The Story Behind Casa en Cibola

"Casa en Cibola" is named after the legendary Seven Cities of Cibola—the mythical cities of gold sought by Spanish explorers in the Southwest.
The home was created by Frank V. Ortiz, a 14th-generation Santa Fean who, after serving in World War II, pursued a distinguished career as a United States diplomat. During more than three decades of diplomatic service, he and his wife, Maria Dolores Ortiz Duke, lived throughout East Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Many of the furnishings, artwork, and decorative pieces found throughout the home were collected during their years abroad and carefully chosen for the dream home they eventually built in Santa Fe. Guests will discover unique artifacts, treasured family pieces, and personal touches throughout the property, including a bust of Ambassador Frank Ortiz in the library and a portrait of his mother, Margarita Ortiz Delgado.

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW:
To help you get settled, we provide a starter supply of toilet paper, facial tissues, paper towels, trash bags, dishwasher pods, and laundry detergent pods. Depending on the length of your stay and personal usage, you may need to purchase additional supplies.

We also provide bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, bath mats, and bed linens. This home is equipped with a washer and dryer, and you are welcome to wash these items as needed during your stay.

There is a small guest house on the property that has a full time tenant in it. It sits off of the courtyard to the main house but the tenant does not have access to using the courtyard and is very respectful in not bothering our guests that rent the main house.

This house does not have AC but there are floor fans in the bedrooms and with the windows slightly open you can catch a nice breeze.

We don't provide coffee or supplies for coffee.

Fireplace Season: October 15th through April 30th. Fireplace use may be restricted or suspended at any time due to local fire conditions, burn bans, maintenance requirements, or safety concerns.

We don't provide any of the items needed to build a fire in the fireplace. You can purchase these items or fire logs at one of our local grocery stores or drugstores.

Early check-in or late check out is subject to availability and may be arranged for an additional $50 fee.
