Hi Sandra We were very pleased to receive your lovely review and so glad you liked our cottage. I think you had a very wet week - the Estate is lovely whatever the weather but absolutely gorgeous in the Summer. It would be lovely to have you come back and stay again. With best wishes. Sarah

Hi Amanda Thank you for taking the time to review us and so pleased you had a lovely time at Gatehouse West. I have noted your comments about the clothes drier as well. Hopefully we will see you back again with some better weather! The Estate is gorgeous when the sun is shining. Best wishes. Sarah

Hi Jenny I am very pleased the long stay worked out for you and that you enjoyed the cottage and the Colmer estate from our telephone calls. The road between Modbury and the A38 is narrow in parts which causes traffic to queue at times which maybe makes it feel busier than it is. I guess you were using that road a lot as you were visiting family in Plymouth. Normally holiday makers would be heading in the opposite direction to reach the beaches and other small towns such as Salcombe. Anyway, once again I am glad it all worked out for you and maybe we will see you on another occasion when you visit the UK again. Best wishes Sarah and Mike

Hi Claire Many thanks for your excellent review and I am so pleased you liked the cottage and enjoyed your holiday so much. It is a lovely place to stay and with lots to do so hopefully you may be back in the future. Thank you again and best wishes. Sarah and Mike

Dear guest. I am sorry you felt that you had a poor holiday although you liked the property. This was a very disappointing review because of the following reasons. The Colmer Estate is set in 28 acres of woodland and pasture. This area is rural countryside and is not meant to be manicured and tweaked. We are not an urban holiday park. The area around the properties, tennis court, swimming pools, walled garden has a weekly team of people who maintain it to a high standard. The lake area is situated by the woods so half of the lake is surrounded by some trees and bushes. However, the other side of the lake is surrounded by lawned grass and a couple of pontoons which I have never seen access to being difficult. I guess the lake is quite low at the moment due to the extremely hot and dry Summer. I have checked back on the conversation from yourself during booking and there was no communication from yourself regarding your holiday or expectations. You did not ask about the lake or anything about the Estate. You did not ask about fishing and you did not respond to the information I gave you. If you had I might have been able to have set your expectations better. Disappointingly you also broke the curtain rail in the children’s bedroom and did not let me know which I should have charged you for but I am not in the habit of chasing money. We normally have 5 star reviews with excellent comments on this site and another popular booking site. Best wishes. Mike and Sarah

Hi Teresa Thank you for your 5 star review and glad you loved the cottage and the surrounding Estate and outside pool. The outdoor pool is glorious particularly with hot weather. We were sorry though to hear about your friend tripping on the stairs. We hope she makes a speedy recovery. With best wishes. Sarah and Mike

Hi Annie We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay in our cottage so much and thank you for letting us know. It is a lovely place and such a beautiful area to explore as well. Hope you can stay again.

Thank you for your review and we are pleased you liked the cottage. With reference to your comments about dogs, we do take dogs but ask they do not go upstairs or up onto the furniture. Upstairs is carpeted so harder to clean with respect to dog hairs. We also take a lot of guests without dogs so we are aware that guests in general do not want dog hairs etc lingering, especially in the bedrooms. The same applies to the furniture. We do let dog owners know of this in their information pack. With regard to the Estate, we do have sheep grazing so again dogs must be kept under control. Also, there are other guests staying in the other cottages who will not have dogs so it is trying to be respectful of everyone staying at Colmer. We do ask owners to pick up after their dog. This would be expected in all public areas and again is just being respectful of other people. I agree with you totally that we need to have recycling facilities at Colmer and is something we are personally working on. There is bottle recycling in the California Cross pub car park but agree Colmer should have their own facilities. We have taken on board what you have said about the bin area in general and have passed these on to our Estate Manager. Thank you again and we are pleased that you had a good holiday.

Dear Michael Thank you for your excellent 5 star review. We are really pleased you liked the cottage and had a great holiday. We had not been aware of the difficulties with the lock but it has now been fixed as our change over lady noticed it on Saturday. Also, thank you for highlighting the garden and having small dogs. Our small labrador cross dog has never got out but we will look at the gates when we are next down. Many thanks again for the review. We would certainly be happy to welcome you back again. Many thanks and best wishes. Sarah and Mike

Dear Sultan Thank you very much for your lovely review and so pleased you had such a great time. The Estate is looking gorgeous and we are also really pleased with how lovely the cottage is looking as well (we replaced the last two windows, back door and bathroom floor this year which was getting a little tired). We would certainly be very pleased to book you in at Gatehouse West again. With best wishes Sarah and Mike
