the door to make it easier to turn around at the bottom of the driveway. After the first day, we decided to back down the driveway to make it easier to get out. We had a small car, Camry, can't imagine having a big SUV or truck. The home was clean but it is very dated and needs some windows replaced, they are so cloudy you cannot see through them. The wooden decks could definitely use some maintenance. The view of the ocean from each of the rooms is spectacular. We had an issue with the television, repeatedly getting a screen that displayed "no service". When we called about it, a young lady said that she would come to the house to see if she could fix it. She did get it going and left it on for us. We left it on 24/7 while we were there. When I mentioned to the hosts there were no instructions for the tv and the three remotes that were there, they came back with "the tv is a standard tv and does not require any instructions". Not very helpful, thank you!The location was perfect for what we needed. Would we stay there again? Maybe.

The stay at the Whale Song Home was very very nice.The entire Home was just beautiful and very clean , the only issue was the door code lock at times didn't work , I reached out and got help but the issue did continue till the end of stay , the home and view and amenities made up for that however.Loved the home and would stay again.

This vacation home is in a beautiful setting with a nice ocean view. The home itself is a nice Northern California Coast design. High ceilings and lots of windows. Some of the windows are failed however so block the ocean view. The interior of the home is outdated and a bit worn and while not immaculate it is clean. The kitchen is nice! Open and airy with lots of light from the newer windows there that give a nice view of the ocean. There is plenty of dinner and cookware and every item you might need in the kitchen. Appliances look to be new and in good working order. Nice deck facing the ocean but only one plastic chair and a picnic table. We were lucky that we were only two of us and brought our own camp chairs. We thought that a house that sleeps six should have enough chairs. Nice sitting out there and great star gazing on clear nights. There is no shade though so can get really hot on sunny days. A deck umbrella or awning is really needed. The hot tub is nice but the lid must be replaced. It’s badly broken and very difficult to get back on. We could tell that it’s been broken for some time. The home was really too big for just us two but the price was right at the time and the location is great.
