The Decanted Chateau; a two minute drive to Downtown Murphys

Welcome to our comfortable home with all the main necessities you'll need. This two bedroom home can comfortably sleep six with a king and queen size bed, plus a queen size sofa sleeper with a memory foam mattress. With kids of our own, we welcome families. The home is located in Douglas Flat, just two minutes from Downtown Murphy's. You can enjoy summer concerts in the park, wine tasting year round, explore caves, or hike among giant redwoods. Fishing, golfing, skiing and more... and you're just 1.5 hours to the Yosemite National Park entrance.

Really nice stay for our family of 6. The house had everything we needed. The kitchen was well-stocked and hosts were easy to get ahold of. We loved that we could bring our dog with us. It was nice to have fun games and also DVDs available. Close to lots of fun areas. Beds were comfortable.

This was our second time staying at The Decanted Chateau. We love being so close to town and the local wineries. The home has everything we need to be comfortable. We sleep so well on the big cozy bed. Our dog loves the big lawn in the backyard. Thank you Jeff & Megan for hosting us again! We will be back soon!

I absolutely loves our stay at this home, it has everything you need. The owners were so kind with my request for changes and updates giving the snow storm they accommodated my stay to the next weekend it was really wonderful I will think always use them whenever I have to stay in this area.

Great spot for a Murphys getaway!

We enjoyed our stay at the Decanted Chateau. The home is very clean and comfortable. We lucked out and had really nice weather in December. So we were able to enjoy some sun in the nice backyard. The neighborhood is very quiet and. We enjoyed being so close to Murphys, but away from the traffic and crowds. Thank you Jeff & Megan!

Comfortable landing spot

The home was clean, comfortable and centrally located for us to head out on day trips, stop for wine tasting, or head into Murphys for a meal. Bringing our dog with us is important and the house was very dog friendly and had a large fully fenced yard. We would happily stay here again!

Good Location, no wifi

Great location for visiting nearby places for hikes etc. Just wish they had internet, would have made it 5 stars. The connection to xfinity mostly doesn't work (there is no actual connectivity on the broadcasted signal which only reaches some areas). Nice selection of DVDs.

Cozy get a way

Our stay here was great. We needed a mini getaway and wanted to introduce our daughter to the snow. We were able to stay here, with our dog as well. It was about a 30 min drive to the snow, and exactly what we were looking for. The home was very child friendly, even for our busy little 1+ year old. Thank you for opening your home to us.

Nice little house for a short stay.

We stayed one night to see a concert at Ironstone. There is no internet so we couldn’t get Uber or Lyft. BUT, the owners found a neighbor who agreed to pick us up after the concert and we found another neighbor willing to get us there. Very nice people - really made our stay memorable 😊. The house was small, but clean and comfortable.

If the backyard was taken care of and there was a working coffee pot, and a top freezer that did not pop open when you closed the refrigerator or walked by or a air conditioner that was spouting maybe a past its prime filter debris or a mound of dead flies I would be giving this home a 4 star.

Enjoyed our stay at the Decanted Chateau!

This house was perfect for our party of 3 people and 2 large dogs. The well equipped kitchen and outdoor gas grill made it easy to prepare and enjoy most meals right here during our 5 night stay. This was especially relaxing after spending the better part of the day waterskiing on nearby Lake New Melones. We also managed to squeeze in a little wine tasting at the nearby wineries and strolled Main Street in Murphy's a couple evenings while enjoying some delicious ice cream from JoMa's Artisan Ice Cream - all within a few minutes drive of the Decanted Chateau. Additionally, the owners were very responsive and accommodating.

2nd time

We stayed here a few years ago, so my review will be similar. The house is about 10 minutes from Angels Camp, and like 15 to New Melones. The house is comfortable and clean. The beds are very comfortable as well! Lots of movies (DVDs under the tv in the living room). The TV in the master does not (that we could find) have a remote so that's a bit of a bummer. You can park a boat in the driveway, if you unhook it from your truck & there is a place in the garage to charge your battery (outlet and run your own cord out the door). The 2nd night we stayed hooked to the truck and parked in front of the house. The neighborhood is.... well in my opinion less than charming. But if you're looking for a place to sleep after a long day fishing, this is it!! It's worth the little drive. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip up that way.

I could tell from the photos that the house was dated and the reviews mentioned that the neighborhood was not well lit and older-/ I was OK with that. However, when we arrived the front yard was overtaken with weeds, there were no steps into the front door, it was one huge step up. The backyard, which was great for our dogs but not for sitting out in the patio table/barbecue area that was listed. It too was overcome with weeds and the table and patio area was a mess—not inviting. The inside as mentioned was dated and looked as though it had not been dusted for a very long time. The hanging chandeliers, above the sink knickknacks were thick with dust and the TV Consol you could write your name on it. The carpet is tired and could be replaced. The oven was not clean the bottom looked as if someone had spilled and it had been baked over. The queen bed mattress sagged in the middle and we rolled towards the center, the king mattress was just OK. They did have games, which was a plus, however the chairs at the kitchen table were very uncomfortable. One positive the bathroom was newly remodeled, but still was not completed—Molding was missing around the doors and no baseboard. There were four towels but, no washcloths and only two hand towels for four adults. The rest of the neighborhood pretty much looks like this house and front yard; so I guess there’s no reason to do any yardwork? Bottom line it’s very unfortunate that the owners or the property managers can ask the amount for this particular VRBO, and actually have a cleaning deposit, that whoever is doing their cleaning is doing a horrible job. This house really has a lot of potential and the fact that it is so close to Murphy’s is a plus for this property. We made the best of it. Note: the homeowners did work with me to reschedule our dates.

The weekend we were engaged, we went wine tasting in Napa. Initially, we laughed at the idea of drinking wine, but quickly enjoyed the quiet moments it gave us as a couple; enjoying a glass with cheese and fruit or sipping on the patio by the fire pit. We've been married 18 years and have three children, all of whom are involved in sports so we're always on the go. Living in El Dorado County, we all feel at home in Murphys. The mild climate and terrain is similar to our own. The Murphys Community park provides a perfect opportunity to enjoy a relaxing picnic with a glass of wine while the kids can splash in the water. Together we have enjoyed many trips to the local caves, Calaveras Big Trees and wineries.

Why they chose this property

When it comes to Murphys, it was love at first sight. The small town has a relaxed atmosphere and the community works together as whole to make everyone feel welcome. The area provides everything from a park for the kids, to wine tasting for the adults. Calaveras Big Trees offers a mild walk through an awe inspiring forest, while Yosemite National Park offers rigorous hikes and rock climbing adventures. Every time we visit, we find something new to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

When we first saw the Sugar Pine house, it felt like home. The original owner had a pride of ownership for it and had maintained the home well. We enjoy the openness from the kitchen, dining and living room to bring our family together, as well as the convenient location and secluded backyard. We hope it provides the same welcoming feeling for you!
