Les Campagnes is a beautiful restored house with heated swimming pool with poolhouse and has direct acces to the Dordogne river. Th house is situaed between la Rocque Gageac and Cenac,9 kilometers south of Sarlat. It is one of the few houses with direct acces to the Dordogne River.

The house has been recently an symphathetically restored and furnished to a high standard for the owners own use and offers spacious accomodation for up to 8 people.

This is a perfect base from which to explore one of the most beautiful region of France.

We had a wonderful holiday at this property. The house was super and roomy and the children especially loved having the big bedrooms upstairs all to themselves. The whole house was very comfortable with an excellent choice of bathrooms. The pool area was fabulous and our favourite spot of all was the balcony overlooking the garden. We sat out there every evening till late relaxing after a hard day’s sightseeing or swimming- Although it did not distract from our holiday in any way we did feel there was a few negative points and some TLC is needed. However, we would certainly return to this property and highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful stay at the house. The house is full of character. The sitting room is comfortable and the TV had full access to the usual services. The terrace at the back of the house is lovely; we used the BBQ and ate outside on several occasions. The pools is great, and the pool house with a bathroom and fridge was really good. It is lovely to have the river at the bottom of the garden. The local village of Cenac is a few minutes walk along the river and over the bridge. There is a good size supermarket and a range of restaurants. We would definitely come back. The house is somewhat 'lived in', but we like that.

Beautiful House, Beautiful Location

The house and the location were perfect. The owner is lovely and helped us several times with minor issues. The Pool is huge and warm. The house stayed quite cool despite temperatures of 37 degrees some days. The Aircon in the upper bedrooms was appreciated. The kitchen is really well stocked with everything you could think of for a self catering holiday. I would definitely stay in this house again but perhaps out of main season as although the house remained very peaceful the area was extremely busy in August.

Paradise!

The pictures online don't fully illustrated the qualities of this property. First of all, the house is much bigger than it seems; there are 5 double bedrooms and three full baths. It's not only functional and pleasant but also warmly decorated. We spent 8 days there in the worst heat France has known in a long time, much talked about internationally, yet we were fine in the house. The two upper bedrooms have individual AC units. The lower level bedrooms were kept cool by their insulation, the ceiling fans and cross ventilation. We loved the pool but even more the river which, at that point has a huge area of flat rocks about foot under the water, an ideal place to lie down and contemplate the scenery while being cooled and massaged by the water. We also walked up to the bridge and swam down. There is a path along the river, a bit hard to notice, that goes up toward the bridge and also down all the way to La Roque Gageac. We were also lucky to be there when there was still some lingering linden flower and wisteria fragrance, which gave the garden an even more idyllic atmosphere. And at night it made swimming under the star a magical experience. When we looked at the location online we were a bit concerned by the proximity of a campground, imagining rowdy crowds but, at least during our stay, it had only super well equipped RV vehicles, and only middle aged couples. Sarlat is very close and definitely worth visiting but awfully touristy so we went through it quickly and preferred to eat elsewhere; he best was the Cantine at Daglan, about 20 min drive south, which we discovered thanks to the many brochures provided in the house. We also found walking in Domme more enjoyable. Of course there were also some minor negatives, for instance the condensation of the humidity on the cold lower level floor, but that was only during the 2 hottest days. It would also help to have a better floor squeegee for the lower bathroom.

Loved the place

This is a well positioned, fantastically equipped and welcoming home. The pool is warm and inviting and if you don’t want to drive anymore, Cenac is within walking distance. If you need it, the owners have provided it and right in the heart of the Dordogne's best attractions. We loved it and hopefully will return one day. Even the dog didn’t want to leave having spent most of the week in the river. Great place.

Un lieu paradisiaque mais bruyant

La maison est grande, très propre. L'accueil est sympathique et l'emplacement apparemment idéal en bord de rivière avec un chemin à pied en sentier pour aller au village et à la roche gageac. Il y a tout ce qu'il faut au village. La piscine est propre, chauffée et sans chlore. Par contre la belle terrasse en surplomb n'est pas épargnée du bruit de la route qui devient important en saison, et nous avons malheureusement, en plus, occupé le logement pendant la semaine d'entretien du camping à côté parfois jusqu'à 21h.... c'est un endroit magnifique mais quand on cherche le silence cen'est peut-être pas le bon...

Wunderschöner Urlaub

Das Haus ist sehr groß, größer als es auf den Bildern erscheint. Es war sehr sauber, alles Notwendige war vorhanden und in sehr gutem Zustand. Auf der Terasse kann man herrlich sitzen. Der Kontakt mit dem Vermieter war außerordentlich freundlich. Die Lage des Hauses ist einmalig - direkt an der Dordogne! Die vielen Kanus im Sommer stören nicht, es ist insgesamt sehr ruhig. Der Garten ist riesig, der Pool ist groß und wird gepflegt, man kann dort völlig ungestört Zeit verbringen. Der Ort Cenac ist nur wenige Minuten mit dem Auto entfernt, es gibt dort alles, was man benötigt. Man kann Kanu fahren, wandern, eine Radtour machen oder Stand-up-Paddling - alles in unmittelbarer Nähe. Traumhaft war eine Ballonfahrt über die Dordogne. Fazit: Ein wunderbarer Urlaub!

Wonderful stay at "les campagnes"

The house is amazing and the location perfect: 5 very large bedrooms, modern and well equipped kitchen, very pleasant covered back porch for meals overlooking large yard gently sloping towards the Dordogne, with fruit trees and a lovely, warm swimming pool. Cenac, the village within walking distance from the house is charming but also fairly quiet, away from the very touristic nearby Roque Gageac and Beynac. It was easy to be a tourist in the morning with many sites/activities less than an hour away, and then relaxing in the afternoon in the very comfortable house. The hosts are lovely, we will certainly be back. Thank you !

Amazing, stunning location.

The photos really don't do the house justice. We had a brilliant stay. There were 8 of us and it was very spacious and furnished to a high standard (choice of gas / charcoal bbq, 2 coffee machines, pool house with shower, toilet, fridge, dining area and table tennis). Stunning location with direct access to the river where you can swim and kayak and also within easy walking distance of the beautiful villages of Domme and La Roque Gageac. Lovely large garden with a big pool with very comfortable loungers. We would highly recommend this house.

Fabulous house, fabulous location

Such a lovely spacious house fastastically placed right on the river. Very well equipped for all you might like to do whether cooking, swimming (pool or river) and table tennis. We had a super holiday here with kids, Domme has good restsurants and Cenac nearby a supermarket and Boulangerie for your breakfasts.

Just what we wanted!

We decided to return to the Dordogne after 30 years looked for a well located house with good facilities. We were not disappointed with our two weeks at Les Compagnes. The house is close to Domme, La Rocque Gageac and Sarlat and only a walk across the bridge to Cenac. The house is beautiful, clean and well equipped with a lovely covered terrace overlooking the garden. There is a good sized, heated pool and wonderful river frontage. We could not have asked for more. The owner and housekeeper were attentive and very helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

"Prachtig vakantiehuis, zeer volledig ingericht. Schilderachtige ligging aan de Dordogne, maar wel met meer dan voldoende privacy voor de langskomende kano''s. Begin de dag met een bezoek aan de bakker in het naburige Cénac, ontbijt op de veranda, lunch in het poolhouse en borrel in de Dordogne ;-) De doorgaande weg waaraan het huis ligt is wel heel handig voor het maken van uitstapjes in de buurt, nadeel is dat je de weg iets meer hoort. Zo heeft elk nadeel z''n voordeel... Flexibele en attente eigenaar. Kan huis aan iedereen aanraden!!!"
