About this property

Cozy, rustic cottage in wooded, quiet lakeside neighborhood

Wildwood Cottage is part of the small 1950s Forest Acres vacation community tucked away on a wooded hillside in Bristol, New Hampshire.

The cottage sleeps 6 comfortably. There is private bedroom with a queen bed, a loft bedroom with 2 twin beds, and a double futon on the sun room. As an old fashioned "houskeeping" cottage ask you to supply your own sheets & towels. Blankets and pillows are provided. However, if you would like the convenience of linen service we can provide it for a $50,00 service fee

It has been our family’s vacation home for more than 29 years. The crystal clear water of Newfound Lake is just a short, if steep!) walk to the bottom of the hill, and the wondrously tall conifer trees are all around.

Though the outside of the cottage is deceptively small, the inside is quite spacious, with plenty of light, natural pine woodwork, an open cathedral ceiling and loft area, a fireplace, screened sun room, and the obligatory deer head. If you're looking for an old-timey camp, you've found the right place!

The kitchen is equipped with a a small gas stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven and the usual cooking utensils. Being small and low tech there is no dishwasher. There is a flat screen TV with DVD player, a stereo, iPod/phone charging station. Wifi is available for subscription TV services. Cell phone service seems to be good in our location.

Outside there is a front deck with gas grill, outside tables & chairs and umbrellas to keep off the afternoon sun. There is a sand box in the yard if you have little tykes with you. We have a fire ring in the backyard and wood is provided. There is an enclosed rustic outdoor shower for rinsing after the beach if you like the back to nature feeling.

The cottage is not on the beach, but it is right between the two Bristol Town beach areas, and about 7 minutes from Wellington State park - we'll provide the beach chairs and floaty noodles! We have found being off the main road and the busy lake front has means more peace and quiet, and a safer place for kids.

Please note the road is very steep and turns to dirt half way up. It is not suited for motorcycles. Due to the curve in the road and the short lengths of the driveway, there is no room for fishing or bike trailers.

About the host

Owners Paul and Laura Tedeschi live in Brooklyn, CT
We met as art students at UMASS at Dartmouth. We somehow ended up fixing up 3 older homes, before buying Wildwood Cottage.

We have 2 children a son and daughter, who spent many happy weekends and vacations at the cottage. Laura was scout leader (cub and girl) and has had her troops stay at the cottage.

Why they chose this property

We chose this area for a vacation home because Paul's parent's had been living in the White Mountains area and on return trips from visiting, we often would drive down Route 3 just to look at Newfound Lake and say, "Wouldn't it be great to have a little get-away spot here - it's so beautiful and peaceful - imagine going for a hike near the lake then coming home to a nice cozy fireplace?"

Paul's parent eventually moved to Bristol and his mom convinced us we should look for a place there. After looking at many run-down , low ceiling-ed, crowded cottage colony places, which was all we could afford on the lake, Paul's Mom called us to say she had our cottage, it wasn't on the lake "but just wait until you see it!"

We loved it the minute we walked in. The house had a sweet woody smell, the living room with the necessary cozy fireplace was perfect, and the house had never been finished so we could fix it up they way wanted. We could picture kids up in the loft bedroom. There was little noise from the busy shore road and lake. But we could see the lake through the trees, and we could walk down to Cummings Town beach.

The area has a great old-fashioned 50's-60' vacation feel, no over-development or huge motor boats on the lake. Shackett's grocery right up the street. Plus a nice little downtown area with antique shops and some great breakfast places and pubs. And all close to some nice natural areas we like to visit like Sculptured Rocks, Hebron Marsh, Quincy Bog and Wellington State Park. We were hooked!
Now it's your turn to love Wildwood Cottage and Newfound Lake!
