About this property
Gorgeous oceanfront Home overlooking Penobscot Bay , Castine Maine
Peregrine House is a beautiful air conditioned, three bedroom, three level home on the ocean in Castine, Maine. Castine is a historic, picturesque coastal town, known for its history as one of North America’s oldest European settlements. It is frequently ranked as a top small town to visit due to its charm, history and beauty. At the center of town, you’ll find a quaint village atmosphere, with unique shops, a grocery store, the town wharf, and sumptuous local cuisine. From golf and tennis, to sailing and kayaking, exploring Dyce Head Lighthouse, visiting a historic museum, seaside dining in the salt air, or attending a concert on the town pier, visitors of all ages will have a memorable family vacation or private getaway. We have had the distinct pleasure of hosting families from Paris Fr., Hong Kong, Australia, as well as numerous states here in the U.S.
As you enter the house on the main floor off the sun porch, the house is open concept with hardwood floors, a cathedral ceiling, a lovely white kitchen with granite counter tops, a spacious dining area which seats 8, a 3/4 bathroom with a large shower, a comfortable living room with a big sectional couch (perfect for an afternoon nap or a movie night with the family) and multiple windows on the water side to catch those breathtaking sunsets Castine is known for. Up the stairs in the center of the main floor lies the third floor balcony master bedroom, which has two queen sized beds, a full bath (with bathtub and shower combo) two dressers and a sitting area. This floor overlooks the living room space below, and features a bank of windows with stunning views of Penobscot Bay.
Down the stairs to the lower level of this home you’ll find two bedrooms, a full bath ( bathtub and shower combo) and a laundry room. One bedroom has a full sized bed, a large closet and a dresser and the second bedroom has a queen sized bed, a large closet and a dresser. Both bedrooms have large picture windows on the water side. This lower level opens onto the huge front lawn ( facing the ocean ) for games, dining, relaxing and family activities. A gas grill (gas provided) and patio set are in this area for your dining pleasure. We provide 2 cornhole boards, a fire pit, and kayaks for our guests.
Off the main floor, there are three separate doors leading to a large wraparound deck on the water side, perfect for dining and relaxing. At one end of this deck is an enclosed three season glass sunroom with comfortable seating so you can relax and enjoy the sunset. The circular driveway will hold five cars, and inside the garage are two bikes for touring Castine. There is a generator available if needed.

This is a wonderfully peaceful and comfortable home, with a truly amazing sunset view. An easy walk to Castine, the beach, and Hatch Cove Preserve. We had a great week here and hope to come back in the future.
We had a wonderful stay at the lovely Oceanfront Home overlooking Penobscot Bay. The house and deck and screened in porch was very comfortable for our family. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and the easy access to all that the area offers.

Very easy check in, kitchen clean. Lovely views, beach walks and sunsets. Castine is a quiet historic village. Take the golf cart historic tour. Housekeeping was mediocre to say the least.
This oceanfront home was the perfect landing spot for our family. The kids used the kayaks and explored the coast. We lounged on the large deck, caught a couple amazing sunsets, and played lots of card games. Location was central to all the things we wanted to do. Quiet neighborhood. We had a lovely time.
My husband and I selected this property for the location and amenities that perfectly suit our needs with our dog. The pictures of the property do not do it justice, it is super comfy and simply stunning. The only drawback was no A/C but my understanding is this is being added.
Lovely, quiet property on Coast of Castine. Plenty of room for two adults and two teens. Comfortable beds! Host was very communicative. Would definitely rent this property again if opportunity came up.
Beautiful property and the sunsets were stunning! Mary Lou was so wonderful and quickly responded to an unexpected issue midweek. We were so grateful.

Jeri and family were wonderful guests
They took car ex of the Peregrine House as if it were their own. These are the people that make hosting a joy. Thank you Jeri et. al.
Peregrine House is situated on a quiet road in a peaceful location with a lovely view of the bay and gorgeous sunsets. There is easy access to the town of Castine and the house is a short walk to the beach where we enjoyed swimming. The house was well-equipped. The beds and living area were comfortable. Mary Lou was responsive to our questions and needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Relaxing, wonderful stay. If you're looking for peace and quiet and a chance to get away from it all, this is the place. It is 45 minutes to the nearest lobster pound, Belfast or Camden and about an hour away from Acadia, but still easy enough to do day trips. The house was very clean and owner was responsive and helpful. Check-in was easy and we quickly made ourselves at home. It is a nice balance between a modern Maine home and quaint cottage to give just the perfect Maine-getaway feel. The sunsets are also beautiful to watch from the wraparound deck.

Perfect!
My family spent 4 nights in this fabulous home and we had a great time. This was our first visit to Maine and it exceeded our expectations. Our hosts did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable, which we greatly appreciated. The location was perfect and the views, especially the sunsets were lovely. The home was large, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything for indoor and outdoor enjoyment and relaxation. We would highly recommend this property and would love to return in the future.

exceptional location and accomodations
A most wonderful time at Peregrine cottage. We drove to Ellsworth and Deer Isle, as well as to Bucksport and the observatory. Plenty of time to enjoy the sunsets and relax. The house is very comfortable and quiet, with a short distance to the center of Castine, and restaurants, as well as driving through the quaint little village. Thanks so much for providing a special week...Leo Martin-Joyce Martin-Donna and Paul McNamara

Attention to detail in every way.
Our family of 6 adults and a 2 1/2 year thoroughly enjoyed our time here. It lacks for nothing, including a small amount of breakfast foods for our first morning. Some of the highlights.....sunsets on the porch, roasting marshmallows over the firepit, kayaking, walking the short walk to the beach, and walking into town for lunch. Mary Lou, the owner, could not have been more accommodating and she got back to me very quickly answering my questions. I would highly recommend this home.

Incredible view, cozy, immaculate house located in a peaceful and quiet neighborhood. There is a lot of love the was put into Peregrine House to make it as special as it is. The house is spacious enough that 8 people weren’t bumping into each other, we were all comfortable and in awe of the view the entire time. I loved how it was almost hidden from the road but then the property opens up to a large yard right on the bay.

Loved the property cannot say the same for cleaning. Owned an island vrbo property for many years so know that things don't always work out the way you like. But after a long 12 hour travel when my wife and I awoke and realized the brown spots on the sheets were human excrement it was just too much! When we went to the closet for fresh sheets they were bunled in a ball and also not clean. In master bath areas which have not seen cleaning in quite some time.Great house but zero stars for the unacceptable sheets issue.
Our family of eight adults and two kids had a wonderful time in Castine! The house had a lot of amenities and was close to the town with boat launch and to a beach in walking distance. We visited Bar Harbor and Acadia national park but make note it is about an hour and a half drive. We checked out the Fort Knox in Bucksport and went to the top of the bridge tower. Mary Lou was very easy to get in touch with. Castine is a very historic town with a wonderful museum. We also got lobsters to cook at the house from Eaton’s boat yard at a great price. If you’re looking for quiet, relaxing, reading, swimming, having a lobster bake of your own and watching amazing sunsets, this is the place to go. if you want to be busy with shopping and lots of site seeing activity, you might want to stay closer to a bigger city.
7 of us, ranging in age from 7 to 72, spread out on all three floors, but watching the sunset from the screened porch or deck was truly spectacular and loved by all. The girls adored climbing on the rocks and kicking the soccer ball.
We all enjoyed strolls to the public beach, feeling the wind rustling through the trees, flowers nestled throughout the property, and picking ripe red raspberries. Just a note to future renters: We loved having 3 bathrooms! The owner, Mary, was always reachable when we had questions. We could tell this home had been treasured by her family for a long time. There were definitely tears when we took a farewell look at the waves and sky. Memories were made in this oasis by the sea.

The property location was lovely and peaceful. The main level of the home, loft, enclosed porch were very nice. I traveled with my husband, my sister, brother in law and their adult daughter. They stayed in the “lower level” bedrooms and really felt like they were in a basement despite the door leading outside. They ended up buying a blow up mattress and slept on the main level because of spiders and the overall atmosphere on that level. For what we paid for the week, we expected better. This is really a place for a couple and small child. With some updating, it could be a beautiful spot for a larger group such as ours. I was hesitant to write this but wished we had been made away of the lower level arrangements. We did let Mary Lou know as well.

Never have had complaints about the lawn level floor. Never got an answer ca. How many spiders they were talking about. There were option to place the individual who claimed a phobia about spiders to sleep in another area. These are also the same guests who seemed very unhappy because the Bosh washing machine broke and I had to buy a new one . It took a few days. They said they didn't bring clean clothes with them and had to go to a laundromat. I also bought a new dishwasher.

Quiet Waterfront Cottage with Amazing Views
My daughter and I had a wonderful stay at Peregrine. The place is updated and spotless and view is spectacular. Mary Lou was a gracious host, calling in advance and checking in while we were there to make sure we had everything we needed. The location is perfect -- tucked in on a quiet street just down the road from Wadsworth Cove beach. It's just a short 15-20 minute walk into the quaint little waterfront village of Castine, with beautiful historic homes and a lot of history. We enjoyed the Historical Museum walking tour on Saturday morning and a tour of the John Perkins House, complete with an authentic 1700s era cooking demonstration! We also enjoyed lobster rolls at The Wharf and lunch at MarKel's. We even steamed lobsters in the backyard (using sea water and seaweed) in the propane lobster steamer provided. This was a first, as we have only ever boiled them on the stove. Much time was spent exploring other coastal villages and hiking in Witherle Woods, Holbrook Island Sanctuary and on Isle au Haut. We look forward to returning to a return trip to Peregrine!

Great house on the water down the street from the beach
We had a great time at the property with its large deck overlooking the water and stairs down to the cove. We used the kayaks in the cove and saw porpoises off blockhouse point. Swimming at Wadsworth Cove Beach was very nice. Check in was easy. Good communication with Mary Lou. You can walk to Witherle Woods where there are nice trails. House was well provisioned. Downstairs twin beds were a little soft but great for kids.

Dear John and family, SOOOO glad you had a nice vacation. Reminded me of our kids
when they were young.
It was pleasure to have you as guests.
Thank you for leaving the house so neat an clean.
Hope to have you as guests again.
Sorry it took me so long to answer.
Happy Holidays !!

We just got back from a perfect vacation at the Peregrine house!
The house was very comfortable with views from every window.
Sitting out on the deck, watching a neighboring bald eagle fly by during a spectacular sunset or spying on sea lions with your morning coffee was all the reason you need to stay at this lovely home.
Mary was a great host by making sure that everything was to our liking. Our only complaint and it was a minor one, was the need for the lawn to be mowed. It was nearly 8 inches long during our week here and could be blamed on a shortage of landscaping crew, thanks to Covid or the heavy rains they experienced the previous week. Small issue however, since we'd be eager to spend another week in the future.

About the host
Hosted by Alison Cormier
Hi, we're Ali and Mike Cormier! This home was purchased by our parents as a summer home in 1978, and has remained in the family as a vacation home and VRBO rental since 2015. We love sharing the beauty of Castine and our home with travelers from near and far, and we're confident that you will fall in love with the town of Castine and surrounding areas just like we did. We look forward to hosting you!
Why they chose this property
Built in 1973, the original owner/builders from Cape Cod were all about details. The house was positioned facing slightly South, to afford spectacular sunsets all year long across our front windows. The neighborhood is on a private dirt road, and very quiet, although only a 5 minute drive from Main St in downtown Castine. Our home boasts cathedral ceilings, oil baseboard heating and air conditioning on the main levels and in the bedrooms. The large wrap around porch and sunroom are the perfect places to enjoy the sunset, listen to the waves or have your morning coffee.
What makes this property unique
Peace and quiet with exceptional views across Wadsworth Cove and Penobscot Bay, Islesboro Island and Camden Hills in background. Flowering trees and shrubs, wild roses, geese , sea ducks, and deer families grazing on the lawns of a nearby estate. Unique public beach at end of road, safe swimming/boating/ beach-combing. Our home in Castine is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered.
