Family-friendly, thoughtfully modernized, historic home in Harpers Ferry.
The Spy House is rich with history and has been lovingly updated by Its owner. It was built in the 1880s in the Federal style and has been adapted for modern living with an open-concept living room and kitchen.
Any cook will feel at home in the well-appointed eat-in kitchen. You can enjoy a relaxing meal around the large handmade farm table. You will find a heavy-duty gas stove, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.
The home features three bathrooms. The primary bathroom features a vintage clawfoot tub, the upstairs guest bathroom a shower, and the first-floor bathroom features a bespoke shower and vanity. Each of the four bedrooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed.
The house is situated on Camp Hill, which is a ten-minute walk to downtown historic Harpers Ferry and the train station. There is no downside to being so close to the action as even on the busiest of days in town, it remains quiet at the Spy House.
One of the house's former residents was suspected of being a spy for Germany, investigated and arrested by the FBI in 1945, and soon after pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit espionage; hence the name, the Spy House.

Great location, convenient parking right in front of the house. Easy walking down the hill to the rivers and trails as well as restaurants and shops. House is clean, organized and thoughtfully stocked for kitchen and bathroom use. It’s comfortable and a great getaway. Absolutely no complaints- we enjoyed our stay very much!!
Our stay was wonderful! The house was beautifully restored and decorated, very clean and had everything needed for a comfortable and memorable stay. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed for meal prep and eating in. Loved, loved, loved the location! Quiet, street with a a beautiful backyard and so close the the center of town. We found multiple paths to explore nearby. Our favorite spot in town was the Battle Grounds Coffee Shop. We took advantage of the availability of historic sites, quaint shops and recreation all so close by. Highly recommend!
Had a great stay at Jay's Spy House. Super location and nicely modernized house in the very heart of Harper's Ferry historic district. Jay was very attentive to anything we needed, which turned out to be very little, since everything was provided. Definitely recommend at stay here if visiting HF.
Everything about this place was excellent. The host was responsive and accommodating. The house was very nice, clean, and roomy, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The yard, location, and parking were big plusses too.
The Spy House was a wonderful stop on our bicycle trip from Pittsburgh to DC. It was close to restaurants and shopping, and was sparkling clean and beautifully decorated.
The house was comfortable and clean. Location was as described, close to hiking trails and town. Questions to our host Jay were answered promptly. We enjoyed our stay.
We had a fantastic stay! Home is beautiful, updated but still had so much historic charm. The location is within walking distance to Historic Harpers Ferry which we loved. Jay was great to deal with, quick to respond to any message. We can’t wait to come back next year.
Great little house for a family gathering, well stocked, and a short (but steep!) walk into the historic district. Great hiking without moving the car on the C&O.
We had a great stay at the Spy House for our family reunion in Harper’s Ferry. The location was perfect and the house was exactly as advertised. The owner was communicative and accommodating. We will hopefully return soon!
The home is located in a quiet neighborhood close to AT trail and can walk into town. House has a well-equipped kitchen, was very clean and cozy for 4 adults providing comfortable gathering in sitting areas as well as private spaces for each. Easy and quick communication with host. Absolutely lovely stay! Thanks Jay.
We had the best time at Jay's place in Harpers Ferry. The house was great, check in was easy. We had 4 kids - ages 1 - 5 and the property was really kid friendly, with a nice backyard and space for playing in the house. The bedrooms were spacious and the whole house was clean and stocked. The location was AMAZING. We could walk everywhere in town; parks, coffee shops, restaurants, historic sites, etc. Definitely recommend!
We could not have found a better place for three childhood friends to reunite! The home has everything you need and Jay is extremely responsive. A true home away from hom. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and are already making plans to come back in the fall.
Great property in an amazing location. Really enjoyed the stay.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my house. I am a photographer and a home renovation geek. I bought this house which was a diamond in the rough. To make the space consistent with the way people now live, I opened up the first floor to make for a very social and inviting space. I have put countless hours of sweat equity into the house to make it what it is today. Please be respectful as it is more than just a typical rental property.
Why they chose this property
A friend who lives in town introduced me to Harpers Ferry about twenty years ago. There are amazing hiking trails, swimming spots, fishing holes, vegetable stands, flea markets, antique shops and civil war sites. This is a wonderful, beautiful and peaceful community.
What makes this property unique
The house is located in the historic part of town know as Camp Hill. It is walking distance to the shops and sites of lower town as well as the train station. even on the busiest of summer days in town it stays quiet up here. you can sit out on the front porch in the swing and read a book, listen to the wind chimes and enjoy a cold drink.
