About this property

Exclusive Beach Community Minutes from Cedar Point Park/ Sports Center, Kalahari

Hibiscus House is part of Offshore Breeze — three spaces in the Mitiwanga community, a semi-private beach access subdivision nestled between the lakeside towns of Vermilion and Huron, Ohio. Every Offshore Breeze property is built around the same promise: a well-equipped, comfortable, clean, and safe space for making memories. This one is where it all began.

The Origin
Hibiscus House was my father's investments from the 80's. When he began his journey with dementia, we stepped in — first as caregivers, then as stewards of something he'd built and loved. We inherited not just the property but the VRBO account he'd created, and we set out to make it into something worthy of the legacy. We didn't know much about hosting at the time. So we simply asked ourselves: what would we want if we were the guests? Five seasons later, that question still drives everything we do. Hibiscus House is a living homage — to him (and mom who died but not before helping him get them off the ground 30 years earlier), to the belief that families need time together, and to the hope that one day our daughter and nieces will carry it forward the way we carried it from him.

The Space
Hibiscus House sleeps six comfortably. Two bedrooms: a queen with a mattress we chose carefully, because a great night's sleep is the foundation of a great day at play — and a bunk room with four twin beds, the two lower bunks fitted with memory foam for guests who choose comfort over the adventure of the top bunk. One small bathroom serves the whole space — we're transparent about that. If you're coming with more than four adults, plan your mornings accordingly. For families with kids, or groups who move at their own pace, it works beautifully.

The kitchen is compact and fully functional — ample stove with oven, a fridge sized to leave room for the RV-style stacked washer and dryer that keeps a week of lake clothes manageable. The butcher block counter gives you real workspace and casual dining space in one. And then there's Kristy's coffee cart — her stroke of genius that started here and spread to every Offshore Breeze property. Three ways to brew, two ways to steep tea, fresh beans you can grind yourself, and a rotating selection that has a way of quietly raising your standards before checkout.

Fly-In Ready
We stock these spaces imagining a family stepping off a plane with nothing but luggage. You shouldn't have to spend $100 replacing things you already own at home. The cupboards are stocked with spices, condiments are kept fresh, and the things you forgot — toothbrushes, razors, hair ties, Q-tips, and more — are here waiting. Families with infants will find a pack-and-play ready to go. Bring what you plan to eat. We've handled the rest.

Kristy's Garden
If you're visiting in season, Kristy's hibiscus arrangements will greet you at the door — a burst of color that makes the North Coast feel briefly tropical. It is genuinely something to come home to after a day at the beach.

The Beach and Beyond
A few hundred yards from the front door is one of the North Coast's most beloved private beaches — exclusive to roughly 50 community residents, all sand as far as you can walk. Fire ring for evenings. Fishing piers where yellow perch, white bass, and catfish are reliably biting. And across the bay, Cedar Point's coasters visible on the horizon, running through the summer sky.

We have everything you need to actually use the beach: chairs, shade, beach blankets, kneeboards, floaties, life jackets — and Kristy's beach glass kits, which have quietly become one of our most talked-about touches. Directly across the road are tennis and pickleball courts, a basketball court, and a grass area where the volleyball net tends to appear.

The sunsets over the Point are not something we can take credit for. But we're glad you'll see them from here.

The Surrounding Area
Cedar Point is about 15 minutes away via the scenic old back causeway — most guests find their way there at least once. But Mitiwanga sits at the center of two genuinely welcoming towns. Vermilion to the east and Huron to the west both reward exploration. When hunger hits, the Angry Bull Steakhouse delivers a hearty night out, and Chez François — overlooking the Vermilion River — is the kind of place that makes an ordinary evening feel like an occasion.

This is not a VRBO like others you've stayed in or heard about from friends. It was built from love, maintained with intention, and stocked by people who have been guests themselves and know what it feels like when a place is genuinely ready for you. We hope to meet you when you arrive — and we hope that whatever you came here to make, you make it here.

Why they chose this property

Along with the location, we are happy to offer access to sporting equipment. From basketballs and tennis rackets for the local courts to fishing poles, kayaks, and sailing dinghy's. I am a skilled sailor willing to provide lessons for those who wish to engage in experiencing a challenging and fun new sport. In the future we at Offshore Breeze hope to have our own big boat to offer. Sunset cruises, island adventures, dinner sail to one of the riverside restaurants. Before having to dedicate my time to dad, I used to take enjoyment and pride in taking people who had little to no experience out to for a sunset sail. Most of them are still thankful year later.

So please, come and let us enable you to make lasting memories. Come for the local attractions, but stay with us for a unique and unforgettable experience that will inspire dreams and draw your family or friends group tighter together. Elevate your vacation to a true adventure.

What makes this property unique

Access to the private beach. Walking distance to two pubs. Options for sailing, diving (There is a dive shop about 20 minutes away. ) , and fishing adventures at discount rates. less than a half hour from a small boat Marina. We are still working out the details as this is new. There are 3 golf course near by. If you are a avid golfer there are some very unique and reputable ones for a small drive cost. Maumee Bay has once of the few Scottish Links style course in the area.

We are accepting dogs with responsible humans up to 20lbs for a small fee of $100. We too are dog parents and understand how much comfort (not to mention value) there is in traveling with our 4 legged companions.

So Please give us a chance to make more than a vacation, make a memory that you and your party will treasure for a lifetime. We have been guests many times, we know what we liked and didn't like. We are going to bring that wisdom to our guests.
