There is an old saying that goes something like “no good deed goes unpunished”. The guest expressed she would like to have the opportunity to check in earlier than the regular 4 pm check in time since she had a long drive to which we accepted immediately. We knew that because of this, the routine pre check-in inspection could not be done, but what could have happened in two weeks the house was not occupied right? The guest expressed all the toilets were dirty and disgusting. What she does not know is that in the State of Florida is very common to have high mineral content in the water, especially minerals like iron and manganese. Why is this important? Because it turns out they may react with the cleaning agents used to sanitize the toilets and over a relatively short time produce a dark discoloration that sometimes even forms a residue and a ring around the water mark. A better explanation can be found by clicking here. The toilets looked dirty but they were not. At least not dirty with dirt or something worse, just with a mineral deposit. The other thing the guest mentioned is that there were dead centipedes and other bugs everywhere. Centipedes are very common in a humid climate like Florida and they come in and hide under carpets or crevices when people leave the doors open. Same for other insects. Naturally after a few days they come out looking for water and food and they die. We do our periodic pest control and after every stay the cleaning company services and cleans the condo. Of course, a quick inspection would have allowed the cleaners to have picked them up. The term “everywhere” is used very loosely when someone is upset, I understand that. However to say the house was covered in dead creepy crawlers is unfair and a bit exaggerated. The expression “looks like nobody has stayed there over a year” is easily said when one is upset, again the reality is that it is unfair and a bit exaggerated. Upon learning of the problem, I immediately contacted the guest, apologized and offered my help should we could do anything to make the guest happy. I indicated there is a closet with cleaning supplies including a vacuum cleaner they could use and offered my help and assistance should they require anything else to satisfy them. They replied “Great, thank you”. The next thing I heard from them was this review. People do not realize how deeply damaging a review like this is. We are not millionaires and it is with great effort and hard work we have a little investment like this condo to offer to people and enjoy ourselves every now and then, and just one single review like this one may totally destroy that. I wish people would think twice before unleashing something like this. I also wish all the others that have left happy and satisfied would have posted an equally passionate, positive review.
