About this property

Family-friendly, thoughtfully modernized, historic home in Harpers Ferry.

The Spy House is rich with history and has been lovingly updated by Its owner. It was built in the 1880s in the Federal style and has been adapted for modern living with an open-concept living room and kitchen.

Any cook will feel at home in the well-appointed eat-in kitchen. You can enjoy a relaxing meal around the large handmade farm table. You will find a heavy-duty gas stove, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.

The home features three bathrooms. The primary bathroom features a vintage clawfoot tub, the upstairs guest bathroom a shower, and the first-floor bathroom features a bespoke shower and vanity. Each of the four bedrooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed.

The house is situated on Camp Hill, which is a ten-minute walk to downtown historic Harpers Ferry and the train station. There is no downside to being so close to the action as even on the busiest of days in town, it remains quiet at the Spy House.

One of the house's former residents was suspected of being a spy for Germany, investigated and arrested by the FBI in 1945, and soon after pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit espionage; hence the name, the Spy House.

For awareness, the property has exterior security cameras that may record the front and rear doors to assist with remote check-in and monitoring of the property between guests. There are no fires permitted in the wood stove pictured in the living room or anywhere outdoors on the property. The upstairs bathrooms have a step down into them.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my house. I am a photographer and a home renovation geek. I bought this house which was a diamond in the rough. To make the space consistent with the way people now live, I opened up the first floor to make for a very social and inviting space. I have put countless hours of sweat equity into the house to make it what it is today. Please be respectful as it is more than just a typical rental property.

Why they chose this property

A friend who lives in town introduced me to Harpers Ferry about twenty years ago. There are amazing hiking trails, swimming spots, fishing holes, vegetable stands, flea markets, antique shops and civil war sites. This is a wonderful, beautiful and peaceful community.

What makes this property unique

The house is located in the historic part of town know as Camp Hill. It is walking distance to the shops and sites of lower town as well as the train station. even on the busiest of summer days in town it stays quiet up here. you can sit out on the front porch in the swing and read a book, listen to the wind chimes and enjoy a cold drink.
