About this property
Bijou 17th Century Cottage
This unique, characterful property has been thoughtfully designed to make the best use of space available and is Grade 2 listed. It lies in a picturesque setting and results in a charming cottage with a wealth of interesting and original features – panelled wood doors and wardrobe and Stuart beams. The holiday home boasts a reading/dressing room, a log burner, beautifully dressed windows with stylish fabrics and accessories. Original Lakeland slate flooring and exposed oak beams, with contemporary oak flooring upstairs. The view of local fells can be seen from the southern kitchen and bedroom windows, tempting for walkers. Guests can simply park up for the week and enjoy the lakes on foot. The cottage has walks straight from the door, along with breathtaking lake and mountain scenery. This cosy village cottage is designed for two. Note: No children allowed, including infants or smoking, but dogs may be considered. Shop (Spar), ATM, garage and gastro pub 50 metres away.
The cottage was built by 1690 and was originally part of the Coaching House, now Traditional Grade II Listed, and stables on the main Windermere route.
Outstanding, circular walk from the cottage to Troutbeck; after a visit to the National Trust Townend Hall, have a drink at The Mortal Man then follow old tracks and footpaths up to the top of Wansfell, for outstanding views over Windermere and Ambleside.

We enjoyed our stay, very clean property and comfortable and ideally situated. Although we found the property chilly and the heating and appliances frustrating to use.
Quiet and peaceful location short drive or walk to Windermere Lovely walks Good value

Disliked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
It wasn’t what I was expecting.Rather disappointed.Outdated inside and the outside needs tidying up, didn’t give a good first impression of the cottage.

I'm very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay after your message about the kitchen utensils I went to the cottage today and replaced everything toaster kettle microwave oven it didn't really need replacing apart from the kettle, as for being outdated it is a 16th century cottage and we thought we would keep the interior in keeping .the bedding we use is the most expensive we can buy and the internet was working fine when we got there. The outside is only a two seat bench which I admit did need weeding but again my apologies . I must just say IV looked back in the reviews and most people have enjoyed their stay and we get many repeat bookings best regards Chris
Charming location that allowed exploring the lake district without a car. Frequent buses at the stop nearby. Loved the old stone walls with the slate floors. We have an old house with narrow stairs, so they felt like home. (Hang onto the railing). We arrived in a downpour, and had some trouble locating #14 (overgrown). Thank goodness for SPAR at the gas station for hot coffee and food basics. Go hiking out the back, up the field, around the sheep for some incredible views

Thanks for the review really glad you had a good time
Beautiful cottage in perfect location to explore the lakes. Bus stop at the end of the road making it very easy to get around. Had a very lovely stay and would return.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage. It's in a great location and is the perfect place to cosy up by the fire and to use as a base to explore the Lakes. This was our second visit and we'll defnitely be back!
We really enjoyed our short stay here. The cottage was full of character but cleverly modernised with a well- equipped kitchen squeezed in at the foot of the stairs. The bathroom had a great shower. The cottage is in a great location with walks from the door but just near the town.
