We stayed for Spring Break and enjoyed the property. John was great to work with and replied to my emails/texts right away. The property itself was very well taken care of and the unit we stayed in was very nice. The kitchen had everything we needed and the bed was comfortable. It was centrally located to everything we visited, which was really convenient. The only negative thing is that it is not in the best part of town. We were able to find parking out front every day. Overall, a pretty nice place to stay!

Our property is located in a designated historic district on the slope above Downtown San Diego. Due to its proximity to the city and the architecture uniqueness of the homes, the area is now extremely expensive. In the 25 years we have owned our property we have never experienced a crime related incident of any kind. The area is very safe and our 3 young boys love staying at the property.
Great weather. Location is central to downtown restaurants and exhibits like the zoo, USS Midway and Coronado. We felt secure with the lock system of the rental. Like many cities experiencing homeless residents, this area is still rather nice.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
I came to San Diego for a business trip, and got very pleasantly surprised by this place. The room was very clean and had everything that anyone would want: a small kitchen, TV, wi-fi, a bathroom with lots of towels, sufficient amounts of shampoo and soap, a good bed. Upon arrival I received detailed instructions, which I found very helpful. The location is close to the Convention Center, to which I walked every day. It is also close to lots of restaurants with numerous food options. I will definitely stay here when I visit San Diego in future.
Easy to locate, clear communication, clean, little extras such as body boards and quarters for laundry. The only pain point was parking. I would definitely come back again.
It is close to the city and Coronado. It is easy to get onto the highway. It had everything we needed such as fridge and cookware. We had one issue where homeless guy dented our car, but otherwise good location.
The apartment was very well appointed and the location was perfect. It was very comfortable and the owner bent over backwards to accommodate any request.
We had a great short stay. The owner communicates great with you the whole time. Lots of bums which made me nervous first night but all was fine and no need to worry. I would stay here again.
Property was very clean. Carpet in living room would benefit from cleaning in light of restriction on wearing shoes in the property, and it seems this rule was applied after the fact Outdoor amenities were very nice. Would stay here again.
John's place had all the amenities one would ever need and it truly felt like home. The location is extremely close to downtown and the freeway. If I'm back in SD, I will definitely stay here again
We truly enjoyed our stay. Property management was there to answer all of our questions and found time to ask how we were doing after a day of staying. Although we were slightly surprised by the neighborhood and attracted homeless in the area. The neighbors were very nice and welcoming. The welcoming letter gave us all the details we needed and some. We were close to the Beach and 5 minutes to the San Diego zoo. I Wouldn't mind staying again.
My husband and I stayed at this property for a week. It was clean and had all necessary kitchen supplies. Just a few blocks from a neighborhood Walmart. Close to downtown. We rented bikes to get around the city. The owner was quick to respond to any concerns (WiFi stopped working briefly and he fixed it promptly). The bed was very comfortable. Would highly recommend staying here!!
Though it wasn't in the safest part of town, we didn't feel any danger and absolutely loved the property and the rooms. Parking wasn't always close, but available. Friendly neighbors. Close to downtown.
The location is excellent it was close to everything we were interested in doing in San Diego. The house and property We’re clean and inviting. Plenty of room for four adults and the amenities were great. The Property owner John is pleasant and accommodating. We all had a great time. When in San Diego we will book again.
Great location. We did not avail ourselves of all the amenities that were available as we did not have free time in San Diego. Great location for hanging out with family and friends.
This property was within just a couple miles of everything we wanted to do in San Diego. Had a great Christmas with our son who is stationed in San Diego. Carpet looks about ready to be replaced, but was clean. Room was clean with nice bedding and all amenities needed. Post has a list of items available upon request, but we had everything we needed in the room. received our welcome letter timely with all instructions on how to access the property. Our flight got in very late, so it was nice just to be able to go straight to the property and not have to deal with a link the “check in” process. There’s a beautiful courtyard in the back of the property. Unfortunately we had rain the whole time we were there and we’re not able to take advantage of the beautiful flowers and gazebo. Would stay here again.
The property is well maintained and clean, it is a good place to stay for the price. However, parking is limited and can be challenging to find later in the day.
This rental was so close to all the attractions we wanted to visit. The property was clean and perfect for our family. The property owner had great communication with us.
We really enjoyed staying at the Sherman Heights Victorian that was lovingly restored and put to great use as a vacation rental. Parking was easy, temperature was great, we never made a full meal, but could have if we had wanted to, enjoyed laundry on site as we stayed over a week and the yard to relax and work/read. Easy walk to downtown made for a fun way to be non car in an otherwise bustling city of highways. Downtown and the wharf/Embarcadero area are just amazing to behold. I was born in San Diego but moved away for grad school over 28 years ago and it is always fun to see the fantastic renovations and city centric activities for locals and tourist. Highly recommend this rental!

Wonderful hotel alternative for the business traveler!
The apartment is located approximately 1 mile from the San Diego Convention center and was a lovely alternative to a hotel. Pristine clean with everything you need to feel like you 'came home' after a long day of work! Although I did not rent a car, there was plenty of street parking. I never waiting more than 3 minutes for a Lyft/Uber to get downtown. Quite building and neighborhood. It was a perfect alternative to the busy hotel scene!
The property is in a great location, close to everything downtown. Check in/check out process was great. The space was smaller than I had anticipated from the photos, but it was clean, the bed was very comfortable. One drawback, just from being downtown, was a lot of sirens in the middle of the night.
Convenient to downtown and the convention center, just a quick Lyft away

About the host

I grew up in Northampton Massachusetts, a town with countless beautiful old homes and lots of woods. I spent countless days in my youth building tree forts never knowing that those 2 dynamics would intersect at this point. Upon arriving in San Diego with an interest in building and purchasing real estate, I became immediately interested in the largely neglected Victorian buildings in this area of town. This property became a labor of love for me many years ago and I hope that legacy will be carried forward by my 3 sons. My wife if Japanese, so our family often divides our time between 2 very different worlds, both with much to offer.
