Cream cottage is comfortable and equipped with everything required for a relaxing and enjoyable stay, in a beautiful area, with a wonderful view of Knocknashee- the Hill of the Faeries. We were able to visit so many places during our stay. So much to see and do throughout the county, whatever you’d interest. Returning to the cottage each evening was lovely, sara was very responsive to any queries before and during our stay.
We stayed five days and had a good time. We had everything what we needed...

This was a lovely, memorable stay for our family. The cottage was very comfortable and warm. Good sofa and good beds and a nice kitchen. It is beside a dairy farm but it is very quiet and our wee one loved seeing the cows. Ideal for anyone looking for beautiful views and peace and quiet.
This cottage was absolutely perfect! Cozy and clean. A well equipped kitchen. We made several day trips to Sligo, the Aran Islands, and most of the Wild Atlantic Way. Yes, it was a drive…but this cottage was so comfy to come back to each night!
We enjoyed our 3 day stay at Slyvie’s Cottage. It is located in a lovely farming area south of Sligo Town and a good location to explore the surrounding Counties Sligo and Mayo. The Muir family has added many lovely touches which made our stay warm and welcoming. Directions, property details, and local activities are well provided.

Thank you Mike and Chris for staying! We were pleased you enjoyed your break away in Sligo. We would be delighted to have you stay again if you ever come back to Sligo
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cute and cosy cottage which was still spacious enough to accommodate my wife, myself and our four sons. Well situated for trips to the coast (we visited Standhill, Ross Strand and Mullaghmore) there is also much to explore if the weather is not so good e.g. National Museum of Country Life, King House and one of our favourites the seaweed baths at Inishcrone. We also drove out to Westport which needs no superlatives from and even as far as Blacksod in the Belmullet peninsula. All in all, a great time, many thanks to Sara for what is a very good value holiday home.
Quintessential, lovely Irish cottage is set among green pastures and mountain views. Loved the combination of traditional charm and modern convenience in the cottage, which was very clean and thoughtfully equipped. Back garden has a variety beautiful interesting fauna and is so pretty and private. Sara is an amazing host--clear directions and instructions as well as great recommendations for local restaurants, sights, and music. Sara also went above and beyond to arrange the return of a bag we left behind. If you are looking for a quiet, restful space in a beautiful part of Ireland, stay at this cottage--you will love it!
The location and accommodations are wonderful but the pdf instructions from the owner appear to be out-dated and a little confusing. The directions state that guests need to replace wood or peat used for the tiny stove in the living room - but there were no instructions on where to obtain the replacement fuel. It also seemed unreasonable to ask guests to take their garbage away with them (not just place in a bin outside, but take it away from the premises), and to check the electric meter upon arrival and departure so as to pay for the electricity used. Those sorts of services should just be included in the overall price of the stay in my opinion. Despite those slight confusions, we enjoyed our stay in the cottage and found the wildlife (birds and a fox) enchanting. The nights were extremely peaceful and the surroundings picturesque!

Thank you for your review
The garbage is not collected at this property. There is a dumpster 1km down the road to dispose it at a cost of €9. The fuel is acquired from local shops. Electricity is paid for by individual guests depending on what they use and this varies per party. All of the above are made clear prior to booking and in the pdf provided. Many holiday homes do not include these as part of the rent and this is common in Europe.
On arrival at the cottage it looked very tired compared to the pictures. The gate was all rusted, flacking paint on the front door, the gate was hanging off in parts and a large amount of weeds to the front.
However, On entering the property it was lovely. Clean spacious and everything we needed for a few days. Kitchen well equipped and a good shower. The bedrooms a great size and ideal for a larger family too. Bed comfortable.
The back garden really needed to be tended to as the weed theme continued to the back and an over grown garden. Whilst this was not a problem for us as we spent little time at the property, it could be for others especially if a family with kids and if a longer stay and more suitable garden furniture would be better ( chairs a little to low, but this is my personal preference).
On balance we did enjoy the cottage it just needs a bit of TLC to the front and back and yes I would recommend it to others if you wish to stay in a ‘get a way from it all’ area. Lovely and peaceful and some nice views to the back. Good value for money.

Thank you Emma for your feedback. We arrived after you and spent 2 weeks painting the front windows and sorting out the garden - indeed it needed it! The gate is more tricky and this will be done with fresh wall paint when we go again. Glad you had a good break away

Comfortable and quaint cottage
It was a very quiet and relaxing stay for the 4 of us. There was enough space for everyone to spread out during the week, even though the bathroom was rather tight. Basic cooking tools along with coffee/tea are provided. The cottage has character and is at the end of the road. The charge for electricity is minimal. We had initially planned to spend more time at the cottage but because driving around took so much time we were pretty much there for dinner, until the next morning. Also I appreciated the fact that the guests are responsible for cleaning as we always make sure we clean up before we leave any lodging. It is remotely located so you need a car. A small car.
A couple of things I did not know until later:
1. the owner lives in UK. And since the cell signal is rather poor at the cottage, I used my sometimes-working-wifi to contact her most of the time, but that meant it took some time to get answers as well. Also only one set of keys--we almost got locked out, because the door swings shut sometimes. I believe this type of door is common in Europe. But those from North America would find it difficult to get used to for a while.
2. you have to take the garbage with you at the end. This was not a big issue except for the fact that the dump is about 30 minutes away in Sligo. Unfortunately for us, we were not going that way when we left, so we ended up driving over 45 minutes with a stinky bag of garbage in the back seat (since the trunk was full with our luggages)! Also it is 8 Euro per bag for garbage.
I recommend this cottage to a family with small children or up to 4 adults. And only if you can swing by a garbage collecting site after you check out.

Anna, I was disappointed with your review for the following reasons:
1. On booking all guests receive a 7 page welcome pack detailing the need for guests to dispose of their own rubbish and how to do this. In Ireland there is a heavy duty on this and because I live in the UK, it is not worth me paying 500 euros a year - that is one reason why the cottage is cheap to rent;
2. When trying to get a signal on your mobile in rural Ireland, it is not a good idea to leave the pots and pans burning, take all 3 children out of the cottage then shut the door. This is a fire risk. The door is wood and sticks in the frame, as wood shrinks and expands in cold/warm weather so I believe in fact either you or one of your kids shut the door. By the way, I did not charge for the broken window that needed repair.
3. All 16 messages were responded to in adequate time, 2 of which were during your stay. I hope the local caretaker was able to assist you when I sent him round to attend to your needs.

Enjoyed six nights in Doomore. Very quiet and peaceful. The cottage has everything you need and there are plenty of walks and short trips in the area. I would thoroughly recommend staying here
Brilliant location - beaches not to far , mountains nearby for walking /climbing and mountain biking
It’s remote and hidden away which is what we like - beautiful old cottage and very snug if using it in colder weather . It was wonderful staying here .
The cottage was in lovely and cosy, the setting it was in was beautiful. And tobercurry was only 5 mins away with many local amenities. Sligo is stunning and we will hopefully be returning.
Die Umgebung ist super. Die Kinder waren über die Kühe begeistert, die manchmal direkt hinterm Haus stehen. Leider viele Stock und Schimmelflecken im Haus. Das Bad eher eine Zumutung. Sorry.
A lovely stay in Sara's cosy cottage. Within striking distance of Tubbercurry, but still very rural. Enjoy the silence and serenity after spending the day sightseeing!
Thanks for a lovely stay
We had a lovely Staycation at this property. The area was quiet and we could relax. It was close to all the amenities. We loved the Knocknarea walk and the Benbulben Forest Walk. We had a great communicaton with the owner.
My sister and I had an enjoyable few days in this pleasant cottage. The kitchen diner was light and bright and overlooked the large garden. The bedrooms were both a good size and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was small but adequate and the shower worked well. Overall, the cottage was warm and comfortable and suited us well. The owner was helpful and friendly and responded quickly when contacted.
Directions were comprehensive and made the cottage easy to find. The accommodation was generally well equipped and it was lovely to have the opportunity to experience one of those cottages we often pass and wonder what they are like inside!
Information from Sara was very useful including letting us know of the local fair whilst we were staying.
Overall an excellent stay in cosy accommodation.

About the host
Hosted by Sara
My family are from Co Sligo and we can trace our lineage for over 510 years! I am the last of the family and maintaining a link to this area and sharing the magic of the West is something I want to ensure is passed on to my children - hence why we bought this cottage
Why they chose this property
It's in a perfect spot! Far enough from the town for privacy and in easy reach of everything you need
What makes this property unique
It is a traditional cottage and the type of dwelling my grandfather and his parents were raised in. The fireplace is magnificent and I bet there were many yarns told by the light of the fire. Irish fairies are known in these areas and if you take a photo and see a bluish/green light, you might just have caught one!
