About this property

Casa Lita – Colorful Historic Home in the Railyard

Welcome to Casa Lita — named after the Spanish word for “grandmother” (Abuelita). We wanted every guest to feel like they’re staying at a beloved family home that’s been lived in and loved for generations.

This historic house was designed by two longtime Santa Fe best friends who’ve been part of the local art scene for over 20 years. You’ll see their creative touch in the bright colors, comfortable furniture, and little details that make the house feel personal and welcoming. With its original 100-year-old wood floors and lived-in charm, Casa Lita is a place where you can truly relax.

We designed this home with families in mind. You’ll find cozy reading nooks, books, toys, games, and plenty of comfortable spaces for kids to play and unwind. It comfortably sleeps larger groups while still feeling like a real house rather than a showroom.

Location
You’re in the historic Railyard District — walk to more than 50 restaurants, shops, galleries, the Farmers Market, and the Rail Runner. It’s lively when you want it to be, and quiet when you don’t.

About the host

Hosted by Charlotte Fox

Host profile image
Hi, I’m Charlotte — a homegrown Santa Fean, mom of three small kiddos, and an avid gardener. I spent years as an actress, including playing Roxie in Chicago on Broadway and becoming the first foreigner cast in a leading role in Japan’s beloved morning drama Massan. It was there that I met my husband, and after five wonderful years living in Japan we moved back to my hometown to raise our young family.

With the love and help of my family, we’ve grown Casa de Huerto Properties into a small collection of historic homes we truly care for. What started as a way to share our beautiful city has become so much more — a way to sustain our life here and stay rooted in Santa Fe, the place we love most. We pour that same care into every stay, treating guests like family and hoping you’ll feel right at home.

Why they chose this property

This is the kind of house that feels like it already knows how to welcome people. It’s colorful and full of life, but also relaxed and comfortable — the perfect mix for families or groups who just want to enjoy Santa Fe without anything feeling too formal.

Casa Lita was lovingly brought back to life by two longtime Santa Fe mothers who poured their hearts into restoring a property that was quite dilapidated when they first bought it. Drawing on their own experiences traveling with little ones, they designed and built every detail with families in mind — making sure the space feels dynamic, fun, magical, and safe. You’ll find thoughtful touches and baby amenities everywhere, from practical gear to cozy nooks that make traveling with children so much easier.

The home reflects the true spirit of Santa Fe’s “City Different” — a place where new, interesting, and beautiful things come together in the most welcoming way. We’re proud to support small, local, family-run businesses throughout Santa Fe, and the house itself was designed by two homegrown Santa Fean artists who’ve been active in the local art scene for over twenty years. Their creative fingerprints are all over the colorful, personal details that make guests feel like part of the community rather than just visitors.

You’re also just literal steps away from a great local coffee shop if you don’t feel like brewing your own in the morning — one more way the location makes life easy and connected while you’re here.

At the end of the day, Casa Lita is more than a rental. It’s a restored historic home filled with warmth, character, and the kind of care that only comes from people who truly love this city and the families who visit it.

What makes this property unique

Prime Central Location with Space to Breathe: One of the rare large historic properties right in the heart of the Railyard District. You’re steps from morning coffee, over 50 restaurants, shops, galleries, the Farmers Market, and historic sites — yet the property itself feels spacious and private.

A True Piece of Santa Fe History: This 100-year-old home has original wood floors and authentic character that’s been lovingly restored. It’s a living piece of the “City Different” rather than a generic rental.

Built for Real Families: Designed by two Santa Fe moms who know the joys and challenges of traveling with children. You’ll find thoughtful baby and kid amenities, cozy reading nooks, toys, games, and plenty of safe, whimsical spaces for little ones to explore and play.

Colorful, Whimsical & Practical: Bright, joyful colors and artistic details make the house feel fun and magical, while everything is still comfortable, durable, and easy to live in. It strikes that perfect balance — beautiful without being precious.

Convenient Parking: Off-street parking for 2–3 vehicles — a big bonus in a walkable downtown area where parking can be tricky.

Pet-Friendly & Welcoming: Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and the house has a lived-in, family feel with room for everyone to spread out.

Extra Touches: High-speed WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, lots of comfortable seating for groups, and the personal care of a small, local, family-run business that genuinely wants your stay to be special.

This combination — historic charm, central location, family-focused design, and easy practicality — is what makes Casa Lita stand out.
